Q: 15/f. Sophomore.

I took the PSAT about a week ago. There was only critical thinking/reading, math, and I'm not sure what the other section was called, but it was like grammer and choosing the right word. Are these the only subjects on the SAT? What about science? History?

On the math test, there was multiple choice, and then there was fill in. It was if you missed any math that wasn't multiple choice, it wouldn't count agaist you. How can it not count? What's the point of it?

One last question. What's a good score to get? A bad one? How many is it out of?

Any answers appreciated.
Thanks!!
It depends on the area that you live in. I live in NY, and the PSAT- if you leave it blank, they take off 1/4 of a point but if you answer it wrong, they take off a whole point.

But for the math fill in- they don't take off any points, whether you answer it wrong or if you leave it blank. They'll only give you points if you answer it correctly.

On the SAT, there is only English and Math because that is the two subjects that are the easiest to grade, LOL.

And I think the highest score you can get is 2400 but it may vary in different places. So a really good grade is like a 2100 or 2200 or even a 2000, usually Ivy leagues pick students w/ SATs around that and suny's or cuny's take in students with lower or higher.

Q: I am a senior in high school & I'm really interested in becoming a Nutritionist or Dietician. I was planning on going to school in NY and starting at a regular college, then my sophomore year of college, I'll apply to their Nutrition program since you need certain credits. My high school does not have all of the courses that you need before you start becoming a registered dietician. I know the basics & I googled about becoming one, but can anyone give me additional information about the field?? I don't want to actually cook or work for food. I want to plan meals & help people with their weight. I lost 40+ lbs myself in a healthy way & I think I could really help a lot of people. Any advice, suggestions, opinions, experiences, etc??
Thanks!!
Wow, we have something in common, I am aspiring to be a dietitian as well. I had searched up some good colleges in NY and around NY (other states) that have pretty good nutrition programs. And don't worry- it doesn't matter what courses you take in high school, in college they give you most of the courses. For a dietitan, I think you only need to go to school for four years and then you can work. Dietitians don't need to actually cook the food, they just make the plans. Some dietitians, will set out a plan for an indidivual and they prepare their own meals, that is if you have your own clinic, but if you work in a hospital (where I am planning to work in) you make plans for patients such as the elderly and children- food plans that fit with their sickness and will be nutritious for them.
Here are some colleges/universities that have pretty good Nutrition programs.

-Cornell Unversity: Division of Nutritional Sciences [Ithaca, New York]
http://www.nutrition.cornell.edu/dns7_undergradnsreq.html

-NYU Steinhart: Department of Nutrition, Food Studies and Public Health [Manhattan, New York]
http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/nutrition/undergraduate/nutrition_dietetics

-Lehman College: Department of Health Sciences [Bronx, New York]
http://www.lehman.edu/deannss/healthsci/programcourse.html

-Hunter Honors College: The School of Health Sciences [Manhattan, New York]
http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/schoolhp/uph/index.htm

-Boston University: College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences [Boston, Massachuttes]
http://www.bu.edu/sargent/academics/health-sciences/bs-nutritional/curriculum/dietetics/

-UMass Amherst [Amherst, Massachuttes]

-Rutgers [New Jersey]

My top suggestions and probably the universities/colleges that I'm planning to try for and consider the most is- Cornell, NYU, BU, Hunter Honors (for Hunter, the Honors program is levels better than the regular one), Lehman, and Rutgers, but there are still many others.

