Ok, this is going to be kind of long because I need to give you all the details. I haven't always been overweight, but when I was finally aloud to stay home in the summer by myself, I started to get bigger. I couldn't go anywhere when my parents were home, so I sat and watched TV and ate constantly. Well, the big problem is that was about 6 years ago! Every year I say I'm going to finally lose weight, and I still haven't. Now I'm at least 30 pounds over-weight, and even though I love playing sports and being active, I also love to sit at home and eat the "tasty" foods. I am going to be a junior, and it is so hard to be an over-weight teen. I know all the stuff I need to do if I want to lose weight, but I just can't find my motivation to do it. Do any of you have advice to try help me? Please, I would really appreciate it.

Write down EVERYTHING that crosses your lips, food type, number of calories, fat grams, and carbs. That will show you where you cut out the excess. Also, try replacing some of your "tasty" foods with alternatives, like baked Doritos instead of regular Doritos. Yes, that sort of food tastes different, and sometimes not as good (sorry, have to be honest), but the difference in fat and calories can be substantial, and after a while, you won't even miss what you used to call "tasty" foods, or you can use them as a once-a-month incentive to stay focused on your diet. Don't totally cut any one thing, as carbs help your brain function, fat is needed to help send nerve impulses from your brain, and you need a certain amount of calories just to survive. k_l_v_g answered Tuesday August 10 2004, 10:52 am: you need WILL POWER...diets are always unsuccesful with out it...and if you want to lose weight WHY ARE YOU EATING JUNK FOOD? go to the store and buy healthy foods...fruits and vegies...and just cuz ur on a diet doesnt mean you totally have to give up junk food...buy lyk one container of low fat ice cream that you lyk for the week...a little sweets wont hurt sometimes...and also join a gym.!! instead of eating sweets go and grab yourself a salad..or something..healthy foods are good too...even tho its hard not to eat the junk..healthy foods can almost be as good as the junk foods! Mercy_x_Me answered Tuesday August 10 2004, 10:10 am: You need a nutritionist. They will tell you how you can loose wieght healthily and they will tell you the exact wieght you should be. Without them telling you what to do, having your own little diet could be risky. As far as motivation, look at yourself in the mirror. Is this who you want to be? So every time you go to eat junk food REMEMBER you've been trying to loose this wieght for years, and that you want to be in control. Thinking all these things constantly should get you motivated and into gear. And think of it this way.. the longer you hold out... the more wieght you'll gain and the harder it will be for you when you do actually start.
xxxxxx answered Tuesday August 10 2004, 8:47 am: You need to go to a gym and workout. Do some cardio for AT LEAST 40 minutes straight. Especially running on a treadmill. Summer's almost over so you won't be eating that much during school... [ xxxxxx's advice column | Ask xxxxxx A Question ]
AllyKnows answered Tuesday August 10 2004, 8:33 am: I'm in the same situation as you. I am definitly overweight and it sucks but lately the pounds are decresing. I started marching band so that's my excersise..what you should do is just get out of the house everyday..do something if it's a short distance walk there. And when you are home eating a meal, don't have seconds or large portions and don't eat anything else until the next meal. If you just ate meals, and went out with friends to do stuff that includes a little excersise that should help you a bit. Also, it wouldn't hurt to go running or walking after eating to kinda burn off the food. This i've been doing for about 2 weeks and i've lost 8 lbs. Good Luck. sarcasticgal1221 answered Tuesday August 10 2004, 8:15 am: Work out with friends.
Maybe talk to your parents about helping you. Have your mom buy less food and more healthy snacks. Have them enforce a TV-watching limit for you. Or, set a schedule for yourself, where for every hour that you work out, you can watch a half hour of TV.
While youre watching TV, so exercise such as push ups or cruches.
alisonmarie answered Tuesday August 10 2004, 6:14 am: My biggest motivation (I've lost 24 pounds so far) has been to think about the health problems that come with being overweight. There is an increased risk for all sorts of diseases and complications as you get older, and I like living too much to chance it.
In the short term, think about all the stuff your body does for you. If you love playing sports, think about how much easier it will be to run around when you are 30 pounds lighter.
I'd go to the store and pick up a bag of sugar - they're about 2.5 pounds. Pick up enough of them to see what ten extra pounds is like. Carry them around with you for a minute. When you finally put them down, notice how good it feels to be lighter. More free.

Dont_Fall_Twice answered Tuesday August 10 2004, 3:59 am: Well you're going to have to find the motivation in yourself. YOU have to REALLY want it. REALLY REALLY. It always helped me looking at skinny beaitiful models... LOL... Yeah, Im a dork. But I'd put pictures of skinny models in bakinis on my fridge or pantry. Also, track what you eat, and how much you exercise. Maybe make a sheet on your computer for each week, or just write it on notebook paper. -EXAMPLE: Monday: For breakfast I had 2 eggs scrambles, Lunch a ham and cheese sandwich, had cheese and crackers for snack, and had a ceaser salad for dinner. I jogged for 20 mins, and swam 40 laps after dinner. Before I went to bed i did 50 crunches.- Then at the end of the week... Check your weight. If it went up, check what you ate, how much you exercised and improve. It works. :) Try when you're hungry to eat healthy, or smaller pertions. Best wishes.
