Drama_Secretary answered Sunday February 13 2005, 4:12 pm: I have a question, would you have been mad at them if they had said you totally suck. Why are you so defensive over the fact you're friends are being nice. Every friend says that when another friend goes out on a limb. You're friends are supposed to be supportive. You have really good friends that are proud of you. They weren't lying, they were being good friends. [ Drama_Secretary's advice column | Ask Drama_Secretary A Question ]

When other people give you good feedback, it makes you feel better, and gives you more courage to do better. How do u think you would feel if they said...."oh you dont stand a chance?" Do you think you would have even tried out? You should be greatful you have friends who care for you and believe in you. [ feverdancer03's advice column | Ask feverdancer03 A Question ]

One of my friends who do this column(JR) Imed me and asked me if this column was mine! too funny! lol...Anyways... The same thing happened to me and so far... no matter how peeved I am that I didnt get the part that I wanted, I still go on with the show and remember that there will be another chance in the next show... so just wait it out. I find that sometimes being in the ensamble is better anyways... and no... I dont think that you're friends are lieing to you...all my friends say the same thing to me.. and they know how critical singing is to me... and so,,, when ever i get a feleing or thought that they are saying it just to say it... then i say what ever... and just pretend like I am an awesome singer abd what not... or just pretend like I like my own singing and I know that I am a good singer... And also.. parts in the play are not only based on your singing... They are based on how well the director thinks that you can hold your part and if you are right for that certain part... I found that out the hard way... by the way... what play are you doing?
Hope that I helped... Let me know!

hopeihelped answered Saturday February 12 2005, 3:14 pm: Hey.. being a townsperson isn't that bad! I was a townsperson last year for my school production and I must say that I had a blast! I mean, you could've been great, but maybe you just don't fit the part. You might look and act weird with the other actors. Or maybe you're a wonderful actor, but you're singing voice isn't all that great. You should go to an acting camp or class this summer and they'll tell you what you need to work on.
I've got to more things to say. Number one, you're friends probably thought that you were great because otherwise they wouldn't have said anything to you. And number two, DON'T QUIT THE PLAY JUST BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T GET THE PART THAT YOU WANTED TO! My friends are all doing that this year and it shows that you're not dedicated to the production, you just want the spotlight. No pun intended. ;)

Don't blame you not making the "big part" On yOu or friendsz...because I don't think they were lying..they prObably had faith in y0u and were tellinq you that t0 make you believe in yourself. Some friends will lie to make you feel better, I do that all the time...but it's for qood intentions..i`m sorry you didnt make the part =( but better luck next time! ballerina04 answered Saturday February 12 2005, 11:07 am: I don't think they were lying to you. Maybe they thought that's what you were going to get. Anyway, even a townsperson will help improve your acting. It's a good experience just to get involved. Have fun! Karen answered Saturday February 12 2005, 10:22 am: I don't think friends would lie about things like that. If they said that "you will get the best part", then they were telling the truth and really thought that you would get the best part. Don't worry about it, once you start doing more plays, your teacher will notice you that you are good and you will get better parts in other plays. It takes time but you just have to wait. Hope I helped :)

I don't think your friends were lying to you. Maybe they actualy thought that you would get the best part. I think that that's what they did, because your friends will always be there for you.
silverkissofdeath answered Saturday February 12 2005, 10:10 am: i can't tell you if they are lying or not, but i don't think they were lying to make you feel better. and don't say only a townsperson, because every part is important, your part is just as impotnt as the main characters. i understand where your comeing from, i was in the play "The Sound Of Music" this year and i only got a nun and a party guest part. i tried out for the spring drama team also this year, and am currently a main character and i have a contemprary scence with one of my friends (this is actaully a drama/acting competion that i'm working on right now). well anywho, your director obviously thinks you have great potential to put you in the play at all, think of all hte other people that auditioned and didn't make it, your director probably wanted to see if he could work with you in the furture for a mina character? anyways there are no small parts, play the townsperson to your best ability, who knows, the next play you audition for you could become a main character. chin up,don't give up and good luck!
