xo_dream answered Thursday August 19 2004, 2:05 am: You'll usually be asleep when they do it -- and they usually give you vicodin or something afterwards, so you probably won't really be all there for a few days. It usually won't be swollen for too long. I'm sure you'll be fine, I haven't heard of anyone being in like, excruciating pain or anything, so I really don't think it'll be THAT bad, I mean, it's not going to be fun, but it probably won't feel like you got run over by a semi or anything =) [ xo_dream's advice column | Ask xo_dream A Question ]
MummuM answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 10:40 pm: It doesn't hurt when you're getting it done because you are alseep. You mouth is swollen for a couple of weeks (Well, mine were). I guess it all depends on how good you heal up, it might even be shorter. Don't be scared, it's not that big of a deal. Good luck! [ MummuM's advice column | Ask MummuM A Question ]
xoxGotxToxYouxox answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 6:54 pm: HEY! omg i have to get mine pulled too! AND SOON! but i remember my bro went and had his done. he said he couldnt feel it cause he was so drugged but im sure they will give you extreme pain killers to help that. it depends if your having a surgery or gettin them pulled if your awake or not.. if you have surgery they knock you out and if your gettin them pulled then i think they give you a temp sleeping gas. the swelling is for about a week if not that. i hate the dentist too. i hate everything about it but it sucks that we have to go trhough this! lol
good luck to you!!

cailoisa answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 1:23 pm: Usually you're awake and they just numb locally. However, when I had mine out I asked to be put out, because the dentist scares me to death, and I hate mouth pain. (I had a baby without drugs, but not me teeth pulled). I was sore for a while, but my friend was in awful pain for two days, and sore for weeks.
The best way to combat the soreness is to soak gauze in ice water and then put it on the place that hurts. Ask your dentist about something that you can swish with (like cool water or sea salt). [ cailoisa's advice column | Ask cailoisa A Question ]
xoaSkMeox answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 1:14 pm: I have gotten teeth pulled before but never my wisdom teeth. When i got my teeth pulled i couldn't feel a thing. They numb your mouth so that when they are pulling the tooth you can't even tell. Your mouth bleeds a little but it doesn't hurt . . a plus to this whole thing is your parents are sure to pick you up a milkshake and soft ice cream hehe
advicequeen answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 12:29 pm: You don't feel it after a while because they numb it and give you anesthesia, so you're not awake But after the anesthesia is gone, you start feeling it slightly. It hurts enough that you have to rest during the day, but not more than that. Make sure you don't eat hard foods that day. Good luck!
MFS answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 10:10 am: The pain level will have to do with how badly your wisdom teeth are impacted, if at all. If they can just pull them, it won't be too bad. If they have to cut them out, it will suck for a day or two.
Either way, you'll likely not be awake for the procedure, and they'll use lots of novacaine, and then you'll get to do happy fun salt water rinses to keep the wounds clean, and probably have a few pills to take to deal with the pain.
But all in all, you'll be alright in a day or two and won't think anyting more of it. You're better off not worrying about it.
xxxxxx answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 9:28 am: I went to an oral surgeon to get 4 impacted molars out. I was put to sleep. When I woke up everything was pretty much fine. The doctor will give you some pretty hardcore pain killers. My mouth was swollen only for like 3-5 days. It's not as bad as you think. [ xxxxxx's advice column | Ask xxxxxx A Question ]

rawbery79 answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 9:27 am: I had mine out when I was 17. I had two of them impacted under the gum and two that were growing under my newly-straightented teeth, so they knocked me out and surgically removed them and a small part of my jaw bone. I think it only took a couple of hours, I woke up with a ton of gauze in my mouth, and I was tired but mostly fine. They gave me big pink pain killers, so that wasn't an issue. I had it done on a Wednesday in July and was back to normal by Saturday. [ rawbery79's advice column | Ask rawbery79 A Question ]
chaos answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 8:36 am: Wisdom teeth pulling isn't too bad. You won't feel like doing much for 5 days or so. It depends on how impacted they are as to how much swelling there is. When I had them done, they gave me a pain patch and pain pills. I felt very little actual pain. I spent most of my time asleep both during the procedure and after. Stock up on pudding, creame potatoes, and ice cream. That will probably be all you want to eat. The sooner you get them out, the better you will actually feel. [ chaos's advice column | Ask chaos A Question ]
Luscious_Kisses15 answered Wednesday August 18 2004, 8:19 am: haha, i just had mine out a week and a half ago.
You are not awake during the surgery. The Surgery takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Your mouth is swollen for at least 5 days. Um, the first day you'll be pretty numbed up, so you won't feel anything. The 2nd day, the numbness wears off (i hate being numb, so i was glad when it did) but make sure that you take your anti-biotic and pain pill before the numbness wears off or you'll hurt. Um, i mean it's not a huge amount of pain but it does hurt a little. I guess it all depends on your pain level. There will be a lot of discomfort, and you won't be able to eat the food you like for at least a week and a half. It will seem weird trying to eat the first day because your mouth is swollen and numb, and you can't use straws. Just use a mirror and try to get food in your mouth, that's what i did.
