I'm trying to lose some weight, and I haven't noticed any results. I havent been eating much and I've been exercising everyday for a while now. Is there any way to increase my metabolism? Good diets? Exercises? Anything helpful! Thanks~~~ :D
oxshortstufffxo answered Saturday July 23 2005, 5:10 pm: two ways to diet:
eat only 3 large meals a day or eat several small meals a day, whatever works for you. just remember you do need some sugar in your body to work out. swimming is the best way to speed up metablism [ oxshortstufffxo's advice column | Ask oxshortstufffxo A Question ]
karenR answered Friday July 22 2005, 9:00 am: Yes there is actually. Eat 3 meals a day. Don't skip any. Don't eat like its your last meal but don't skip meals. Not eating will actually lower your metabolism. Your body thinks it is starving and will start storing the fat. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
Mackenzie answered Friday July 22 2005, 6:15 am: We'll staRt out with the obvious: exeRcises. A few good activities that can simply assist in poRpoRtioning the body in it's ENTIRTY would be anything that gets the blood ciRculation goin', such as jogging, jumping jacks, jumping Rope, and walking, and bicycle walking. Also, 'tis the season of wateR aeRobics, and they will woRk like a CHARM!!
And if you'd like to taRget youR tummie specifically, tRy doing a couple hundRed sit ups oR cRunches. I know, I know, I know.. 'a couple hundRed' is A LOT, but if you bReak it up into sessions, it's not that difficult, tRust me. I'm the Queen of lazy fuckeRs, so if I can do this, YOU can do this! :P
And to tone youR ass and thighs, do leg lifts. To do these, stand up stRaight, and slowly move youR leg -ONLY YOUR LEG- backwaRds. Like, say you'Re going to kick something, but kick BARKWARDS, and DON'T BEND YOUR KNEES!! Make sense???
To tone youR arms, take two dum bells [whicheveR weight woRks foR you.. even if 3 pounds]. Put one in each aRm, and stand up stRaight with youR feet shouldeR-width apaRt. BRing the dum bells up to youR chest with youR elbows folded out [like TaRzan pounding his chest-soRt of motion, ya know?] Then at a MEDIUM speed... extend youR aRms out to the side, and slowly bRing them back in. You can do two at a time to help balance the stRength build up and toning, oR do one at a time if it's easieR. THIS DOES CUH-RRRRAZZIIEEEEEEE AMOUNTS OF MIRCALE!!!!!!!!!! If you do it foR at least 20 minutes a day you'll see a GIGANTIC diffeRence in a week TOPS. I do them all the time; it's fun!!
Also, pRoviding you cut out the EXTREMELY unhealthy foods, such as WHITE bRead [substitute it with wheat], cake pRoducts, ice cReam, hambuRgeRs, and soda... [if you'Re used to consuming A LOT of it] you can see a MAJOR diffeRence the fiRst two weeks, ALONE. My fRiend did it.. and we weRe both shocked to all hell!
As you pRobably alReady know, it's best to eat SEVERAL SMALL poRtions a day. Say, have an apple and a piece of cheese, two houRs lateR have a few cRakeRs, and an houR lateR have one piece of wheat toast, and so on and so foRth, ya know??? Little intakes of food like that givs youR body time to digest it pRopeRly. You see how that's betteR than eating one oR two huge meals a day... because it takes too long to catch up, and it can not buRn the caloRies quick enough, and then just quits, adding body fat.
But of couRse weight loss takes time.... you just have to stay committed, and have the dRive to keep it up. TRy to keep youRself busy... and sleep as often as possible... these things keep youR mind busy and off food. I can't Really say how long it will take; I suppose that diffeRs fRom peRson to peRson. It Really just depends on how much weight you'Re looking to shed. I'd say you could lose 10 to 20 pounds in a month; that's veRy possible.....
Goodluck to you though!! Hopefully I've been of some assistance heRe!!
Dr_Joseph answered Friday July 22 2005, 5:48 am: The best way to increase your metabolism is to eat between 5-7 small meals a day. Not snacks, but controlled meals.
This way your body will start to burn fat at a quicker rate and not store as much carbs.
soccurboi48 answered Thursday July 21 2005, 8:18 pm: Well my brother is playing in the world series right now..and we have been at the baseball fields everyday for about like 6 days...and all of the parents have lost weight from sweating soo much...but if you try this make sure you drink plenty of water to decrease the chance of dehydrating...! And i think the most efficient diet is the carb-diet...!

Well, first off, define your way of eating healthy and exercising. In order to really burn that fat, you have to include cardio exercises into your routine which are exercises that get your heart rate up (running, jogging, jumping jacks, aerobics, tai bo, etc.). If you already include this in your routine, combine it with a variety of toning exercises as well. You should be exercising at least three times a week, with sessions that last up to AT LEAST a half an hour. If you want more results, exercise longer. Also, give yourself rest time in between workouts for better effect. Because if you workout everyday and don't give a chance for your body to rest, the workouts won't be as effective.
Now, for your eating habits, I'm trusting your word on this. If you want a boost, drink herbal green tea. If you don't like the taste, add Splenda for a no calorie sweetener. Green tea helps boost your metabolism.

lilecky92 answered Thursday July 21 2005, 12:46 pm: Well I think it is good you are tyring to lose weight but not eating isnt the answer! Doing that will just slow down your metabolism.
