What exactly is Libertarianism? I live in an all-Republican house, so its very hard to get unbiased opinions on anything. Also, what are some websites?

AngelofMusic answered Tuesday October 26 2004, 1:12 am: Libertarianism catagorises people who are usually Democrats, like John Kerry. They are less old fashoned and for more modern issues, like they are for abortion, stem-cell research, and gay marrage (civil unions). They are also against war although Kerry isn't going to back out of the war, he doesn't call himself a "war president" like Bush has numerously refered to himself as. Also, they care more about middle and lower classes, as Conservatives (republicans) tend to care about the upper class (giving them tax cuts). Conservatives also tend to be more relegious, thats why they are against gay marrage etc. [ AngelofMusic's advice column | Ask AngelofMusic A Question ]

Libertarians tend to be very conservative economically and politically, and very liberal socially. The best of both worlds in my opinion. The maker of this website is a libertarian. The John Birch society, while not technically affiliated with the libertarian party has strong connections that way. Try Googling them. [ Deanimal's advice column | Ask Deanimal A Question ]
AdviceMistress answered Tuesday August 10 2004, 10:21 pm: Libertarianism is, as the name implies, the belief in liberty. Libertarians strive for the best of all worlds - a free, peaceful, abundant world where each individual has the maximum opportunity to pursue his or her dreams and to realize his full potential.
The core idea is simply stated, but profound and far-reaching in its implications. Libertarians believe that each person owns his own life and property, and has the right to make his own choices as to how he lives his life - as long as he simply respects the same right of others to do the same.
Another way of saying this is that libertarians believe you should be free to do as you choose with your own life and property, as long as you don't harm the person and property of others.
Libertarianism is thus the combination of liberty (the freedom to live your life in any peaceful way you choose), responsibility (the prohibition against the use of force against others, except in defense), and tolerance (honoring and respecting the peaceful choices of others).
Live and let live. The Golden Rule. The non-initiation of force.
Libertarians believe that this combination of personal and economic liberty produces abundance, peace, harmony, creativity, order, and safety. Indeed, that is one of the central lessons of world history. Virtually all the progress the human race has enjoyed during the past few centuries is due to the increasing acceptance of these principles. But we are still far from a truly libertarian world. Libertarians believe we would see far more progress, abundance and happiness if the ideas of liberty were fully accepted and allowed to work their miracles.
Our goal as libertarians is to bring liberty to the world, so that these wonderful and proven ideas can be put into action. This will make our world a far better place for all people.
If this interests you, please explore the material at this site. Evaluate these ideas. Kick their tires and take them for an intellectual "test drive."
We hope you will join us in embracing this ideal -- and in taking a stand to personally help bring about a world of liberty, abundance and peace.

Libertarians want smaller government at all costs. They don't believe in income taxes. They think laws should exist only to protect us from dangerous people, so murder should obviously be illegal, but smoking pot shouldn't, because you're not hurting anybody but yourself. I'd encourage you to check out [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) for more information. There's even a quiz you can take to find out if you're a libertarian: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) [ spacefem's advice column | Ask spacefem A Question ]

All opinions are biased because they're what people think. You're gunna get their view on the issue and everyone is bias about what they think. Anyway, libertarianism is essentially let people do whatever the hell they want as long as it doesn't infringe on other people's rights. It has some good points, but not enough. Plus it has a lot of bad ones. Like they support gay sex and abortion,a lot of things that republicans like me don't. [ kevin1986's advice column | Ask kevin1986 A Question ]
