mrs_radcliffe answered Friday April 22 2005, 12:17 pm: Yes it is possible that you will have something wrong with your neck when your older. Go see that doctors and ask them for some advice about it.
Karen answered Friday April 22 2005, 9:01 am: No, it's not true that you'll mess up your neck from cracking it. If you somehow crack it wrong, you could pull a muscle but that rarely happens. Don't worry, you won't have a messed up neck when you're older. [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
EJ47 answered Friday April 22 2005, 6:44 am: No, not entirely. When you crack your neck you release a fluid buildup in your bones, which you dont need. Therefor helping yourself ^_^
Asc answered Friday April 22 2005, 2:45 am: In short: no, not really.
As I understand it, neck cracking streches the ligaments in the neck further than they were meant to, which puts more stress on the muscles and may result in stiffness and from that the desire to do it again (and so on and so forth). It is also ~suspected~ of accelerating the eventual onset of arthritis.
Note that finger cracking also doesn't cause arthritis but does weaken your grip significantly if done very much, an effect that I can personally confirm. Possibly cracking your neck will have the same effect... maybe that's why my posture is so bad eh? [ Asc's advice column | Ask Asc A Question ]
Mackenzie answered Friday April 22 2005, 2:35 am: That's what I've always heaRd. Now, if it's tRue oR not, I have no idea. I suppose it could be? But a couple times won't huRt, so have at it. =D [ Mackenzie's advice column | Ask Mackenzie A Question ]
FunnyCide answered Friday April 22 2005, 1:10 am: Lol I do the same thing. I'm trying not to, because there is a chance it might cause Arthritis. (not something that you want to mess with - especially if it runs in your family - as it does in mine). I would try and stop because of the chance, and you might disalign (sorry about spelling) a vertebrae. Or hurt a tendon or muscle. Or pull a nerve. There's just alot that could go wrong, that's why I'm trying to stop. That's just my opinion though. :)
