The setters/right side players are good blockers also b/c theyhave to block the left sides from the other team... there are also liberos... or defensive specialists... they play in the back row for more aggressive or better hitters in the front row... liberos can play back row for two ppl at once.. but they can only serve for one person.. hope i helped at all ~Jess~ [ peacefulmind89's advice column | Ask peacefulmind89 A Question ]
rookin answered Tuesday August 17 2004, 9:37 pm: there are 5 positions that you can play in volleyball
1. Libero:typically a D.S., never plays front rows, only passes and serves. Not all high school team have them, but many do.
2. Setter: sets the ball up for the hitters, you can play setter from front and back row.
3. Middle: the hitter who stands in the middle of the net, usually is very tall and can jump high. Pretty much the best of all the hitters
4. Outside: plays to the side of the middle, hits a lot, but not as much as the middle, if you are aggresive in this possition you can usually play a lot
5. right side: a hitter that stands behind the setter and is only set to when they call it, or if for some reason the setter can not set the ball to the other two hitters.
Rotations:
1. A 6:2 rotation is when there is six hitters/libero and two setter, then the setters will only set in the front row and pass in the pack row
2. 5:1 is when there is 5 hitters and one setter, the setter will set from every position, this rotation is a lot more confusing than a 6:2 rotation. [ rookin's advice column | Ask rookin A Question ]
nEwYoRkLaDii answered Monday August 16 2004, 12:40 pm: i luv volleyball! ok on a typical volleyball team i would have to say about 13-16 people. the names of positions are the outsides who are the attackers, hence they spike the ball on the other side. they are positioned on the top left side of each court. another position is the setters. they always get the second ball unless they call for help. this position is played in the top right corner. the middle of the top is played by what i call a middle hitter. their main purpose is blocking and spiking. the middle back gets majority of the serves when the other side is serving. on the left and right of the middle back is people who usually get the serves if the middle back cannot. thurs soooo much more to volleyball!! if you need more help leav sum in my inbox. hope i helped ~nyladi~ [ nEwYoRkLaDii's advice column | Ask nEwYoRkLaDii A Question ]
corporate_casual answered Monday August 16 2004, 12:22 pm: Well, there are different formations for volleyball depending on what level your at and what your strengths and weaknesses are. Typically, there are six people on a team, three in front and three in back. The way I played it, the three in the back would be responsible for bumping or setting the ball to the front row, specifically the setter if possible. The setter is in the front row middle, and they set to either their left or their right (but they should probably warn the person before they do). The people on their left and right spike the set over the net. The person in the back right corner is responsible for setting the ball. And I don't know if you'll do this at high school level or not, but we rotated so everyone played every position. Hope I helped! [ corporate_casual's advice column | Ask corporate_casual A Question ]
Cale answered Monday August 16 2004, 11:53 am: typiccaly i guess there are 9 ppl on a volleyball team (pretty sure but not 100%) and there are no positions really. THe only position is in the back right hand corner... that person is the server. BUt since u switch everytime ur team gets the ball theres no way there could be positions. Basically there all the same thing just playin in different spots. Hoped this help and have fun playin V-Ball!
KateStar1011 answered Monday August 16 2004, 11:47 am: Well....usually in middle school...You only have 6 people on the court. Always. There at 3 in the back, and 3 in the front.
You have a setter, and two hitters. The back row...that's usually people who back up the front row when they mess up. It's been a while since I played middle school volleyball, but I go to my neighbors games. I hope I helped! <3 Have a great day my love!

VBabi13 answered Monday August 16 2004, 11:43 am: Hey! Volleyball is a great sport!!!!*lol* Well it depends on wut formation ur in, so in middle school u'll prolly have a 2-6 or 6-2 which is da normal formation, two setters N two hitters, da setters is usually in da front right! Therre's two setters who set the balls for hitters to spike! N therre's passers in da back who passes or sets to the setters! But they usually pass! it's better! Therre's 12 ppl on a court, u kno in all! but therre's six on each side! u have your left hitter, middle hitter, setters, right back, left back, middle back! the setters are alwayz across from eachotha, if not then they are out of formation! but if u play AAU, which i do, we play 4-6 N stuff like dat! which is harder, cuz da formation is totally differ!Well da postions really are differ! But the main goal is to try to set the ball up for a kill, i hope u kno wut a kill is. if not then a kill is when the hitter attacks da ball N spikes it to the otha side, when no one could touch the ball, N dat makes da ball dead, dat would be a kill! then therre's da server! u have three type of serves! Under-hand, over-hand, N the powerserve, usually used in high school or college or beach volleyball! the underhand is really good for begginners, but it's very accurate, but it doesn't have a lot of power! the over hand has a lot of power! but it's hard on trying to put da bal @ a certain spot! but only if ur dat good then u can! For me muh nickname iin vball is Powerhouse!*lol* well therre's so much more but i don't think i can fit it in, but if u need anything else bout this or anything, then stopp by muh inbox, or IM @ LilKim13x3 or GButta13, Hope i helped, take care

jeanine278972 answered Monday August 16 2004, 11:22 am: Well... there are 6 people on the court at one time. U have 3 in back row and 3 in front row. U have a setter, 2 or 3 hitters and ur backrow players that just pass the ball.
the backrow passes the ball to the setter after the serve or spike. the setter then uses their finger tips to push the ball up into the air to one of the hitters. the hitter than spikes the bal over the net at the other team.
Hope I helped! if u have any more questions.. just drop one in the inbox!!
bRuNeTtExdUdEtTe answered Monday August 16 2004, 10:20 am: i think it depends on how big your school is. only 6 people play on a court at a time. And high school volleyball is different & much more difficult from middle school volleyball. so it depends, are you a middle schooler or high schooler?
