jumping

Question Posted Monday August 9 2004, 7:13 pm

I didn't know where to put this question, but anyway, I can ride horses bareback very well and I jump horses very well (with a saddle of course). Think I would get hurt if I tried jumping without a saddle? I've never fell off a horse bareback, and I flatout gallop them. Just wonderin.

If everything goes well, jumping bareback could be perfectly safe. However, sticking to a saddle for jumping is better. Saddles help spread out your weight and most horses (unless your horse is like COMPLETELY bombprood) will not like it if you slam down on their back after a jump. I know my horse would probably unseat me and go galloping around the arena if I slammed down hard enough.

Well it is quite a lurch when jumping so you should at least try getting very used to it before jumping like that... I think you should ask a trainer. And never forget to wear a helmet!

It all depends. If you can gallop around bareback and you trust your horse i would do it! i have a horse and i ride him bareback all the time and i think it would be really fun to jump bareback. Whatever you do i would start out jumping small stuff and then work your way up higher. Hope i helped and hope everything workes out.. you can im me and tell me what happens

I'd stick with the saddle. I've galloped a horse bareback [[ and jumped VERY small things - unintentionally - ]], and it just doesn't seem like it'd be terribly safe to do any jumping without a saddle.
