Can anyone explain to me what McDonaldization theory is? Like what is the concept of it? I would prefer someone to answer this on previous knowledge & to not just google this, thanks. 5*

Everything is becoming standardized and branded. Chain companies are taking over and crushing smaller, independent businesses and small communities. For example, there is now a Target or Walmart in pretty much every town. Nobody goes to a small, family owned business anymore, because they don't have to. All of these chains (Walmart, McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, Macy's, Speedway, Mobil) are run the exact same way across the country. That is like one of the main parts of McDonaldization, "regulation." They make it so easy to work at places like McDonald's, that the workers need little to no training, so vitually anyone can do the job. All you have to do is press the "hamburger" button. This is how they "take over." Anyone, anywhere, of any age can do the job, they often don't even have to speak english; and when each one operates the same, that means a lot less work is involved in opening/running new stores/restaurants, etc., so they are able to spread like wilfire. Small communities are being ruined by highways and Walmart. We spend a long time on "McDonaldization" is my college sociology class last semester... that is just a part of it, but i think "chains ruining everything" is kind of the main idea

hope this helped.

so i had sex last night and we only realised this morning that one of the condoms we used had broken at the end.. So we decided to get the morning after pill.. I'm just really worried! This has never happened to me and so i'm totally lost! What do i do? And like what are the side effects of this pill? If any.. Will it affect my body physically, like i'd get wider hips and look a little fatter? Please help me asap. I'm freaking out!! :(

if you took the pill this morning and followed the directions, you will be fine. with any pill, there are side effects. it might make you bleed and other than that there is probably a possibility of nausea and stuff like that, you'd have to read the box.. And no, it will not effect your body or you hips. Don't freak out. You did the right thing and it'll be fine.

im currently a size 7 in jeans and because i've worked at a restaurant the past two years i've gained around ten pounds even though i have a really fast metabolism, so i even have to squeeze into a 7 now. i want to trim down to a 5, maybe even a 3. im pear-shaped and my hips/thighs are definitely the biggest part of me. how can i slim my hips and thighs so i can go down a size or two? i dont drink any soda products, and i'm trying to eat healthier and not eat so much fried stuff. i have no access to a gym and i cant buy any equiptment. all i have is 8 pound dumbbells and im not a fan of running. i work out a little here and there but i'd like more drastic results. how can i achieve this? specific exercises to get leaner and more toned without bulky muscle? thanks.

Sounds like you are on the right track with the eating. Cut the fried stuff out, or at least to a minimum. Try to eat regularly throughout the day - like 5-6 mini meals. That is the most effective way to lose weight. Try the special k products. Cereal, Special K bars and crunchy things (dont know what else to call them haha). Like, try starting out your day with a Special K bar. They help you lose weight and they don't taste like crap. As far as exercising, there are TV shows that show you exercises. I'm not sure what channels you get, but you can find listings online. Also, you can download workouts from youtube.
Good luck!

I really want auburn hair. My natural color is a dark brown.

I want to try henna from mehandi.com, but I recently bleached my bangs and dyed it.

And over half a year ago, I did a lot more to it and after it had faded, I tried to dye it dark brown. But some parts didn't really take the brown very well. It looks a bit green in some parts. And different shades of brown on the top. More noticeable in the sun, but I'm wondering if that'll change the outcome of the henna?

And would I have to do more than one application for it to work?

Have you used henna before? My hair dresser told me that she dyed a girl who had used henna's hair and it turned green and that you aren't supposed to use henna on dyed hair. My mom used to use henna and then she got her hair dyed by a natural colorist and surprisingly, it didn't turn green. So, i wouldn't use henna on bleached or dyed hair. Maybe try some other kind of natural dye, or a natural colorist.

I recently just discovered that right between my breasts there is a lump, and it really hurts. Its under the skin. Its extremely sore, especially when i touch it. When i touch it, or somebody else does...it feels like the wind was knocked out of me. About six months ago i had a pilodinal cyst (sp?) and im not sure if it is another type of cyst. I cannot lay on my stomache because it is too painful, and i cant stretch certain ways either.

