My mom doesn't want me to have suade sneakers. She thinks they'll get ruined in the rain. Do they? If they do does they water proofing spray really work? Is there anyway I can convince my mom to let me get them? Thank you.

To proove it to her tell her that if you buy skater shoes it is specially designed to handle skater abuse, but if that doesnt work out research it... you could always get a nice pair of shoes that arent suede... some companies make shoes in 2 diff. materials! devilspawn_666 answered Tuesday August 16 2005, 7:22 pm: Suede shoes won't get ruined in the rain unless you go around totally submersing your shoes in giant puddles on a regular basis. Since I don't think you plan on doing that, there's no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to have them. I've had a pair of Vans for about a year and a half and they've held up better than any pair of shoes I've ever had. They're dark blue suede and they still look almost as good as when I first bought them. Try getting some skateboarding shoes. They're made really well to be able to put up with the abuse that skaters ususally inflict on them, so therefore these brands are really great shoes. You might have to pay a little more for them, but it's definatly worth the money. [ devilspawn_666's advice column | Ask devilspawn_666 A Question ]
Saynotogymclass answered Tuesday August 16 2005, 7:18 pm: Suede shoes are horrible!! Your mom is right. I had them and they were gross in less than month. I have never heard of waterproofing spray, but it might me worth the risk if you really want suede shoes that won't look bad. [ Saynotogymclass's advice column | Ask Saynotogymclass A Question ]
MyHappyShoe answered Tuesday August 16 2005, 6:13 pm: ok you can go to Foot Locker and buy a can of BOOT SPRAY it's in a silver can and has a green top on it. I use it on ALL my shoes, even suade, and it works wonders... the water just rolls right off... the spray MIGHT darken the suade a tad bit but it works really well. At first they were totally cute, and I really liked them, but when it rained and they got dirty, they got really black, and there's not you can really use to get rid of the dirt, even putting them in the washer. If I were you I would choose a different shoe, just because suade IS crappy. [ naimee's advice column | Ask naimee A Question ]
azngemini answered Tuesday August 16 2005, 12:46 pm: i used to have a pair of suade shoes from sketchers.. they were pretty crappy... lol. at first they felt really nice and soft, but after i wore it for a few months, the suade material started feeling rough and hard. i havent bought another pair of suade shoes ever since. the water-proof spray probably works, i've never used it before, but the saleslady at the shoe store showed me how well they worked. all you have to do is show your mom that the waterproof spray really works. just spray some of it on a paper towel, let it dry for a minute or less, and then pour some water on it. the water will just run off the spot that was sprayed