Q: Some of my friends recently think that I am going to turn anorexic soon, or that I am already. They say I need to eat more. I think I am eating plenty. Here is what i eat usually... for breakfast I usually eat a special K bar, then for lunch I eat like and apple or a kiwi or some kind of fruit, then for dinner I will eat like a half of a half of a hamburger sized peice of meat and a small side salad. Do you think that this is enough? I drink water or vitamine water normally. They keep worrying that I am going to pass out at practice or something. I am a dancer and am at practice for 5 hours a day, so they keep telling me I am not eating enough calories in a day. What is your oppinion on this? Am I really anorexic or and ok? Oh yeah and also i am 5'7" and about 105 pounds and am a girl. Is that a good weight?
"Underweight teens Being underweight also is linked to health risks, especially if it is caused by malnutrition."
Considering the amount of food you consume- it can result in fatigue, (weakness and it can cause you to faint), you can't concentrate as well and you get angered easily. If you are underweight, your immune system weakens (because of the lack of nutritions) and you won't be able to fight off infections or viruses as easily.
I don't think you are an anorexic, Anorexics deliberately starve themselves because they think they are fat. And you are not starving yourself but it is true- you need to eat more. You should check your height and see what kind of weight you fall under, try to meet that weight, if you do- you are just right.
However, don't eat fatty and oily foods, eat foods that are high in protein and nutritients, and since you have dance practice for 5 hours, you really should consume carbs in the morning, such as whole grain cereal and a slice of whole grain/ whole wheat bread, it really helps. As for dinner- you don't have to eat as much since after dinner, you usually don't go out and do cardio exercise, so you should limit your dinner but have more calorie intake in the morning so you use it up by the end of the day.

Q: Does anybody know any low calorie snacks that they sell in like newsagents?? Like a chocolate bar or cereal bar.
Which one would you recomend and about how many calories is it
thanks
xshanshanx
The Quaker oatmeal bars are about 90-100 (depending on variety) calories per bar but then the bars aren't that big. The Nature Valley Granola Bars are 90 cal per bar. Try the Special K cereal bars- low in calories. Also the 100 calorie packs, they have the brands of regular junk food (oreos, chips ahoy) but in a smaller size and smaller amount of calories and they taste like the original!

Q: My dog died something like 1 hour ago. It was very unexpected, and my whole family was crying. I on the other hand, felt no need to cry or anything, although I was close to him as well. Am I a walking time bomb, or is this just my grieving style? Thanks.
Nothing is wrong. Really. Everyone just have differnt ways of dealing with deaths. Some people cry to releash their emotions and someone just burden the pain inside (not showing any signs of sadness) I do that sometimes as well. I guess it is a sign that we want to stay strong and not let our interior break down.

Q: 28/m
About a week ago I pinched a girl on the buns in a parking lot because I thought it was an old friend of mine. Well, it wasn't! So she turned around, put one hand on my shoulder to hold me still, cocked her other arm back and said: "I hope it was worth it". Then she punched me right in the mouth....and HARD!!!! She knocked out my 2 front teeth!! Asked me if I learned my lesson and I said: "Yes ma'am".
Do you think I deserved it? The worse part about it is that I had to go home and explain it to my wife. Now, not only do I have to go without for 6 months, I have to make her breakfast in bed every morning for 6 months!! Do you think I have it coming just for pinching another girl on the bottom??
To be straight forward. You damn right deserved it. I mean, if you are going to be pinching someone's butt, make sure it is the right person! But gosh, that must have hurt. Oo.
And your wife has a right. Ahem. She is "your" wife.
Suck it up. You're a man. 6 months is really nothing- you did it, live up to it.

Q: the past week i have had this rash on both on my arms. They itch like mad crazy. it a bunch of lil scab dots all over and if i scratch my arms i end up scracthing the scab off and it bleeds. I have no idea what it is going on here i never had anything like this and its driving me crazy.

if anyone has ever had this before or if you have any idea what it could be please let me know

thank you
DON'T SCRATCH!!!!!
Number one warning. Besides it bleeding, it can lead to an infection and maybe a scar.
Go see a doctor and he/she will prescribe you a type of cream or ontiment that will soothe the rash. That is the best I can suggest because I don't know if it is allergies or some sort of illness.

