hello...
im 13/f and my friend was over at my house today and i showed her this site and she wanted an advice column. i told her that she was to young (shes 11) and she got really mad. so my question is:
why doesnt this site allow anyone under 13 to be a columnist?
shutupnkissme98 answered Monday August 15 2005, 11:54 am: prolly cuz you can talk about anything on here and alot of things wouldnt be apropriate for sum 11 year olds.or at least most 11 year olds parents wouldnt think so.

In my opinion she shouldn't have an advice column until she is older. But she should not just 4get about giving advice, maybe when she is older, she will help a lot of people!Hope i helped!
MELiixMARiiE answered Saturday August 13 2005, 2:32 pm: Well advicenators probably thinks," Well probably most of the questions on this site are going to be from 13 year olds and older ( which it mostly is ) and stuff like sex and drugs and suicide which a 13 year old or older might relate a little better to than an 11 year old might because she might not have as much/nor any experience in those kinda fields as a teenager would. Because she's not even in Jr.High yet, so she hasn't begun to feel the pressures of dating, sex, drinking, etc. I don't know ; that probably is it. To make her feel better, have her help you out with problems and such. It'll be both of your site! My friend helps me all the time with problems. =) I hope I helped!!
mystical_breeze answered Friday August 12 2005, 9:27 pm: The people who check this site won't let 11 year olds probably because people ask sex questions and a lot of 11 year olds don't want to learn about sex and it might scare them at first (it scared me when I learned about it when I was 10) so I guess that's why.
It sucks though that people have to have all these innapropiate things in their lives if they're like 14 years old with sex and everything.. kids shouldn't have sex and it's disgusting.

This isn't because we hate 12 year olds, it's because the Federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, or COPPA, puts a great deal of restrictions on information we can ask children under 13. When you registered on this site, you were required to check a box that says, "I am at least 13" and if you lied on that box, you are not eligible for membership." << From the FAQ
Aside from that, younger kids don't give as good advice as older people. Not only that, but perhaps the 10, 11, and 12 year olds shouldn't know as much as the 13, 14, 15 etc. year olds should know? There are alot of sexually based questions on this site, and I have an almost 11 year old sister. She only recently found out "about babies." She doesn't need to know about the other things (oral sex etc.). She's just too little. Same for the other kids. I know that now in public schools, you learn about puberty and sex early, but do those kids need to be exposed to things that would make them think it's okay to have sex at eleven? Or make them ask more questions? We don't need a bunch of eleven year olds with STDs. Though we're only a little older, we have a job to protect the younger people from things such as STDs, HIV, and AIDS. There are enough people with those things already.
RicanSpice14 answered Friday August 12 2005, 7:32 pm: Because kids at a younger age dont give as good answers as 13 year olds cuz we are mature and they might end up saying somthing thats really bad and IMATURE. [ RicanSpice14's advice column | Ask RicanSpice14 A Question ]

SoInToYoUx0x answered Friday August 12 2005, 6:49 pm: it is because already a lot of kids at a young age know about a lot of stuff they shouldnt noe about and on this site there are some sexual questions and answers that arent meant for people that age to be learning about. Karen answered Friday August 12 2005, 6:45 pm: In the FAQ section of this site, it'll explain the reason of why you have to be at least thirteen years old to register. It has to do with the Federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
xomegaroni answered Friday August 12 2005, 6:38 pm: basically its because theres some "sex" questions on here, so they thought being a teen would fit, rather than a preteen er anyone under age i guess.
