Answering questions

Question Posted Friday October 22 2004, 12:14 am

Why do people answer questions, just to say they don't know, or to ask somebody else?

Why do people answer questions they obviously, from their answers, don't have a clue about?

For attention or to piss people off, in my opinion. Or they're bored. Sometimes, some people are just @$$holes, just because they are. Its no different than the people you meet on the street.

Hi Sweetie,
I can only assume these people don't have much going on in their lives. ...They seem to be trying to find a way to make time pass by. And since they're idiotic they do dumb things such as answering 'I don't know' when its not necessary. ...They're just weird, I suppose.
Fustrating, I know. Hope you don't run into these people too much. Best wishes. ~Blessed Be...

They probably do it to raise their question count. It's really quite unethical.

MFS answered Friday October 22 2004, 10:38 am:
I've complained about that since shortly after I started on this site... mind you, I'm member #33, so that means that things have been that way since essentially the public beginning of this site.

Some people are just obsessed with aswering things - it is almost like they thought they'd get a prize for having lots of answers. But they never bothered to think that saying "lol! idk! omg! lol! hope i help u! lol!" made them look, well... hell, do I even need to say it? I even ranted in the music section once because people who were asking specific questions about guitar were getting horrible advice from people who had absolutely NO musical background. It was litterally, "Oh, I heard that bass is hard." and shit like that. It was just absolutely stupid. I flat out said, "hey, if you don't know what you're talking about - SHUT UP!" And even that didn't sink in.

But I digress....

Why do people give empty answers? Because they are morons. No one will convince me otherwise, because, damnit, there are a lot of really fucking stupid people out there in the world, and they all like to hear themselves (or in this case, see themselves) blather away.

It also doesn't help that some dumbasses will rate anything and everything with a "5" just for having responded to a question. Thus the whole "whee... it's the answering game!" factor comes into play again. Which of course just loops right back to the argument that people are stupid.

Am I harsh? Perhaps. Am I wrong? Sadly, probably not. Oh well, live and learn, there's only so much in life we can control, and luckily so far, the number of people who are actually able to answer questions has managed to outnumber the buffoons who blather away like broken records of "omg! i dunno! lol!".

Maybe they do have a clue and you just don't.

yeah, sorry about that. On a more serious note, it makes them feel good about themselves, more important.
