Do you think if I cut out all sodas would I lose about 5-7 lbs in 2 weeks? I usually drink about 1-2 sodas a day, but I am not overweight or anything I am 5'5 and 110 lbs. I would just like to lose about 5 lbs or so. Also I hear people say to even cut diet soda out? I thought diet soda was okay to drink b/c it has no calories, how could I benefit from not drinking diet either?
strange_ursula answered Friday October 7 2005, 6:36 pm: Giving up sodas is an excellent idea, however I doubt that you will be able to loose 5-7 Ibs.
Soda tends to have the effect of bloating (as does excess salt), so they effects of cutting out soda should be fairly immediate though they will not be particuarly noticeable.
Though diet and 'light' drinks have very low/no calories, they often have high levels of sugar derivatives and sweetners in which are damaging to your health. All sodas and fizzy drinks contain huge amounts of e-numbers, preservatives and additives. You would probably feel an all round benefit from cutting these out of your diet.
However, if you are looking to loose weight then cutting sodas out of your diet will do very little good.
I hope this was useful to you,

SouthernGirl323 answered Thursday October 6 2005, 9:25 pm: diet sodas cut calories, but they have an ingredient that make you retain sugars or something so it actually stimulates weight gain. its just diet soda because it has a sugar substitute instead of sugar. im not sure if you could loose 5-7 in 2 weeks, but you would def. loose weight by cutting out sodas and also alot of juices. stick to water, specially with lemon juice in it. (the lemon juice will speed up your metabolism) good luck. :) [ SouthernGirl323's advice column | Ask SouthernGirl323 A Question ]

xXxpinky615xXx answered Thursday October 6 2005, 5:27 pm: First of all, you don't need to lose weight, so get that thought out of your head. You are under weight by a pound anyway. And even if you DID gain that pound, you'd still be dangerously close to being underweight.
Diet soda doesn't do jack squat. It tastes disgusting, and isn't healthy for you. Calories don't mean anything. What you have to watch out for is FAT. Calories.. really they mean nothing.
Keep drinking your soda. Nothing is wrong with soda. But seriously, you must be CRAZY to think about losing 5-7 pounds. You think being 5'5" and 103 pounds with your ribs sticking out is attractive??? If anything you should gain a few pounds. If you look at this site: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
Type in your height and your weight. Then look at the chart. You are currently an 18.3. In order to be in the normal zone, you need to be 18.5. Even at 18.5, you are still INSANELY skinny.
So, while at that site, type in 105 pounds and 103 pounds. See what shows up. You would be 17.1 at 103 pounds and 17.5 at 105 pounds. Still, dangerously underweight.

LadyGoodman answered Thursday October 6 2005, 4:43 pm: Umm... it's kind of scary that you want to lose weight. 110 is pretty skinny for your height. I don't mean to lecture here and be not helpful, but you should really think about that. [ LadyGoodman's advice column | Ask LadyGoodman A Question ]
tasuki answered Thursday October 6 2005, 4:33 pm: Soda does not really add to your weight. Well, I think the regular kind does but I really don't think diet soda does anything. Only if all you do is sit and drink soda. So if you want to lose weight, cutting soda probably would not help. However, you should drink about eight big glasses of water a day--this WILL help you lose weight, and if you're drinking that much water you may not really want to drink soda because then you'd be going to the bathroom all day! But it is a good idea to cut down on soda anyway, I am trying to myself but my mother keeps buying it for me. It has a chemical in it that actually takes calcium out of your bones and makes your bones weak, and this can and does develop into a very serious condition.
xomegaroni answered Thursday October 6 2005, 2:51 pm: soda can really help. it has a lot of unwanted fats that you really don't need, but soda is really addicting. diet soda is actually worse for you than regular soda is. idk the whole story, but if you juss cut out soda totally you'll lose lbs. idk how many exactly. if you want other ways of losing weight, you can juss feedback me.
