Crunches=Pain

Question Posted Sunday October 2 2005, 12:44 am

Today I did crunches and it really hurt my neck. I think that is a sign that I did it wrong...or is that normal? I've recently started working out, like really recently (this was only my 7th time) and I was wondering is it because I'm getting used to it now, is it because I'm doing it wrong or something? I did 70, btw.

Well, when I first started working out and doing crunches, my neck hurt a lot, too! But once you start doing crunches more regularly, your body adjusts and your neck doesn't hurt anymore. It's really hard to explain! Try using your ABS more and not straining your NECK.

Good luck and tell me if you need more advice! =)

An easy way to not hurt your neck is to put your hands behind your head the trick is dont lift your self up with your arms because thats not doing anything for your abs if your neck still hurts after using that technique you should see a doctor

You must be doing something wrong. You are probably curling your neck in rather than crunching straight up. Try this: When doing cruches, pick a spot on the ceiling and don't take your eyes off it. That prevents you from curling your neck. This should help! :-)

You're doing the wrong. Use your hands to support your neck but keep your elbows parallel to the floor. Looking straight up helps too. Don't do so many at once.

i dont think that crunches are good and i dont think that you should to them. i mean, you need to run or do something besides crunches. they just cause you more pain. they arent good for you and they never helped me. i was just in pain all the time. dont worry about rating me. im just here to help. and i hope i did.

I'm NOT a fitness expert, but you should start slower with your exercises, you could really hurt yourself. I'd say slide back to about 20-30, and let your body get used to that, instead of being already up at 70 so soon.