Has any of you ever had this? Please explain to me and put my mind at ease.

16/f btw.

thank you

You need to see a doctor.

But, i have heard that cancerous bumps, lumps, etc. are usually not painful, so that might help put your mind at ease a bit.

I wish i could help more, but this is something where you really need to see a dr.

Good luck!

My life has taken a bit of a spin. I accidently did not sign for my FAFSA.. so i did not have money for college(it would have paid about 3/4 of the total). I dont know if there is any other way i could get it. im guessing not. but now that i have a full time job that is in the middle of the day i dont have much options to take classes at our local community college where attended while in high school. So i have been looking into online colleges but never ever thought i would be interested in online college. and now i have no idea which one or whats the difference or how do i know im going to pick the right one or the right classes?! i submitted info from i think phoneix university. I would like to be a teacher.(k-12) i do have pervious experince in the class room.. but i dont know what people think about online colleges or really how it works. please tell me anything you know. thank you sooooo muccch! and happy thanks giving!

What you could do is take some online classes now, so that you can do your job and class. Take a semester or two online. Then, for next year, make sure you get your FAFSA taken care of, so that you can go to college like you want to. Just make sure the online courses will transfer to your college, because sometimes they don't. You could try going to freecareerinfo.com, they will send you information and have a representative call you and help you get set up and tell you everything you need ot know about going to college online. University of phoenix is probably a good way to go too. I know what you mean, employers might not be too thrilled by an online degree. That's why you should take online classes now while you don't have the aid you need and then once you get your aid, go to a regular university. You might also want to see if your local community college has night courses that would work with your schedule, becaust most do.
Good luck!

help, please read all the way through.
i care alot about my appearance and how i present myself. i don't like my nose. it's okay, but at one angle [from the right], it's a little indented because i broke my nose playing soccer. so i want to know is there a such thing as a fake nose[like plastic or something] i could wear, or strong makeup to hide the dent? im kind of pretty but when people look at me at that angle, i feel so ugly. i can't have surgery on it till im a little older. . .

thanks in advance, id rate any help :)

I doubt there is any type of fake nose you can wear. And if there was, it would probably look worse than a small dent. Your best bet, for now is probably to wear makeup. You can wear any type of concealer or foundation to cover it up and make it less noticeable. If you really can't stand it, you can get surgery as early as 14 or 15 assuming you're a girl.. (and probably a little later if you're a boy.) Remember though, that we are our own worst critic. These small flaws that seem like a huge deal to us and make us self concious are usually not even noticeable to other people. =]

my friend and i both want to buy twilight shirts from hot topic, they're $22 each. how much is shipping and handling for hot topic? and would the shipping be cheaper if we bought them seperately or together in the same order? thank youuuu.

I don't know how much their shipping is, but if you go to their website, add the shirts to your basket and click "check out," it will tell you how much shipping is before you buy it. It will be cheaper to get buy them and get them shipped together. That would be your best bet.
Hope this helps!

I can't figure out some of these log problems. I asked my teacher for help yesterday and she gave me some quick, vague information and i still don't how to do some of them. Oh, and don't tell me to go read my text book, because we don't have one. Does anyone know how to do these?

log9(x + 2)= 0 X=?
oh, and the 9 is actually base 9.

logbase6(x+9) + logbase6 x=2 x=?

anyone know??
thanks.

to work at dunkin donuts part time, how many hours a day would you work? and how many days a week woul you work? and what would you do at dunkins?

Generally, part time means less than 20 hours a week. How many days you work and for how long would totally depend. There aren't really rules that say how many days or how many hours in one day you have to work, that's more up to you and your employer. It just depends on how long their shifts are, when they need people and stuff like that. The only law is that you work less than 20 hours a week. I've never worked at Dukin Donuts, but there are people who work the counter, ringing people up and getting their donuts and other food/drinks, people make smoothies, people cook donuts, some people clean and if there is a drive thru, people work the drive thru- stuff like that.

