Additional info, added Sunday August 15 2004, 6:52 pm: I DO STRAIGHTEN IT WITH AN IRON BUT IT TAKES SO LONG AND THATS WHAT I WANT TO GO FASTER!. My hair is thick and curly and I like it straight most days.
The only answer is to get some decent straighteners (GHD's - can't beat them!) and do some the night before.
Usually, I try to wash my hair in the evening/night (if you use conditioner too, it makes straightening quicker) and blow dry after towel drying.
This way, if you can't be bothered to straighten it that night, when you wake up, your hair will be smoother and easier to manage.
Also, try out some hairstyles where you don't need to straighten it all, but still feel comfortable. My hair's pretty long so sometimes when I don't have an extra hour and a half in the morning to straighten it from scratch, i'll do a side plait, or loose pigtails, but straighten my fringe and short layers.
Have you looked into getting it straightened professionally at the salon? You need healthy hair for this, because it's chemicals which keep your hair straight until it grows out - you can also buy these kits in the shops, but if you decide to, make sure you seek professional advice so you don't ruin your hair.
xokristabelle answered Wednesday December 14 2011, 9:28 am: I have naturally thick, wavy hair too, here's how I do it:
The night before, after I shower:
- Start blowdrying it about twenty minutes out of the shower (that way it doesn't take so long). Blowdry it straight with a round brush, making sure to add volume.
-Spray it heat protectant (I use It's a 10 Keratin. This step is so important, I ended up having to cut off a bunch of my hair after growing it out for months because it was super damaged from all the heat.) Some companies also make special spray to make straightening easier or keep your hair straight.
- Heat up your straightener and divide your hair into sections. I usually put the top half up and then do 1-2 inch sections.
Then straighten. Spray with hair spray, put hair up, and go to sleep.

Or if its too pricey make sure you blow dry your hair straight first and then straighten your hair. You can always pop into local hairdressers or more recognisable hairdressers and ask them to recommend some affordable products for you.
Also when you get your hair cut, get them to cut the middle underneath of your hair shorter than the rest of your hair. You won't notice because its underneath but it helps to make sure you hair isn't tangled and not as thick. They can thin your hair out too.

That`s what my friend does, and all she has to do now is like blow dry it, and then straighten it with a straightener in only a few places [ bRuNeTtExdUdEtTe's advice column | Ask bRuNeTtExdUdEtTe A Question ]
MummuM answered Sunday August 15 2004, 9:24 pm: You should get a straight perm. Buy a perm kit at any hair store or shoppers or something. Do what it says on the side of the box but don't put the curlers in! =) [ MummuM's advice column | Ask MummuM A Question ]
