Can I sing?

Question Posted Monday August 2 2004, 11:34 am

I just started chours this year in school. My friends have told me that my music teacher will make you sing in front of the WHOLE class to see if you can be a soloist. I like to sing but I don't know if I have a good voice! I don't want to be humiliated in front of everyone! What should I do?

I heard that you cover up your ear or fold it while you sing, you can hear yourself. You can also try singing on the computer's recorder. Other than that, I think she wants to see if you get stage fright or not.

Take some lessons, and they can give you some tips. Nobody really pays any attention to anyone else, though, and nobody'll like, laugh or anything, so don't worry about it, I'm sure you'll be just fine!

pretend that they aren't there.
we used to have to sing kind of in front of everyone. no one paid any attention to what was going on.
even if you don't make soloist, you are doing something you like to do, so just have fun with it. good luck!! send me a message if you need something else!

Chorus rocks!

Maybe you could talk to your music teacher/instructer after class if you want to know how your voice compares to others'. Just remember that the more you practise the better you get, and the shower walls don't care a smidgen what you sound like!

Hun just go for it. I was in the same thing you are in last year. I didn't want anyone judging me because i was afraid to sing in front of my chours class because i didn't think my voice was PREFECT! well i just went for it and i made 1st soloist. Either way if you win or lose you have conquered your fear of stage fright. Good luck sweetie!

sing for your parents or someone who would tell you the truth if you had a good voice or not and then if they say you do then sing for them i was in the same position as your in i had to sing infront of the WHOLE school and dance it was a solo too and i was shaking the whole time but i finally got over my fears and people said i did a really good job...so just ask people that would give you an honest answer

Just get up and do it, everything will go fine :o) You won't be humiliated because everyone is going to be nervous about the same fears you have. Just practice your little heart out until you have to do it..Practice makes Perfect! Good luck!

Just sing. Don't be afraid to fail. If you fail then at least you can say that you tried. Life is too short to be afraid to try something. You joined chorus because you like to sing, and if it involves singing in front of the whole class, well then go with the flow. My friends at my youth group tried to get me to sing in front of like two other churches and well I was afraid at first, but i did it, and well, everyone loved it. So, I mean the least you can do is try. you may be the next big singing sensation, you never know till you try. hope I helped

Talk to your teacher and tell him your fears. He can't make you sing if you really don't want to.