I am getting my hair hilighted with blonde streaks this saurday. My color right now is medium brown. I am scared to see how it will turn out though. My friends say they like it the way it is. I am scared that it will be a drastic change and i am scared to see if my boyfriend will like it. I don't want everybody to say they like it. I know i shouldn't care what people think but i do and thats just me. My boyfriend is very important to me and i don't want him to say "oh yeah, i like it." but in his mind say " i like it better the other way." I don't know what to do. I don't want to not like it either though.

If you don't like it and other people don't like it, you can always change it back. Besides, it's not like you're dying your whole head a different color. Highlights are usually pretty subtle, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have an interview tomorrow with A & F. I've actually been on an interview with them before. I know they do group interviews and I think they probably ask the same questions. I remember they asked about diversity and what it means to you and why you want to work there. Does anybody else who has been on an interview with them remember what the other questions were? Thank youu.

They ask you what diversity means to you and why you think it is important in the work place, they ask you why you would be good for the position, a time when you worked really well with another person(s), and to describe a & f style.

I am taking my road test in a few days, and I want to know how I can prepare myself to not be so nervous on the road.

I have driven my required 50 hours with my parents, and I feel very confident, but I just want to make sure that I don't get nervous, because I get nervous about everything.

Any long-time drivers out there who have some advice on how to remain relaxed and calm at the wheel, but still very alert?

Thank you!

Well i took my road test two years ago and something everyone told me (including drivers ed teachers) was to make sure that you look in your mirrors before making a lane change, turn, or stop and make sure they see you checking the mirrors. They asked me two questions during my test and my friends were asked the same questions. They ask if you have to run into something, would you run into something like a tree or bush and say you'd run into something soft like a bush. Then he asked what i would do when crossing a railroad, which is kind of a stupid questions, but i said i would just be very careful and pay attention to all the signs, etc. Another thing, be careful about no turn on reds and stuff like that. My friend automatically failed for turning right on red when there was a "no turn on red" sign. Other than that, just be careful and don't speed, etc. Good luck!

I recently purchased the Sims 2 Pets computer game. I thought about getting Sims 2 Apartment Life or even the Sims Life Stories but I really like pets so I went with the Sims 2 Pets. I've never had a Sims game so I thought it would be neat to try out. Anyway, I went through the installation process and it popped up with an error message, I suppose. It says, basically, that I need to purchase the Sims 2 game.

That doesn't make sense to me. I paid for my Sims 2 Pets game so why does it keep popping up that I need to purchase the Sims 2 game? Am I trying to install the Sims 2 Pets wrong? Did the cashier need to scan the Sims 2 Pets game CD better?

What in the world am I doing wrong?

You need to have the Sims 2 before you can install any others. The Sims 2 pets is an expansion pack, it adds on the regular Sims 2.

hey my eyeliner always smears like within an hour after i put it on for some reason... without even touching it AT ALL.

i dont have oily skin under my eyes and ive tried putting on powder underneath and over the eyeliner, and ive tried a lot of different kinds of eyeliners.

how do i prevent it from smearing??? is ther any type of eyeliner that i can buy that wont smear at all whatsoever????? thanks!!

I had this problem for a while too. I would end up looking like a raccoon! You can buy something called "she-laq" by benefit cosmetics from sephora which is a sealant you can put over your makeup so it doesn't smear. It is kind of expensive, but it lasts a while. That's what i used for a while until i found this eye liner at rite aid of all places that says it lasts 24 hours and actually does last all day for me, at least better than all the others. The brand is "Styli-Style." It works really well.

Hope i helped!

will my hair look weird if i put in the non permanant blond with the hair i got?....(my hair is brown with permanant blond highlights)....will my hair be one shade or will some parts be lightier becuase of the blond i already have in my hair? i would love to hear about any expeiriences...comments....edvice or concernce. and also if it would work what brand should i use? THANX so much!

Non-permanent blonde streaks won't work. The way you get blonde streaks is to use something that strips color off your hair. There is nothing to wash out or fade away, because its not really dye, its color being taken away from your hair so its permanent. I went through all of this a long time ago and learned the hard way haha. Anything that lightens your hair is permanent, unless its, like the other person said, spray on. Good luck
