Bad handwriting

Question Posted Friday May 27 2005, 5:03 am

I have horrible handwriting. It is realy hard to read it.Once I got sent to the principal just because of my handwriting. My teacher said I should go to a doctor.I went for a dance class and you had to bend your thumb and keep your other fingers flat.I ended up bending all my fingers.I was the only one who could not do that.My mother will not take me to a doctor, she says we'll get laughed out of his clinic. Some times even I can't read my hand writing.I am 13/f.
Is there something wrong with me?

I do know what I'm talking about. You are obviously very poor in reading comprehension as well as writing. You may just be dumb, in which case that explains both failings on your part.

Well, you are what's called double jointed in your fingers. I don't know how that could hurt your handwriting. Have you ever tried to write with your LEFT hand? Sometimes when you are young and first learning to write the teacher MAKES you write with the right hand, because MOST people are right handed. But you already know you are different. Being double jointed is rare too. Try with your left and see what happens. Also, get some Palmer Method Cursive books and practice. I hope you are a lefty. It could make improving your handwritting much easier. Luck!

Yeah, if you went to the doctor for bad hand writing, I would laugh you outta the clinic. Your teacher is an ass. I recommend sticking tacks on his/her seat.

I know exactly what you mean. I have horrible handwriting too. Have had it all my life. I got in soooo much trouble when I was young. I went to a catholic school, and penmanship was so important. The schools were enter into contests for penmanship. The nuns told me that my handwriting was giving the whole school a bad name. I cried a lot. Nothing has ever changed. I do notice that caffene and stuff like that makes it worse. I think it is because I think faster than I can write, so I write so fast, that it is illegible. Even to me. (like you) The best thing I did was take typing in school. That was over 30 years ago. when computers came along, I was ready to go, because I can type or keyboard using all fingers. Actually I type about 75 words a minute. And I am very accurate. And I type most of my notes, and letters and messsages. And print them. It has saved me. Even personal notes. I apologize and just say that my handwriting is terrible. I was a bookkeeper for many years. Recorded everything by hand. It did hurt me with some jobs. But now everything is computerized and I don't have to write anything any more. Practice your keyboarding. It will help you a lot. Now, about the only thing I do sign is my name.
(hey listen, I am very smart and have a great career and have accomplished a lot in my life, so my handwriting did not hold me back. It won't hold you back either, unless you let it.)

Michele

Hope this helps.

You may have issues with the signals traveling from your brain to your hand. My sister has the same problem. She is really inept at doing anything with her hands.

Stop by a store like Staples, Walmart, or Office Depot and see if you can find an elemantary penmanship book to practice with.

A doctor might not be a bad idea. My sister saw a doctor, but he just gave her coordination building activities (she's in her 20's). Try some things like Pick-up Sticks, or playing an instrument. However, it might be something that you need physical therapy for.

I know a friend, Her handwriting sucks. You can't even make out a letter, seriously.

I think your just fine. If your so worried than search the internet and see if you can find anything on "bad handwriting", I doubt you'll find anything.
Also, If you can't go to the doctor but feel you should than call the doctor and talk to him. Voice what you feel and I'm sure He'll tell you your just fine.
