He left me, but now he's trying to get me back.

Question Posted Thursday February 12 2004, 11:36 pm

My ex fiencee, Tim, left me two days before my birthday. He left me at the worst time of my life. Since then we haven't talked much...and now he suddenly shows up and tries to apologize. I am so angry with him, but I still love him very very much. I want to hate him...I really do...but I can't. When he left, I started getting my life back into order, although it'd fall apart right after. I have a boyfriend now, but he means next to nothing to me. I don't want to let Tim hurt me again. He'd been my best friend for three years before we started a relationship.

*Alone by nature*

In this situation you have to dig inside yourself what does your heart want? if you follow your heart your sure to find the right answer. Theres someone out there for you. i dont think its your boyfriend or your ex so i think you need to dump your boyfriend and not get back with your ex. Your true love is bound to come along soon.

Go on with your life. If Tim left you before your b-day, he's no good. Keep going. It'll get better. Stay as friends but nothing more.

DO NOT under ANY circumstances get back together with Tim. It sounds like you know what he did was wrong, so I don't have to say that. If you get back together it'll be only a string of breaking-up and getting-back-together. End the cycle BEFORE it starts.

Ok. Stay guy-less for a while. We can be pains at times. Just dump your boyfriend but stay friends with Tim. Get your life in order and then do what you think is best.

Do not get back together with Tim. He is immature and cannot make a commitment, either to you or to himself. Break up with the boyfriend who means nothing to you, because you are wasting your time. You do not need a boyfriend.

If you are planning to break up with your boyfriend...don't do it just yet. Get to know Tim again and regain trust with each other. Maybe your thoughts on him AND your boyfriend will change once you sit down and talk with him about everything...about why he left, about what's been going on...

Don't go into a relationship with Tim JUST because you have feelings for him still. I know that sounds strange...but he hurt you and you should be able to trust him again before you guys become a couple -

The question is do you love him. Im sure you have realized Love isn't easy because its a mizure of good and bad emotions. And ask yourself do you want to spend the rest of yourself with a friend or with someone you love.

alpha answered Friday February 13 2004, 1:16 pm:
You don't say why he left you, why he came back, or why he thinks you guys can make it work any better this time around. Has he even offered you any of this information? And is it believable? (Incidentally, "Because I was a fool and then I realized how much I missed you" is NOT an adequate explanation.) If not, you shouldn't even consider getting back together with him -- you haven't solved the underlying problems, and therefore you're just setting yourself up to be hurt again.

(And you know, you don't have to hate him if you don't want to. Maybe he's a total jerk for the way he acted, and maybe he ultimately doesn't have the character to make you happy -- but you can still remember him as someone who was a good part of your life for a long time, even though you've moved on now. Finding that kind of peace is hard, but worth it.)

Also, I have to ask why you're with a boyfriend who "means next to nothing" to you. You sign yourself 'Alone by nature," but it sounds like you're awfully scared of being by yourself. It might not be the worst thing in the world for you to try being single and independent for a little while: you've been through a lot, and maybe it would help you to focus on YOU, rather than on some guy who's just there to fill space. The more confident and self-sufficient you are, the better your chances are of having a healthy, caring relationship with someone who will treat you decently.

Are you asking if you should go back to Tim? Cause if so, my response would be emphatically, definitely, completely no. There's 5,999,999,999 other people on this planet other than him, and they haven't screwed you over yet. Go talk to some of them.

Dump your boyfriend if he means nothing. It just sucks for him because you got him excited...

As for Tim...why did he dump you two days before your birthday? Unless you two had problems or something, that was just wrong of him.

Getting over a boyfriend can be hard, but dwelling over it isn't going to help either.

(bah, i'm tired...if something doesn't make sense, bleh.)
