Question Posted Wednesday November 2 2005, 11:42 am

At what age is it appropiate for a person to have sex? Ss we get older the standerds seem to be dropping. I just read a question by a thirteen-year-old asking if she should get on "the pill" if she has had sex. Since when is that what is on a 13-year-olds mind?

[ Answer this question ]

Additional info, added Wednesday November 2 2005, 5:13 pm:
To correct myself I found out that 13-year-old curious about birth control is not even remotely interested in sex. She was just curious about birth control. I jumped to conclusions and I am sorry. Still not sure why she is curious about “the pill” if she in not curious about sex. .

I think when you're old enough to get married is the right time to think about having sex with someone and actually trying to do it. I'm a Christian, and in my religion, I've decided to have sex after I get married, which I believe is what everyone should do. Or at least use protection if you're not married, so you won't have the risk of getting pregnant.

To be perfectly honest, I was a sexual fiend at 13 and prior. In no way do I want to encourage them, but I think the thing to remember is... if they want to do if BADDLY enough.. it WILL be done. That's all there is to it, really (from my own experience, that is) If the parents don't condone such acts in their home, the child will go elsewhere and carry on (just as they would have had they not been interrupted).

It's no secret that being sexually active is a very risky decision. And at 13, I would wish for them to really think hard before they act.

"that 13-year-old curious about birth control is not even remotely interested in sex. She was just curious about birth control."

The fact that she isn't wanting to engage in those activities of the moment, is best, in my opinion. The fact that she is "just curious about birth control", I'd say is great! So, good for her! That WANT to learn that she has is what America needs more of!

Since when is sexual knowledge a crime? I find it very commendable that she happens to have enough brains to educate herself before rushing into a life altering event.

Maybe if everybody thought like a 13 year old, AIDS wouldn't be such an epidemic! ;)

That one may not have been but a lot of them are.

I don't know why. They rush into things so fast. To fast if you ask me. It is scary.

The sad thing is...how many are really 13? Could be younger and lying about thier age. It is sad.

Well I think it's sad whenever people have sex at such a young age. Especially 13. I find that's way too young in my opinion. =/ Sex is something that should be cherised and remembered between two people who are very in love with eachother and feel that they're ready to be responsible and make that decision. But that's the persons decision whenever they want to have sex, not mine. That's just my opinion on the matter. So really there's no appropriate age for when people want to have sex. It's just really whenever the person feels ready to have it. I hope I helped.

MELii

also, less parental involvement.

she probably lied to you.

and also, i think that your virginity is the best gift that you can give to your husband!

Just because statistics show what age most people are having sex, it doesn't mean that if you don't have it by that age that you aren't normal. The only reason why you should have sex is because you love the person and you feel ready. So there really is no appropriate age.

I hope I helped =]

To me, it's really sad that so many young people are having sex. I think that it's a thing to be cerished and shouldn't be had until you are married. It's a expression of love and should be done only by two partners which are married. That's my view on it.

Alot of things have changed and the appropiate time to have sex is when your married. If you are married at 13 i think you have the right to have sex but if your not married then you shouldnt have sex. I do know people that had sex when they were in the sixth grade. Nowadays people are only 13 or 12 who are having sex. The buying of birth control pills is outragious almost everyone i know has the pills. This started about 5 years ago. It is crazy.

GDROB2 answered Wednesday November 2 2005, 1:00 pm:
It is based on maturity and when someone is ready for sex. This decision should be based on having all of the proper information, love, and most of all whether or not a partner is using you for instant gratification.

It is never based on age. I do feel that 13-year-olds do not know what they are doing if sex is something they plan to do. They ought to wait as they are not ready for adult consequences or situations. Unfortunately, we cannot stop them but we can give the information they need so a wrong decision is less likely to be made.

Its not a set age...its when you are ready. When I say ready I mean you don't have any doubts about it in your mind. As soon as you hit puberty your hormones start going crazy. (to answer your question about the thirteen year old) Remember, sex should be about love--you should be involved with someone for awhile before you start.
However, I don't think any thirteen year old is old enough to make that decision.
