well... i am 13 and i weigh 176 pounds... this really takes a toll on my social life ... especially with guys... i really really really want to lose at least 20 pounds ((to begin with)) asap... but i dont want to go on a major diet... does anyone know a good plan for me?
A few good activities that can simply assist in porportioning the body in it's ENTIRTY would be anything that gets the blood circulation goin', such as: jogging, jumping jacks, jumping rope, walking, and bicycle riding. Also, if you have access to a heated pool, water aerobics work like a charm!!
And if you'd like to target your tummie specifically, try doing a couple hundred sit ups or crunches. I know, I know, I know.. "a couple hundred' SEEMS like a lot, but if you break it up into sessions, it's not that difficult, really.
To tone your butt and thighs, do leg lifts. To do these, stand up straight, and slowly move your leg -ONLY YOUR LEG- backwards. Like, say you're going to kick something, but kick BARKWARDS, and DON'T BEND YOUR KNEES!! Make sense???
To tone your arms, take two dum bells [whatever weight works for you]. Put one in each arm, and stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. Bring the dum bells up to your chest with your elbows folded out [like Tarzan pounding his chest-sort of motion, ya know?] Then at a MEDIUM speed... extend your arms out to the side, and slowly bring them back in. You can do two at a time to help balance the strength build up and toning, or do one at a time if it's easier. THIS DOES CUH-RRRRAZZIIEEEEEEE AMOUNTS OF MIRCALE!!!!!!!!!! If you do it for at least 20 minutes a day you'll see a GIGANTIC difference in a week, TOPS. I do them all the time; it's fun!!
Also, providing you cut out the EXTREMELY unhealthy foods, such as WHITE bRead [substitute it with wheat], cake products, ice cream, hamburgers, and soda... [if you're used to consuming A LOT of it] you can see a significant amount of weight loss after the first two weeks, alone.
As you probably already know, it's best to eat several small portions a day; but this does not mean to "starve" yourself (as someone said below! :[). Say, have an apple and a piece of cheese, two hours later have a few crakers, and an hour later have one piece of wheat toast, and so on and so forth, ya know??? And those are just some snack ideas. When it comes to solid meals, you don't really have to cut out much. Just take in moderation. Little intakes of food like that gives your body time to digest it properly. You see how that's better than eating one or two huge meals a day?? Because then it would take too long to catch up, and your bodyy will not be able to burn the calories quickly enough; so it just quits, adding body fat.
Of course you must realize that weight loss takes time. I can't really say how long it will take; I suppose that differs from person to person. It really just depends on how much weight you're looking to shed. I'd say you could lose 10 to 20 pounds within the first month; that's very possible (seeing as how a good portion of that 10-20 pounds will be water weight).
You just have to stay committed, and strive to keep up the drive. Some tips: just try to keep yourself busy, and sleep as often as possible. Those things keep your mind off of food.
Sure it seems like you're giving up so much, but think about what you will be gaining if you feel better about yourself?? That's the best damned grand prize you'll EVER find.
Goodluck to you! Feel free to get ahold of me personally if you'd like any other information or opinions! I'd be happie to help where I can! :D [ Mackenzie's advice column | Ask Mackenzie A Question ]
tangerine answered Wednesday October 5 2005, 8:31 am: Hey,
First off, someone said starving yourself is the way to go, DONT DO THIS. REason being is it slows down your metabolism and later on you get really hungry, so you gain back all the weight anyway.
To lose weight, you need to halve your calorie intake and double your excersize. If you do this you'll lose approximately 1-2 lbs a week. It doesn't sound like much, but it does help in the long run. Search google for some diet plans, there are some good ones that are not *that* extreme.
You need to be really really driven to accomplish something like this. How much are you willing to put yourself through? Focus on your goal, and in the meantime wear flattering clothes and focus on positive aspects to feel good about yourself, okay?
xxBrOkEnxx answered Tuesday October 4 2005, 5:03 pm: i know you said asap but if you lose wight at a slow pase your more likely to not gain it back again. you have to motivate yourself to do things like run or even walk, but you have to push yourself because everyone still ahas something even when they say they dont.drink a lot of water, but you still need all the right nutrients and everything, eat right but still have everything you need.cut down on junk food and if you even sneek one it will lead to many others.just dont go on a crash diet like throwing up because you dont lose weight(you dont throw up all the calories that you ate)and if you dont eat for awhile it slows your metabolism down. i also heard hot sause helps your metabolism, running too.BUT dont over work yourself! EvilCheshire answered Tuesday October 4 2005, 4:03 pm: Just eat less of what you're eating now, that way you can enjoy food and learn that you don't have to eat that much to be full. I'm not saying eat a pea and a piece of meat and that's it.
A good tip is to drink a lot of water before each meal. This way your stomach already feels kind of full.
Try to stay away from anything fried. If you can.. have it baked. Stay away from fast foods and soda too!
Try walking around the block maybe a couple times a week. This will kick in your metabolism, or it at least should.. eventually you can start walking at a faster pace and start burning more calories.
Most of all though, don't care about what other people think or say about you. You're beautiful the way you are and you shouldn't change for anyone.. unless you want to make the changes for yourself. [ EvilCheshire's advice column | Ask EvilCheshire A Question ]
sillyrob answered Tuesday October 4 2005, 3:21 pm: Well, unless you're going to throw up or not eat, be prepared for a major diet and exercise. That is the BEST way to do it. [ sillyrob's advice column | Ask sillyrob A Question ]
advicegodesses2 answered Tuesday October 4 2005, 2:12 pm: Hey,
Don't eat any junk food and only eat meat, fruit, and vegetables and water.
feversandmirrors answered Tuesday October 4 2005, 1:33 pm: Drink a lot of water and cut back on the sodas. Water does great for your body! And when you eat, still eat 3 meals a day, just don't eat AS much each time. I used to eat until I was stuffed (because I love eating!) but now I've gotten to the habit where I eat until I'm satisfied. Meaning, I don't have that stuffed feeling, but I'm not hungry anymore. I went to the gym for 3 months last year, and I still ate junk food and lost weight. So excersize is important, and you don't always necessarily have to go on a diet (although it helps)...
You can start running at night, or doing some excersizes in your room. Do crunches. Maybe get some ideas out of a magazine at the store with excersizes you can do. If you're allowed to join a gym, do that. It definately helps.
LaydeeAki answered Tuesday October 4 2005, 12:17 pm: Hey there!, I'm 14. 156 pounds! Can you believe it? well of course you can. Duh. That's not a problem. What's wrong with being fat? or a little plump? I rather be fat than skinny ANY DAY. The thing is, you don't wanna be overweight... NOR Underweight. Don't try to starve urself or get TOO skinny. You don't have to make yourself look good for guys. Because, if a guy notices you for the personality behind the looks, he's a keeper! If you want to diet, but not a major " starve yourself" diet. I suggest, chicken, fish, turkey on weekdays. On the weekends, Try going for beef and pork. One day out of the week, don't eat any meat at all. Just vegetables. I Lost 10 pounds in 1 month eating like this everyday. Yogurt & fruit really hits the spot. Riding your bike, running around outside or playign jump rope with your friends also works. I loved soccer, so I started playing soccer more, works the body, burned my calories which caused fat. The thing is, I stopped the diet and went back to my normal fat weight. If you want to, you have to be really dedicated to losing that weight. A slip up is fine, maybe like a bag a chips one day. But more than one isn't okay! It really effects that diet badly. If you're hungry, ask yourself " are you eating to live? or are u living to eat?" Water fills u up quickly, try drinking lots of it, and plus it also helps the body also. Hope I was of some help!
