Question Posted Saturday August 7 2004, 12:52 am

Can having sex and being sexually active set your period back? This may be a stupid question but i've heard from people that it can..?

The only actual physical reason your periods would be set back would be due to pregnancy. Aside from that little nine month setback, you might be experiencing stress due to your choice to have sex at this age or with a particular person - stress, along with not eating right or exercising too much, can affect your menstrual cycle.

Another issue to consider is how regular your menstrual cycle is/was before you have/had sex. Sex isn't going to suddenly make your entire body change its normal rhythms, but it will and does affect your emotional health.

To be straight out: Yes it can. Doing sexual things sets your horomones and inside clock into a weird direction. But it eventually goes back to normalcy.

Well, the people that told you that it can is right. In fact, when I became sexually active a long time ago my period would be as late as 2 weeks maybe a little more. I hope this helps!
