this won't sound like awesome advice but it's true, you shouldn't think about anything as you fall asleep. actually close your eyes and just really don't think about anything at all. the counting sheep doesn't work because when you want to go to sleep, you just find yourself sitting there in the middle of the night counting and doing something for no reason. what i do, if you have a tv in your room, is when you start to go to sleep, dim the brightness on the tv and put it on sleep for as high as the time will go. then don't have the volume be normal; make sure its so you can just barely distinguish what they're saying. so all you have is a mostly dark tv with low volume and sleep on as high as it can go. it works for me. and it also helps a lot of theres no lights on outside your room or anything like that either. good luck

mi friend has the same issue. she couldnt get to sleep so she bought a sound soother and she plays it every night and it helps. If you do a lot of running around or sports a few hours prior, it is hard to go to sleep.

If I were you, I would try to clear my mind. You're probably stressed or just have a lot of thoughts going through your mind about the day or what tomorrow will be like. Think of the thoughts, and then after you do, try to erase it from your mind so you can get some sleep =)

If I was too confusing just tell me!

to get to sleep, i have something called an "air machine" it makes noises from nature that drowns out everything else. its a peaceful way to get to sleep. there are also cds used to make you relax. my friend uses a cd that has soft music to put you to sleep. these things work very well. you could also try taking a hot bath before bed. that works for me.
hope i helped

I sometimes have trouble falling asleep too. Well don't get a song stuck in your head, because it doesn't help. Think about nothing. Think about something really boring. And don't think hard.

yeah me too... it usually takes me longer than tha, though. one way that works a lot is trying to be really active during the day so you're tired at night. another is to try breathing really deeply for a while, it makes your body think you're ready for a rest. hope i helped!!!

I learned about this is physchology!
Dont drink caffine or alcohol for 2 hours before you go to bed. Try not to do anything in your bed thats not sleeping (homework, talking on the phone etc.) reading and watching tv is ok but try to just leave your bed for sleeping. Open a window cause oxygen makes you sleepy. When you get in bed take 3 deep breaths and follow each one with 3 small breaths. Try to clear your mind of all your days worries and try to not think about anything that will make your mind wander.
If you imagine yourself sleeping it makes it easier to get tired and fall asleep. If non of that works try sleeping with your head at the foot of the bed, theres some weird thing about the direction you point when you sleep.
If all else fails take gravol. Nyquil and tylenol pm is super strong!
Hope I helped :)

Make sure that when you get in bed, you're tired.

If you do something, like read a book, or watch tv, you'll fall asleep in no time, while you're doing it. You could play some REALLY soft music, not like hard rock, either, just something soft, like, my sister got this CD that has "night-time helpers" on it, and it has like music that is really soft on it that you can fall asleep to. I use it sometimes, I'll ask her where she got it.

But I DON'T reccomend Tylenol PM, because that's for when something hurts, like a tooth, and you can't fall asleep because of pain. If you take them like every night, your body WON'T sleep on its' own, and it's used to the sleep aid and your body is basically addicted.

I have the same problem and I've tried to have a regular "bedtime schedual" before I go to sleep. Which usually includes reading. It also helps if you have a really boring school bookswhich can put you to sleep. I hope something that someone says will work! Have a good night.

What always works for me is reading magazines or books. What you are reading doesn't have to make sense, it just has to make you tired so that in the end it makes you feel sleepy. Hope it helps!!

i have the same problem! if you are on the computer or doing something that makes your mind think about lots of stuff before you go to bed- it makes you not want to fall asleep. keep 30-45 minutes before you go to sleep open to relaxing and nothing too stressful because you'll be all wired when you try to fall asleep. if that doesnt help- soft music, breathing slowly, sometimes people fall asleep by pretending they fall asleep [ive never tried it], everyone has different ways. try reading- that usually makes people sleepy [especially if you read in bed where you're comfy]. if you need some more ideas just leave one in my inbox. hope you can fall asleep quicker! =] -ask_anything

Siren_Cytherea answered Thursday September 2 2004, 11:23 pm:
Meditate. That's what I do - I have major insomnia. I can get in bed at 1 and stay awake 'til 4 in the morning, but sometimes meditating works.
Or even just deep breathing/letting your mind wander. Just don't concentrate on falling asleep, whatever you do. That'll make it worse, lol.
In through your nose, out through your mouth. Try visualizing, in your mind's eye, at the top of a flight of stairs and count backwards from ten with each breath you let out. If you wanna try meditating, every time a stray thought pops into your head, go up one step. Just concentrate on the stairs and counting backwards. (I do that to get into meditation, it works)...
Um....
I reccomend deep breathing/letting your mind wander.
I hope this helped!
