Well, this is probably one of the most random questions I personally have ever asked. I love Panera's French Baguette (sp?) it's basically a long loaf of french bread. It is by far the best bread ever. But, getting to my question, I buy the bread when it is nice and fresh so it's warm and soft. After about 2-3 days, the bread gets hard. Is there any way to prevent the bread from getting hard? I had to put it in the microwave just to make it soft enough to bite into! I can't bite into hard things because I have braces and they might break off. But can anyone tell me as to how I can keep the bread from getting hard and virtually unedible? Thanks!
Jk... you'll just have to keep it airtightly wrapped. This may or may not work. Of not, keep heating it up. That seems to work, right? Then it's all warm too! :D [ Deanimal's advice column | Ask Deanimal A Question ]

Bread you buy at the store has preservatives in it. Homemade breads have none. So, unfortunatley they just don't keep long at all.I guess you will just have to get it ate faster! OR, if you are adventerous you could always make your own! Try it. Don't let a failure stop you either(failures still taste good). With practice you can get real good at it.If you try-let me know how you did. [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
jbdreamer answered Monday February 7 2005, 4:57 pm: Good fresh baked bread does only last a few days, especially hard breads. That's why bakerys sell "day old bread" at a cheaper price. Even if you keep it sealed in an air tight container, it will never be as good as that first day. [ jbdreamer's advice column | Ask jbdreamer A Question ]
mascott106 answered Saturday February 5 2005, 8:19 pm: maybe you could out it in a time freeze chamber. nah actually most cooking websites have thier own remedy for this. but i think that one of those vacuum seal machines would work best. see the hardening is caused by air inside the bread. the soft yummy part is hardening to keep the flavor in, which makes no sense but either way. so the best bet u could place is getting a vaccum sealer machine. it would keep it fresh as long as you might like but it should be good for about a week. black and decker makes a rally nice one and sears is in second, but they are a little expensive. id go with black and decker because it comes with an attachment that seals jars too. hope i helped some. Erinn_the_bamf answered Saturday February 5 2005, 9:18 am: Maybe you can get a bread box. A bread box is simply something you store bread in to keep fresh. I also have the same problems with a type of walfes. What you can do is put it in a toaster oven for about 5 minutes before you store it. It should stay pretty crispy. I hope I helped! ♥ good luck [ Erinn_the_bamf's advice column | Ask Erinn_the_bamf A Question ]
FunnyCide answered Friday February 4 2005, 10:12 pm: Dude! I speak Engrish! Don't worry about it!! (it's sortof a joke with me and a few friends..) Anyway. You could try putting it in a cupboard, but if you don't take it out at least every other day, it'll grow mold then be bad. Put it in the refrigerator. It'll be cold, yes. But it'll also stay much, much fresher. If you plan on eating it, take it out of the fridge about 10 min. before you want to eat it. Then it won't be as cold, and it will still be fresh. Make sure that you're covering it up and closing it well. Make sure there is absolutely no air in the bag. Air is what makes bread go stale. I understand the whole braces thing. (I don't have them, but a few friends do) Popping the bread in the microwave is a good idea, though. If you want it warm and soft... but it sortof takes the flavor out of the bread if you're not careful lol. So, yeah. If putting it in the refrigerator and/or putting in a cupboard doesn't work, ask the people at the store how to keep it fresh. Happy Valentines Day!!