Also exercising every day is bad for you. You should only exercise every other day. Your musels need time to relax after you work out. A good diet to go on is the South Beach Diet it works really well! Good luck! I hope I helped you some! [ lilecky92's advice column | Ask lilecky92 A Question ]
xoredsoxnation9 answered Thursday July 21 2005, 12:23 pm: The thing about eating healthy is, you dont have to give it all up, just control your portion sizes. It's important to eat a good breakfast, cus yu burn the most calories early in the day. To get your metabolism to work faster, drink water right before a meal, thats what my doctor says works good.
As far as excersizing, crunches work great. Do like 100 a day, front and side crunches. Do them in like sets of 10, that way you dont get too tired. Walk or run a mile everyday. Dont feel like you have to jog, walking works the exact same day. Also, you can get little 3 lb. or 5 lb. weights and use them. How you use them is like this: take your arm and put it so that your elbow is sticking straight up. Then take the weight and lift it, so that yur whole arm is straight up. Do that on each arm, about 20 times. Yu will be sore the next day, but thats good, yu know it had an effect.
Just stay focused, and feeling a difference is more important than seeing one, yu just need to feel good and healhy. I hope i helped !!! =)
M3GHANBUCHERvllybll answered Thursday July 21 2005, 12:23 pm: theres a diet that most of the celebs "supposedly" use. if you eat only 85 bites of food a day. i don't know how it works but i've heard it's okay. also just cut out the sodas and drink more water, milk, etc. if you can't stand plain water (like me) drink some fruit-2-o's or something. Instead of reaching for some chips or cookies grab some veggies or fruits. hope i helped
sourpatchkids379 answered Thursday July 21 2005, 12:19 pm: well it will take a while to see results especailly when you are just starting out... now about your eating habits you say you arent eating alot but when you are eating what are you eating? if you are eating foods with alot of calories or sugar then you could be just keeping yourself were you are. Try to cut down on the sugars and eat more vegtables fruits ECT.
The Metabolism Formula
The winning formula to maintain your weight is that what you take in should equal the calories you expend...
CALORIES TAKEN IN FROM FOOD =
CALORIES EXPENDED FROM BASAL METABOLISM +
CALORIES EXPENDED BY ACTIVITY +
CALORIES EXPENDED DIGESTING FOOD (THERMIC EFFECT)
To lose weight, you have to reduce calories taken in, increase calories expended, or do both.
Metabolism is somewhat a function of genetics, but you can increase basal metabolism by building muscle. Muscle cells are up to eight times more metabolically active than fat cells, and muscle burns more calories than fat. Adding weight-bearing or resistance exercise – such as weightlifting or exercise bands -- is one of the only ways to increase basal metabolism.
An efficient metabolism also requires the smooth running of many complex body processes that rely on sufficient antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin C and the B vitamins. Supplements to correct any deficiencies are therefore important.
Finally, dehydration can contribute to an inefficient metabolism, by affecting body temperature. When you are dehydrated, your body temperature drops slightly, and causes your body to store fat as a way to help raise or maintain the temperature. Making sure you drink enough liquids, preferably at least 64 ounces of water per day, to avoid this metabolic pitfall.
mushoku answered Thursday July 21 2005, 12:16 pm: Eating too little won't do a whole lot, really, except deprive you of the nutrients you need for your metabolism to do its thing.
The rest is quoted from one of my previous responses, so ignore the parts that don't apply to you:
"Drink water. No soda, only 1 cup of 100% juice per day (and no roll-overs - if you don't have one on one day, you don't get 2 the next), and try to not eat very many carbs (rice, potatoes, carrots, sauces, sugar, grains, et cetera). For bread, keep away from white and only have some that looks at least "tanned" (whole grain, wheat, et cetera). Meat, green vegetables, and water are your friends; other vegetables, fruits, and milk your buddies; grains and juices your acquaintances; and munchies, sodas, and juice drinks your enemies.
A person should drink half their body weight (measured in pounds) in fluid ounces of water per day. Less water than this reduces your metabolism. More than this won't increase it, but, as long as it's not terribly more, won't be unhealthy. What that means is that you take your weight and divide it by 16, and that's how many fluid measured cups of water you should drink per day. I don't know how milk and juice effect this amount, but you shouldn't be drinking more than 2 cups milk or 1 cup juice a day anyway.
When there's the option of walking or biking vs driving, try to do the former rather than the latter. If you do a lot of watching TV, try to get up and be busy during commercials, or pause the movie every 15 minutes or so and walk around.
Do not purge - this will do tragic things to your body's chemistry, not to mention throw your health right out the window. Good looks are not worth sacrificing your health - a healthy woman is far more attractive than one who is annorexic.
Beyond that, about 1-2 hours per day of just walking or jogging or whatever should help. Just make sure that you don't count anything that's less than about 30 minutes - 15 minutes excersize does almost nothing. 30 minutes excersize twice does less than an hour excersize, but only very little. Although, there are those who argue (including myself) that 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening is better for your metabolism than 1 hour at either." Karen answered Thursday July 21 2005, 12:00 pm: It takes a while to see results when trying to lose weight. There is a way to increase your metabolism and that's by confusing your body; just eat different amounts of foods each day. For instance, tomorrow you can eat 3 normal, healthy meals and the next day, you can eat 5 smaller, healthy meals and repeat the 'pattern'. You can try low carbing but don't do it for too long. As for exercises, cardio activities help a great deal. They include running, jogging, running in place, running in water, jump roping, and any other exercises that pumps you up. You can do exercises that tone a certain part of your body and such. Just eat healthy, watch how much you eat, and exercise daily and your bound to see results soon.
