i play drum set and it's fun, but i never really want to practice or have a lesson. people are always saying "that's so cool it must be so fun to practice" but i get bored. my parents say that if i want to i can take a year off or something, but i think if i do they might get mad or think that i want to quit or something. I also think that if i take a year of or something my teacher will think i want to quit, or maybe i'll decide to quit! i don't know. should i just stick with it or take a risk and take a year off?I DON'T WANT TO DISSAPPOINT ANYONE, INCLUDING MYSELF!
Also, do you play in a band of any kind? Perhaps if you don't, you should consider trying a band situation. I always recommend jazz, as it encourages improvisation and communication between the players - it is a great way to expand what you know and moreso how to really play well with others. Ronlina answered Monday August 9 2004, 2:50 am: Well, think about it. If this is really something you like to do, then just because you're stopping the lessons doesn't mean you're necessarily quitting altogether. Maybe the lessons bore you. That's happened to me before, and after I hit a certain point I just had to go it on my own for a while. It's not really a 'risk' to take a year off from lessons if you're going to continue to play for yourself. That's why you play, anywho. For yourself, not for your teacher or parents. Just have fun playing drums and that's all that matters. [ Ronlina's advice column | Ask Ronlina A Question ]

Siren_Cytherea answered Saturday August 7 2004, 10:05 pm: Oh, I can so relate to you. I play flute...kind of. When I first started, I was so into it, and I was like...REALLY good. Like, a professional who only taught college students and up took me on when I was 12.
It's up to you whether you want to take a year off, or if you really want to quit.
I stopped taking lessons because they were stressing me out, and now I miss it, but I wouldn't be able to handle it.
Don't worry about dissappointing anyone. Think about what you really want to do. Your parents should not have any say in what you do or don't do with this, and they need to know that. The drumming issue has to be YOURS, and you've gotta decide what to do with it. If you take a year off, you may discover that you miss it and want to go back to it. Or not *Shrug*
If you don't you may get increasingly bored with it and your drumming may die out anyway. Or you could end up deciding you want to keep going with it. There's really no saying what'll happen...
I hope this helped!

If it's fun maybe this is something you want to stick with.. just to enjoy.. you'll have it still so if you stop lessons, u can jam on ti and see if it's really something u want to take lessons for.. u can always go back to lessons anytime.. as long as ur parents agree.. is ur name Jon by any chance? lol E-mail me
Dont_Fall_Twice answered Saturday August 7 2004, 7:39 pm: Umm, I think you should do what you want to do. If its boring for you it might not be the thing for you. Maybe you should find something that you do enjoy alot. And if you do enjoy drums, maybe hook up with a band... maybe that will help you enjoy it more... Playing with people is always nice :) Good-Luck -Britty- [ Dont_Fall_Twice's advice column | Ask Dont_Fall_Twice A Question ]
crystal200022us answered Saturday August 7 2004, 7:15 pm: Well, honestly, I think you should stick with it especially if you don't want to disappoint anybody. I remember when I was in school and I played the clarinet. I got sick of practicing too but I just kept at it. If you really think you need to take a year off then do but my honest opinion is that if you do you just might not want to go back after a year and if you like playing the drums then I say keep at it. I hope this helps and good luck!
