xo_onefineday_xo answered Monday January 24 2005, 7:32 pm: to fear the lord means to see him as the highest and most powerful this verse means a woman who lives for the lord is to be praised...but remember the only thing that is true is the word of god so dont take me word for it for only the word of god is the truth [ xo_onefineday_xo's advice column | Ask xo_onefineday_xo A Question ]
Imari answered Monday November 22 2004, 10:35 pm: the popular opinion is that fear was sort of an off translation that actually means love and respect ... but I think that's just new age bull and that yes we should truly fear this vengeful and non benevolent being [ Imari's advice column | Ask Imari A Question ]

I think a lot of people today have the sense of God as an always-nice fairy-godmother type of figure. You ask God for something, and God will give it to you. Let the Red Sox beat the Yankees. Let me pass my math test tomorrow. Make this guy like me. Whatever. We've lost the sense of awe for God, respect for God. God's become sort of a good-luck charm, a wishing well.
I guess this was a problem in ancient times, too. We were supposed to maintain a sense of reverence, of awe, of respect for the Lord. (That's part of what not taking the Lord's name in vain means, too. Don't use it lightly.) We can't presume to be able to control God with our own wants and needs--instead, we need to bend ourselves to the Lord's will. [ tiwonge's advice column | Ask tiwonge A Question ]

Mercy_x_Me answered Tuesday August 10 2004, 10:31 am: Fearing the lord is not the fear your thinking of not like omg its god *hide*. Not like that, to be Godfearing is to understand how powerful and mighty god is, and not to fear him so much, but to understand he CAN do anything and WILL b/c hes that powerful. Its just a note to how powerful he is really.
Fish answered Monday August 9 2004, 11:40 pm: When the Bible says "Fear the Lord" it's not talking about wrath ans so forth. Basically, it means respect, worship, and all that. All the verse is saying is not to be vain because you're looks won't last forever, but if you trust in God, you'll be rewarded (the reward being heaven.). Anarchilist answered Monday August 9 2004, 8:15 pm: I dont get why people dont fear the Boogieman, but fear "THE LORD" I mean come on neither of them have been proven to exist, just because an old story book tells you about this sadistic being called "THE LORD" it doesnt mean that you have to believe it [ Anarchilist's advice column | Ask Anarchilist A Question ]
Just_Being_True answered Monday August 9 2004, 6:19 pm: hey lol that is funny i was just reading that bible verse the other day....But there are plenty of reasons why we should fear the lord...
The lord has power over are whole being...i mean he controls when we are born and when we die....i would be scared of someone who controlled all that.
And you know it doesn't mean fear...like scared of spiders fear...it just means that you need to know that he has greater power of you. And that you should be scared..or more stand in awe of the things that he can do!!!
xxxxxx answered Monday August 9 2004, 4:17 pm: fear of the Lord doesn't mean you're actually "afraid" of the lord. It means that you see him as like, the "highest being" and whatnot. [ xxxxxx's advice column | Ask xxxxxx A Question ]
