i get these really bad tension headaches almost every day. they just come on at any time of the day and they're mostly always in my temples or the back of my head. my jaw gets really stiff and clenched up. sometimes they get so bad i have to vomit (which always makes the headache almost immediately go away). are there any sort of special muscle relaxant medications i should take? any relaxation excercises i could do? please help. these headaches interfere with my everyday life. i can hardly function when i have them.

karenR answered Friday July 8 2005, 9:12 am: As a fellow sufferer I can only tell you what I do. I buy those large band aids. I put Capsaicin on them (or any heating type product for muscle pain). I then put them on my problem area. For me this is at the base of my neck/right shoulder.
20 minutes later its gone. And I keep it on. I must warn you that it probably isn't recommended but it is cheaper than those premade things you buy (which work too). It burns like heck but I've gotten used to it. My son who has the same will not do it because he thinks it burns to bad.
I have gotten welts from it before but I'd rather have them than the headache because they don't hurt. So, in the end you can try it if you want...works for me. But, it might give you some burns. A milder product for muscle pain may not burn as much I really don't know. ANYTHING is better than a headache...as you probably know! :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
xo_underneath answered Thursday July 7 2005, 7:13 pm: It might be cluster headaches. My doctor says I have them & they happen around your eyes and all, and he said that you can experience nausea and vomiting with them.. so that's probably what you have. You might want to talk to your doctor about your problem and ask him if it's cluster headaches. [ xo_underneath's advice column | Ask xo_underneath A Question ]
karatebabe12 answered Thursday July 7 2005, 12:41 pm: Well i'm not a doctor so i'm not sure but it doesn't sound like a normal headache. I would go to a doctor very very soon!!!
jbdreamer answered Thursday July 7 2005, 10:24 am: Having extream headaches everyday is most likely a symptom of some other underlying problem. I would recommened you talk to your doctor about the problem instead of trying to treat it yourself. You need to know the cause of the headaches before tying to treat them. twistedsister17 answered Thursday July 7 2005, 10:16 am: First, it might have to do with allergies. Talk to your doctor about ANY allergies you might have. Second, you might have a jaw condition that I have called tsmj or something like that. It means that you grind your teeth at night causing your jaw to be irritated and also causing bad headaches. You can wear a mouthguard (dont worry theyre comfy!) to bed to help prevent this.(you get them as prescribed by a doctor) Whatever the case, talk to your doctor!
P.S> drink lots of water. Water always helps. [ twistedsister17's advice column | Ask twistedsister17 A Question ]
Julie174 answered Thursday July 7 2005, 10:16 am: you probably have a migrain. My brother had the same effects. Just go to your doctor and he'll/she'll give you medicine for it. But if it's not a migrain...then I don't know what it is. Sorry.
