I'm a poet, writer, music buff, techno-geek, freak, and all-around strange bird. I am prone to making strange comments from time to time.

I will hopefully be answering questions dealing with Tech, love and relationships, psychology/mental illness, music, city life, transportation, and anything else I feel I can contribute to.

I'm hard-hitting, come across as a self-absorbed a## occasionally, am very blunt, and pull no punches. Thusly, take my advice with a grain of salt... I'm working off of my own experiences and some reasearch (through the years and for each question). Everything is my own opinion and I am not responsible for whether my advice works for you, or not.

Questions not to ask me:
Should I have sex? (Do it when YOU feel ready, and please... be safe.)
Should I kill myself? (No. Think of the people who have to clean up your dead body.)
What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? (Watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail for your answer).

So, there we go. If you wish to know more, e-mail me at the above address.

well I am having trouble in my 7th grade math class and my grandma wants me to get a touter. She has been buging me for ever and to me if I get a totour I will feel stupid so.. Should I or should I not get a totour. (link)
To make you feel a bit better about the whole tutor thing.. I'm 26, in college, and still getting tutored in maths.

No worries, it's not a bad thing.

My boyfriend calls himself a Christian but doesn't go to church. I'm not a religious fanatic or anything, actually I'm pretty liberal and my church is too, but he's still really reluctant to go to church with me. He seems to really dislike organized religion. I understand where he's coming from, but he won't even give my church a chance... we're really cool. I'd love it if he'd go to church with me, I think it'd be fun, and frankly it freaks me out that he's so afraid to try new things. What do you think? (link)
Going to Church, or not, does not make one Christian. Believing that Jesus Christ is the son of God and the saviour of man is what makes one Christian.

If he doesn't feel comfortable in church, that's fine. A lot of people don't.

Is it better to dance and look really stupid or not dance at all? Should I try taking danceing lessons? (link)
dance the way you want to dance. Dance is an expression of the self.

Is it wrong to copy software to your computer that you don't pay for? (link)
legally, yes.. It is called "Pirating" and is a breach of 99.9% of copywrite laws, and the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copywrite Act).

You could get into serious trouble over this.
99% of the time you won't... but you can.

Not to mention, if noone pays for the programs, how do the programmers eat? =)

I'm on my period and have really awful cramps. What's the best drug to take? Aspirin? Tylenol? I'm tempted to just take them all. (link)
alleve (naproxen sodium), or ibuprofen (advil, motrin). I've been told by several female friends that these work wonders.

I got my period 2 days before school started hwich was september secound, I got my period August 31st, And it sbeen coming like the first of every month and I've had it for about 3 months now, and then all of a sudden its already the 6th of december and it hasnt come yet. . is this normal. . I ams till a virgin!!! I havent had sex or anything!! Please help! (link)
it's normal.
Everything from stress, to just being alive, can change the regularity/time of your periods.

I have to drink coffee every day to survive. I don't drink a ton of it, probably two cups a day in the morning. My friends and I used to have a day we'd call "detox thursday" where we wouldn't drink coffee all day, but I was starting to hate detox thursdays because I felt tired and grumpy all day so I quit doing it with them. Does this mean I'm addicted? Is coffee really that bad for me? It's way better than soda, right? (link)
Yes, this likely means your body is addicted to caffiene. Not coffee, caffiene (something in coffee). My suggestion? Start drinking more decaf coffee.

When you put your grounds in the coffeemaker of a morning, put a bit of decaf in, in place of some of the regular. Increase the amount of decaf every few days, until it's all decaf.

If you buy coffee from stores, order part decaf/regular. OR, if you drink more than one, let your last cup or two be decaf, and increase the amount of decaf cups you drink until they all are.

At this point in time, I am almost the most I have ever weighed. It's not fat or anything, but I think 140 pounds is too big for my height. My parents don't want me to go on a diet because they fear I'll become anorexic or obsessed. I run, so I know I'm getting enough physical exercise. What can I do? (link)
ah, you run.
You're athletic.
You have some muscle, right?

Remember, muscle weighs abour 3.5 times more than fat does. Do you think you look fat? It's all in how you look, NOT in what that scale says.

