Hey, can anyone give me symptoms of strep throat? I think I might have it. My throat has been hurting really bad the past 3 days, my nose has been stuffed up, my head hurts, and my stomach hurts...ick. Thanks a bunch!
AdviceMistress answered Tuesday February 22 2005, 1:02 pm: What Are the Symptoms?
Sore throat that comes on rapidly.
Fever, sometimes greater than 102° F.
Back of the throat that is raw and red.
White pus on tonsils.
Tender, high lymph nodes in neck.
Absence of cough, stuffy nose, or other upper-respiratory symptoms.
Although by definition strep throat is caused by the Streptococcus pyogenes bug, other bacteria can occasionally invade the throat and cause similar symptoms. Other possible invaders: staphylococcus, neisseria, and Hemophilus influenzae.
People usually develop strep throat when their immune systems are not functioning at their peak. Stress, overwork, exhaustion, and fights with viral infections can weaken the body's defenses and set up attacks of strep throat. And like other throat infections, strep throat also tends to occur during the colder months.

brittanysays answered Monday February 21 2005, 1:11 pm: I just got over that at christmas! Ok your throat will be a very bright red and you may have pustules on the back of your throat which you can see if you open your mouth say ahhhh and look with a flashlight. You will also have a fever ever 101. When you go to a doctor they will give you a strep throat test, this is where they swab the back of your throat and test it for Group A Streptococci. If you have it they will most likely prescribe pennicillian that you must take for 5-10 days. Here is a website that will provide you with alot more info! [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
Hope ya feel better! [ brittanysays's advice column | Ask brittanysays A Question ]
S_C answered Monday February 21 2005, 12:58 pm: I'm just getting over strep, that and mono are going around our school. I've had strep a lot in the past too. You have it. I'm not a doctor, but I can tell you, if your head hurts, your throat hurts, and you're congested, you either have strep, or a viral infection. I'm not a doctor, and I don't pretend to be, but most likely you have it. When I had it, I took my own tempature at home with a plastic thermometer and my temp was 101.9, a few hours later when the doctor took it, my temp was 104.3 So you would have a fever. I was also really dizzy all day long, and I felt like I was going to faint. I felt terribly sick when sitting down, but when walking around I felt okay. I couldn't concentrate on anything because I felt so bad. I was really tired, and when I got home from school I slept for 2 hours straight. Also (this is the gross part) my doctor told me my tonsils were gross (how rude ;-p) my doctor also said that my tonsils were really big, red, and there was pus on them. The doctor also told me that I had the worse tonsils that my doctor had seen in a long time (I thought that was rather harsh ;-P) But yeah, you get it. You either have strep or some type of viral infection. Hope you feel better soon :-) [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
Crystal_Lake answered Monday February 21 2005, 12:30 pm: In order to know if you have strep then you have to go to the doctors and have them test you for it, if you dont go and just think you have strep, you might actually and you need a doctors prescription. So in conclusion go to the doctors and see if you have strep.
Hope you feel and get better

jbdreamer answered Monday February 21 2005, 11:29 am: Doesn't sound like strep. It sounds more like a sinus infection if your head hurts and is stuffed up. The soar throat is caused by fluids draining down your throat. I can't guess why your stomach hurts. Go see your doctor. [ jbdreamer's advice column | Ask jbdreamer A Question ]
Karen answered Monday February 21 2005, 11:05 am: The symptoms of strep throat are: severe and sudden sore throat without coughing or sneezing; pain or difficulty swallowing; fever over 101 °F (lower fevers may indicate a viral infection); swollen lymph nodes in the neck; white or yellow spots or coating on the throat and/or tonsils; bright red throat or dark red spots on the roof of the mouth at the back near the throat; and swollen tonsils (tonsils may also be swollen if the sore throat is caused by a viral infection).
