Junior Olympics???

Question Posted Wednesday September 15 2004, 8:40 pm

Are there such things as a Junior Olympics? This girl on my basketball team claims she went to Athens for the Olympics, and since she's only 13/14 she would be too young to play for the USA Junior/Regular Woman's basketball olympic teams. My brother says that there is probably one for kids, but it's only a sideshow and no one really talks about it. I don't disagree but I just want to check it out and see if there was one...

Yes, there is JO. No, I do not think that any JO players went to Athens... mainly because JO has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OLYMPICS. I still have no idea how they got permission to use the name.

JO teams are run nationally, and they have local and national tournaments. In our area, it is mainly volleyball. AAU covers most of basketball. I forget who runs the equivalent organization for baseball and soccer.

JO is not the olympics. It is sports, and it is for junior high and high school.

Yup, there is a Junior Olympics. I know some people who went to Athens for basketball, gymnastics, and volleyball. I'm not sure where you can find a site where you can see the roster for those people who went. Hope I helped :)
