[[.*+ Big Job Interview +*.]]

Question Posted Tuesday October 19 2004, 12:46 pm

Hi there! I've got my own column on here (EMiLYELiZABETH) but today I'm needing some advice.

I'm 2O/f and tomorrow I've got a huge job interview with the police department. My question is... what should I wear and how should I do my hair?? It's brown with reddish highlights, half way down my back (about to the bottom of my bra). I like it either up or down, so that isn't an issue.

As far as what to wear, I was wondering about pinstripe pants or a skirt? Also, what kind of shirt? I've got a few nice sweaters or some that I can layer with.

Any help would be GREATLY appricated!! Thanks so much!

Em

Hello, Emily Elizabeth. I think you should definately go with the skirt, because it looks way more professional (pinstripe pants aren't interview-wardrobe-worthy :D). You can wear a V-neck sweater with a striped blouse underneath or a solid, matching colored blouse. Or, you could wear a skirt with a solid color blouse. Leave the blouse unbuttoned and wear a nice matching tee underneath (Or it could be sleeveless.). Layers look cool, too. Wear whatever feels best, but remember to look presentable and professionable. As for your hair, you can loosely curl it, leave it down and straight, or tie it in a low ponytail with a ribbon. You could also pull it back in a tight bun. Good luck! Hope all goes well!

well it all depends on color coordnation..thats the first BIG thing about fashion make sure everything matches..i suggest the pinstripe pants unless u have to bend over and pick something up or something and i think layering the sweaters would look really nice! just wear ur hair straight it would look really professional! good luck :)

Hair up in ponytail, or a bun. Pinstripe pants, and a white shirt, or depending on the color of the pants, choose a shirt, I only said white because it matches everything. So really, unless your unsure, use a white shirt, or sweater, just make sure it looks good together. I like the proffesion you are choosing, I think it'd be cool to work with the police department, but I'd rather be a fire fighter. Remeber, first impressions are important, don't get freaked out or anything, but pretend you own your own business, and then think of what you might consider professional for somebody to where on the interview. I'm only a 13 year old girl, but but I'm also a freshman in high school, and I know my fashion!!

I definately think that you should have your hair down but have it neatly back sort of in a clip or something so that you look professional. If you wear a skirt to an interview for the police department, it won't seem as if you're ready for that kind of job. So definately go with pinstriped pants. For a shirt, go with a sweater in a matching color of your pants. Hope this helped. Oh yeah... my name's Emily too.

No to the sweater with pinstripe pants..lol. I love the idea of the pinstripe pants, they are totally back in fashion. Assuming the stripe is white wear a silk or regular white shirt. {V-neck} As far as hair, I think you should wear it up in a french twist. To give you more of a professional look. Generally, in an interview, you dress one step above what is required to work there. If in doubt, business formal attire will show you have respect for the position.

Don't wear anything too short, you want to come off as a serious business woman, instead of a slut. :) I would go with pinstripe pants, black pumps, and a black tank/spaghetti strap top. And leave your hair down. :) Good luck!

If you wear a skirt, make sure it's not to short. Think church clothes, a skirt that is to short for church, is most likely to short for a job interview. On the same note, a shirt to tight or low cut for church, isn't good for an interview either. I think a nice sweater and pinstripe pants, or a simple skirt would be fine. Also, remember to do your nails, either make sure they're painted or leave them unpainted, don't go in with chipped nail polish. And if you wear earrings, don't wear any bigger than a dime, and dangly earrings are probably not a good idea either. You might want to wear your hair up, in a simple bun, or in a ponytail, or just clip it back from your ears with barrettes. Good luck!

You want to look classy and mature, but don't overdo it.

What I suggest is a long sleeved, short dress shirt with pinstripe pants and black heels, if you have any.

Put your hair in a ponytail so it looks neater and you give off the impression of someone who is organized and reliable.

Keep the colours you wear minimal. Gray, beige, cream, and black are colours that go well in interviews.