Example: Someoen the same height as you may weigh 130lbs, but look chunkier and more "fat" than you do at 140lbs, because their weight comes mostly from fat and not from muscle.

get the idea? =)

My friends and I sometimes make ourselves throw up like if we eat a really big meal and don't want to get fat from it. It's not bad, we're not anorexic or anything, and I know a ton of people who do it. But this one girl at our school found out and is like freaking out about it... how do we let her know it's okay? (link)
You don't let her know it is okay, because it is not okay. Throwing up after eating is not anorexia, it is called Bulemia. Constantly making yourself throw up (or even after just "big" meals) can cause serious health problems later in life (and sometimes sooner), including esophogeal hernia, stomach polyps, colon polyps, stomach problems, ulcers, acid reflux, etc.. etc..

Also, trust me, those "big" meals, keep getting smaller and smaller (you'll start considering smaller and smaller meals "big").

Even a HUGE meal (till you're so full your stomach hurts) every once in a while will not make you fat. Repeated eating of very high sugar, very high carbohydrates, very high fat content may cause you to gain weight... but it's not how much you eat in one sitting, it's WHAT you eat.

Eat a fairly balanced diet and you should be fine. Remember, your weight WILL go up and down as you grow, that's NORMAL. It'll get to it's more normal weight as you get to be around 20 or so. At that point, if you feel you need to loose a few pounds, concentrate on normal diets, rather than making yourself throw up.

Don't cause yourself health problems later on... because trust me, the ones from making yourself throw up can be much worse than having a few extra pounds.

I like to run around town in my favorite running shoes, not wearing socks. This is cool because it's relaxing, but not cool because my shoes smell like the living dead. I really, really don't want to wear socks, so besides that, what can I do to cure these things? (link)
"cedar socks"
They sell them in shoe stores. They are cedar in a fabric tube. Roll it between your hands to activate and stick in shoe, then place in cool dry place for 24 hours before wearing again.
EVERY time.

Make your own by getting cedar cage lining for hamster cages and some tube socks. Pour cage cedar into tube sock, tie off/sew closed. Same as above.

Can you buy birth control pills over the counter or do I need a doctor's prescription before I can get it? (link)
yes, a scrip is required and for good reason. There are health risks (though they are rare) associated with the pill.

Remember, though, there are many different alternatives to the pill, including: norplant (implant in the upper arm, good for five years), Depo (The Shot) (a shot, every three months), The Patch (a seven day patch, like a stop-smoking patch).

Get a good gynocologist and check with them.

My daughter is currently 13 years old. She's fairly mature and doesn't dress slutty. Now, she has liked this guy for about half a year. Today, he asked her out. They want to go see a movie with another couple their age on monday. I don't know if I should let her go. What is your stance on this? Is 13 too young to be dating? (link)
I'm 26 and not a parents, but my advice is yes, let her go.. Though I might stick to either double-dates or chaparoned dates for a while. (Note: The chaparone does not have to stay right with them, just in the same area, or require a check-in every hour or two).

Also, watch her fairly closely, if she starts slacking, acting less mature, dressing differently, etc... sit down and have a talk.

Oh, and of course now would be a good time for The Protection Talk... just in case.

What's the best thing to mix with vodka? (link)
I'm surprised noone else posted this.

The Internet Bartender (www.webtender.com)

It allows you to search for drinks based off of one ingredient (i.e. vodka).

My parents were divorced about 7 years ago. I am in my 30s. I feel like the holidays are a job because we have to go so many different places in one day, and worst of all, eat.
I wish I could rent out 2 adjacent ballrooms and have Christmas. It stresses me out. I have tried saying, ok, your house for Thanksgiving and your house for Christmas. This year I made Thanksgiving dinner, but my father forgot or just didn't bother to care. I did visit him the Friday after, which was fun. Mom and brother did come. Brother is also making the grand rounds with his family.
How could this be easier other than purposefully being out of town? (link)
Christmas at your house, and tell them you won't be making the rounds that year. Have EVERYONE come to your house for Christmas eve, or Christmas day. Make it plain that if they do not show they will not be seeing you that year, as you are getting worn out and not enjoying your holidays going back and forth.

Then, go ALL OUT on Christmas at your place. Decorations, tree, food, EVERYTHING. Make sure they know what you're doing.
