GC_rox_my_sox answered Saturday April 10 2004, 4:32 pm: I do Pilates regularly, and some of it is very helpful for the thigh/leg area. Do leg lifts by lying on your side and kicking straight up, or lay on your side and make circles with your legs. Swimming is also very good for toning your leg muscles. Return your leg back to your side without letting either leg touch one another and lift it again in the same motion. Do this continually until you start to feel slight pain in your muscles. Also, you can do wall-sits where you pretend to "sit" on a wall while keeping your legs at a 90 degree angle

I have never understood the need for a gym anyway. Running, jogging, stretching, karate endurance-training (kicks, punches, stretches, stances) and aerobics are all effective and all right to do at home.
As to thighs, leg-lifts (lying on your side and lifting one leg straight) help the thigh and butt--and I know personally that there's nothing like a karate horse stance to cause lots of fun pain. A horse stance requires you to move your feet apart a bit farther than your shoulders and crouch down as if you're riding a horse--back straight, as low as you can and as long as you can. Usually you do this while practicing punches. It works, too.
Look up exercises online and you will get much more interesting and helpful answers. [ koshii's advice column | Ask koshii A Question ]

It is the least dignified exercise there is but it works.
Go down on all fours like a dog and raise your bent leg as though you were a dog about to wee on a lampost. Repetitions of 5 sets of 10 on each leg.
