I was browsing the internet and remembered a site I had visited earlier called TeenOrg or something like that- it had like chat rooms and articles and stuff. I was pretty sure I remembered it, so I typed in teenorg.com. And viola, a teen porn page appears. Of course I closed it out, but I'm freaked now- my uncle fixes my computer quite often and I'm scared he'll see it.
My internet browser is Mozilla Firefox and my computer is Windows XP. How do I get rid of it?
Additional info, added Sunday January 30 2005, 4:08 pm: What I mean is how do I get rid of all proof of me visiting the website?. Want to answer more questions in the Technology category? Maybe give some free advice about: Internet & Web Design? felinephoenix answered Saturday February 12 2005, 9:38 am: Simple. Clear your cache. Go to Tools > Options > Privacy and then click the "clear" button under Cache. It'd also be a good idea to clear cookies, too. Then wipeo, presto, the nasty icky porn site is off your computer.
Actually, it'd be a good idea to do that whenever you're done net surfing -- the websites you go to take up space on your computer (the cache is a record of all the sites you've visited recently, so you don't have to keep typing up the address and junk like that) which can pile up quick. darkcoffeegurl answered Saturday February 5 2005, 11:41 am: Hey, okay I'm going to try to help you, I have Mozilla Firefox too, so this what you should do.:
Go to Tools in your menu on Firefox, then click Options at the very bottom of the drop down menu. Once ur in Options, go to the category called Privacy, and there go to the sub-category called History. Next to it there should be a button saying Clear. Click that, and the proof of that site u visited will be erased. I hope that works, please try it,because i think it will. I you want to delete the cookies or whatever as well, then go to my column and ask me the question and i will tell you how. Hope that helps:). dreamingkat answered Friday February 4 2005, 12:22 am: It appears that everyone is giving you answers for internet explorer. Incomplete answers even.
Go to: Edit -> Preferences. On the left-hand side of the window that comes up, there are all sorts of options. Each step will remove some of the "evidence". These instructions remove information on *all* sites, but it's also possible to remove information on just one site. If you need explicit instructions on how to do that, let me know.
1. Clear the Cache (files stored on your computer)
Advanced -> Cache -> Clear Cache
2. Remove Cookies (little bits of data sites store to remember you)
Privacy & Security -> Cookies -> Cookie Manager -> Remove All Cookies
3. Clear History and Location Bar History
Navigator -> History -> Clear History
Navigator -> History -> Clear Location Bar
I left out the information on removing saved information for passwords and form fields, because I'm pretty sure you don't need to do that.
chaos answered Monday January 31 2005, 9:46 am: It was an honest mistake. It happens to all of us. Why don't you just ask your uncle to block this site? Explain you didn't mean to go there. Being honest is so much easier. Even if you erase all the cookies, there are still ways to figure it out. [ chaos's advice column | Ask chaos A Question ]
mousie_101 answered Sunday January 30 2005, 11:02 pm: Just tell him rite away, before he finds it and you can prove to him that its a chat room by going on google and typing in Teen Chat or Teen Org or whatever and explain all what happens before he even finds it. S_C answered Sunday January 30 2005, 5:13 pm: Either delete cookies, delete your history, or go to a BUNCH (like 10 or 20) websites, and it won't show your recent website visits. Or if he asks about it, tell him the truth. If you don't know how to delete history, then at the top of the page, it'll say file, edit, view, favorites, tools, and help. Click tools, then at the very bottom it'll say internet options... click on that. There's a spot where you can click delete cookies, and there is a spot that says delete history. (there are lots of other things, but you want to do one of the two) do whichever of the two you please. And when you delete history, doing that doesn't always work, so after you do that you might want to while holding down cntrl press H. Then it'll show you all the sites you've visited (it might show none if deleting history worked) right click those with your mouse, and press delete. Hope I've helped! Sorry if it's too confusing. You-Can-Ask-Matt answered Sunday January 30 2005, 4:53 pm: i had the same problem once
wat you have to do is go to like 12 or 15 different web-sites and it will be eraced from you "recent web-search"<thingy but the site will still be shown on youre hard drive-the only way to accese youre hard drive is through a server/a main computer that runs mainly to control another group of computers, so i dont think you have anything to worry about
P.S. do not rub a strong magnet on youre computer-it will erase EVERYTHING on hard drive
Shelbyjune answered Sunday January 30 2005, 4:48 pm: Beat your uncle to the punch. Tell him what you were originally looking for, that you stumbled across this disgusting website and that you're sorry.
Oh, brother, I just saw your addendum. I understand your need to banish the proof, but believe me, your uncle will discover it somehow someway sooner or later. Once a lie is started, another lie has to built on it, then another and another and another. The worst part of it, you have to keep track of all of them and sometime you're going to get caught in mixing them up. Come clean to your uncle, it's one helluva lot easier and he'll respect you for it in the long run (you'll respect yourself, too)
Do I sound like parent? Probably because I am one. [ Shelbyjune's advice column | Ask Shelbyjune A Question ]
Sherry answered Sunday January 30 2005, 4:46 pm: I had Mozilla Firefox. I dont have it anymore but you need to find the "Prefrences" icon or something like settings, look for history, and clear it out. But, if you did not clear the history dont worry. I mean, you can just explain to him what happened! But only tell him about it if he asks. Because if you just start talking about it he'll think you actually did look at the porn. Karen answered Sunday January 30 2005, 4:11 pm: You can do two things; You can clear your history by going to "TOOLS" then to "INTERNET OPTIONS" and then click "CLEAR HISTORY". Or you could delete your recent search by going to "Start" then to "Settings" then to "Taskbar & Start Menu" and then click "Clear Documents Menu" in one of the tabs. You could also delete your temporary internet files or cookies for that website if you go in the temporary internet files or cookies folder in your computer. Hope I helped :)
