i straighten my hair just about every day and its starting to get pretty damamaged. my hair is thin and wavy, and 4-6 inches past shoulder length. please let me know if you have any suggestions! thanks!!!
Wowitzbrit answered Tuesday March 29 2005, 3:18 pm: Get that 4-6 inches cut off, get everything that is dead off your hair. When I started striaghtening my hair it was really dead, I had to get it all cut off and it was like up past my shoulders a little bit. It really sucked because I hate short hair and I like long hair, but anyways I let my hair grow out again, and it was healthy, but to keep my hair healthy I use a heat protector called biosilk. It works really good. So I can still striaghten my hair, and it isn't damaged, I also get my hair cut every 4 weeks, your suppose to weight longer but your hair dies really quick when you striaghten it. Good luck. Karen answered Tuesday March 29 2005, 2:51 pm: Well, since you said you have all the hair supplies that will fiz your hair and such, I won't mention anymore. Other ways to do your hair instead of straightening it or putting it in a pony tail everyday that won't damage your hair are to curl or scrunch your hair by using your hands. Just put gel in your hair when you get out of the shower and scrunch your hair (squeezing hair in your hands while going through your hair) and just spray hair spray when you are done. You should also try straightening your hair about 2 or 3 times a week and use the new Garnier Fructice Long and Sleek shampoo/conditioner. It helps my hair because I straighten it every day.

headbangqueen392 answered Tuesday March 29 2005, 1:40 pm: I straighten mine too! what I do if my hair starts getting damaged is I use a leave in conditioner or a mositurising shampoo, Nuetrogena's triple moisture line is great for that. Also like you i have wavy hair. Because your hair has natural body why not scrunch it when you get out of the shower and use ethier some mouse or gel to hold your waves and curls together. I suggest using using a lighter producxt like Dove for this since you hav thin hair and by using anything heavy on your it'll make it look greasy. Also if you feel like spending a little extra most salons or day spas offer special hair treatments for this kind of damage the effect last i think about a month or so. I knew a freind of mine who's hair was literally straw becuase it was so fried and when she went to the salon it looked healthy again. Also you can use the frizzease in the light formula if you dont like scrunching your hair.
Sherry answered Tuesday March 29 2005, 12:41 pm: I read this in a magazine from experets: If you straighten your hair, wash your hair with cold water. {Not like freezing cold, but luke-warm). Oh and every month cut your hair a half inch. So the split ends are gone and its kinda healthy. Try not to straighten it every day/every other day. How about curling it as well? You know scrunching it..So your hair gets a break from all the heat. good luck! if you dont know what scrunching is ask me =) [ Sherry's advice column | Ask Sherry A Question ]
Emo4Life answered Tuesday March 29 2005, 9:57 am: I straighten mine too! The best thing I found is to use leave in conditioner that protects against heat styling. Also, try not touch your hair a lot during the day, becuase then you can wear it down without having to straighten it. Washing your hair everyday isn't good for it anyway. X3ReDhEaDX3 answered Monday March 28 2005, 11:55 pm: hey! i straighten my hair too! well if i were you, i would straighten it every other day, nd when you do, seperate it in only 4 parts so it doesnt get too much heat. on the days you dont, put your hair in a messy bun or wet it and put spray or mousee in it, and scrunch it so it get curly. if you experiment youll find a way, trust me. but definitely dont straighten for a week, let your hair get its stregth back so u have something to straighten! Little_Miss_Cant_Be_Wrong answered Monday March 28 2005, 11:28 pm: Give your hair a break, and make an effort to go at least a couple days during each week without using the straightening iron. Invest in a good leave-in conditioner to give your hair some nutrients, and prevent it from getting to dried out and damaged. Also, keep getting regular trims off the bottom, so the ends of your hair don't get all straggly. That will keep it looking healthy. Most importantly, though, I would get the leave-in conditioner. Maybe go to a salon, and get some good salon products. I would recommend the Matrix line of products, like Matrix System Biolage stuff. I hope this helped a bit, good luck! therocketsummer answered Monday March 28 2005, 11:14 pm: Well, you might want to get a better straightener, flat irons work best. Also, there is this stuff called BioSilk, probably the best stuff in the world. don't use too much or it will make your hair look greasy. ew. punkrockprincess answered Monday March 28 2005, 11:10 pm: I would say stop with the straightening for a while. Get a good shampoo and conditioner for dry and damaged hair. Hot oil your hair about once every week. Hopefully your hair will get back to normal!!
