new years parties

Question Posted Thursday December 30 2004, 10:47 pm

New Years Eve, aka tomorrow night is my friend Lisa's birthday. She is throwing a small party that starts at three thirty. My friend Jenny and I want to go to another party that is kind of late at night. Lisa never really articulated when her party was over and doesn't really seem to express interest in late night stuff. So me and Jenny are confused if it's rude to leave her party at 11 or so to go to the other one because we really, really, really don't want to hurt Lisa's feelings.

i dont think your friends birthday party would go for about 7 hours. lol, i dont think it would be rude to leave, but just tell her that you and a friend gotta go to this other party. i dont think lisa would get her feelings hurt, just get her a good gift! haha im just kidding, but have fun! happy holidays. x0 Renee

Yah, I think you could leave around 11...that sounds like a long party if she's not into late night stuff. Just call her up tomorow and tell her how excited you are about her party and talk about whatever and then be like, "Oh yah, what time is your party ending?" and if she's like "oh, theres no real ending time..." just tell her you have to leave around 11. It's not rude...and chances are, her party will be ending before that anyways!

I think you should ask her. Its too risky to guess, since she might really be offended if her party lasts into the night and you leave. Dont mention the other party at first, just ask how long she figured her party will last since it is new years eve and you want to plan out your night. Then, based on her answer you can then choose to mention the other party (maybe inviting her along or whatever) or not. If you ask her diplomatically you cant go wrong.

in my opinion i dont think that you should leave the other friends party unless when you get to that time see whats going on around the party, calmly ask her what time it ends

No its not rude. 7 1/2 hours is PLENTY of time to spend at someone's party. Infact you'll probably be leaving her party before 11:00 if you say she isn't into late night stuff.

3:30 pm to 11:00 pm is a long party.

The party will probably be over by then and you'll be perfectly able to get on to the next one... additionally, if the party isn't over (which I highly doubt) you can always politely mention that you've been there since 3 in the afternoon.
