lump on my boob...

Question Posted Tuesday August 9 2005, 8:19 pm

Hi. Iam 15 and i have a lump on my boob. I just noticed it today.. I'm pretty sure it just appeared today. I don't know what it could be. I mean, girls my age don't usually get breast cancer. I know it's possible, but i guess it could also be beningn. My mom told me that she had a benign lump about 12 years ago. Hm, maybe it's that? I haven't told her about it, though.
Please help, what do you think it is? What should i do?
thanks

Yes. Girls your age usually tend not to get it but my best friend actually just went in for surgery to get a lump removed from her breast. It is a serious thing, and you should tell your mother. My friends, fortunately, wasnt breast cancer, it was a benign tumor. Not cancerous at all. But you should tell her as soon as possible, in case it turns into something else, or in case it is infact cancerous. Its the safest and best thing to do.

Since you do have a history of breast lumps, it would be best to have it checked out by a doctor just to be sure. Most of the time, it is benign and some even go away on their own, but it's best to be safe.

if your mother had it, it might be hereditary

You're best bet is to go see a doctor, especially since you know that your mom has a lump. Odds are, it's the same thing that your mom has. Also, there is this thing called "normal abnormal" which means that you find something that's not really supposed to be there, or that doesn't look right (abnormal), but it's totally harmless (normal). Most things like what you found are harmless. However, you should always see a doctor just to be sure.

Well, is the lump like SKIN or is it sort of blistery? If it's sort of like a blister, it could be a cyst. Here's what you should do.

1)Tell your mom about it and have her look at it
2)Go to the doctor and have them look at it.

That way, you'll know for sure what it is instead of having people on here giving you an answer that isn't exact. For all we know it could be a tumor and it COULD possibly be breast cancer. You won't know for sure unless you go to the doctor. I'm not saying that it IS a tumor, but you really should go to the doctor.
