Do you think this is dumb?

Question Posted Sunday October 16 2005, 2:07 pm

My boyfriend and I have been dating 3 months. We both have decided that we're not going to throw around the word 'love'. Seeing as most 14 year old couples do. So this is what we do..

When we do say i love you, we agreed we should only say it when we feel the moment is suitable, but we both know that when we say it we mean 'like is too small of a word, but love might be too strong of a word'

Other times we just say like 'I like you a whole lot', but we both know it's not just a normal 'crush' kinda of like.
Do you understand what I mean?

Does anyone think this is a stupid way of going about things?

No way. I think this is good that you're waiting to say the world love, and it's nice how you chose to say it.

NO i do not think it is a stupid way of puting your relationship. It seems like you two have very strong feelings for eachother but not strong enough to use the word love, only at appropreate times . I deffinatley get it. You guys handle your relationship very well. Hope it goes well between you two . Don't feel like you need to be like most normal 14 year old couples. Your relationship is held in a unique way.Thats good . Well good luck !

I had a long talk with a friend about this yesterday, so I figured I might as well throw in my two cents.

I think the word "love" has a definition that's unique to each human being that experiences this feeling, or something like it. People who use love endlessly like it's worth two bucks might very well be in "love", only their own definition of it. There shouldn't be any pressure on either of you for telling each other how much you appreciate one another.

As long as you and your boyfriend are conscious of how you each feel towards each other and the (non)usage of the word, I don't see what's stupid about it.

No, it's not stupid. Saying "like" seems like it's too small, and "love" sounds too serious, right? I totally agree. I think there needs to be a different word, for in between. Maybe you can make one up =) like "loke", or something. Although, there are different kinds of love. Maybe you can say the word "love", but both of you know that you don't mean "married couple"love, you just mean "deep affection for someone you have only been seeing for 3 months" love. Or not. I don't think it's stupid and even if I did, it's up to you in the end. =) =)

I applaud you on your rationality. You understand that what you are feeling is strong, yet you don't want to rush into love if your not ready. Bravo. You are not dumb, and if fact you are quite the opposite when it comes to this question. Being someone who has still never said "I love you" to any guy I have ever dated, I should know how to avoid that word. Try I adore you. That says alot with out saying it all.

I answered it by saying "You do and say what comes from youre heart> not your head"!! Why do you feel the need to ask people if saying this or saying that is stupid? Its your relationship!!
Its between you and youre bf! If you wanna say "i love you", or "i like you alot" to each other, thats your business! You sound very insecure if you need to take a poll on that kind of question! Are you saying it in public, and people are commenting on it or what? Whats said in the privacy of you 2, shouldnt even concern the rest of us! That is what im trying to tell you!!