Q: ok so im trying to be a healthier person - not necessarily trying to lose weight but i wouldnt mind slimming down some. anyway im trying to follow the food pyramid. i havent been so strict about it because it seems like i dont eat enough meals to get in all the types of food im supposed to... i would eat more spaced out meals but on weekdays i cant. i leave for school at 7 so i eat at about 6 30, my lunch is at about 11, and i have practice after school and dont get home till around 5, and dinner is usually around 6 or 6:30.
so, for a typical days meal, is this good? and if anyone could give me like a full out meal plan for the day that would follow the food pyramid that would be great.

breakfast:
2 scrambled eggs with a slice of american cheese melted in, 2 pieces of whole grain toast, a glass of skim milk

lunch:
peanut butter and jelly on 2 pieces of whole grain bread, a handful of mini carrots, a handful of wheat thins, and a half pint of water

snack:
banana and water

dinner: (i dont have much authority with this meal so i might have to work around it, but here is a common one in my house)
pasta with tomato sauce and 2 meatballs, a bowl of spinach salad with cucumbers, carrots, croutons, and a little italian dressing, a glass of milk

also - im not sure if this is a good idea, but im trying to limit the drinks i have to water and milk. i love milk and i of course have to watch calcium intake, and then i always try to hydrate myself with water for sports and such.

sorry that was so long. thank you!
Actually I want to say something to a the previous comment- true, carbs do affect your body and it is fattening because if you don't burn it off it gets turned into fat. However, protein and vitamins will also turn into fat if it is not burned off. And fruits tend to have a lot of frutose which is a form of sugar and sugar can be turned into fat. Also- the pancreas secretes insulin which is a hormone that removes the sugar from the blood content and if too much sugar is constantly being consumed- it weakens the pancreas- increasing your rate of becoming a diabetic.

Carbs the food source that supplies the most energy- sure I would say to cut down the carbs but not completely.
However, I argee, it isn't best to concentrate only on a food pyramid. Of course, watch what you eat and eat healthy but lean towards exercising and burning off those extra calories. It keeps the body fit and helps burn off fat. Eat carbs, but jog everyday to stay in shape.

Think of dieting as a way to stay healthy. Don't diet just because you want to lose weight (which we all do) but think of it as a way to help you and your body. Diabetes, heart disease, liver malfunctions, etc. It all harms your body.

P.S. If you really want to stick w/ your food pyramid, then I suggest you to lose the scrambled eggs. Egg yolk is bad for you- high in cholesterol (bad for the heart and arteries) Egg white is fine but the yolk can be done away with. Stick with boiling it if you have to, too much oil isn't that great. And the pasta at night, eat it occassionally, because it is for dinner, it is a carb, and the calories don't get burned off since you go to sleep in a couple of hours.

I have some book suggestions if you want to have meal plans.

One is "8 minute in the Morning to a Flat Belly" (Mostly for exercise but they have meal plans and types of foods you should eat) by Jorge Cruise. And another book is "The Complete Diabetes Prevention Plan" by Sandra Woodruff and Christopher Saudek. Try them.

Q: why yes, I do drink 6-8 glasses a day :)

but why is it important to do so, exactly?
Besides helping your body function and maintaining homeostasis (helping chemical reactions occur, balance acid levels in stomach, transport nutrients, keeps body hydrated, etc) it also helps in losing weigh because it helps when you are feeling hungry. When you are hungry- it is best to drink a glass of water first. You may be feeling hungry because your body needs water- (food has water so duh) and that will help prevent you from binging so much. So I guess that is beneficial.

Q: are fruits & vegetables fattening at ALL? i mean, they HAVE to be atleast a little! if i ate 900 apples a day, i would HAVE to get fatter.... right?
Well, that is IF you can eat 900 apples a day, because I think you'll probably become sick after the first 15 or 20.

Anyways, fruits are high in sugar and of course you'll gain weight from all those excess amounts of sugar you are intaking. And it is bad for your pancreas since it has to secrete insulin constantly for to maintain a regular sugar level in your blood. It will wear out eventually from secreting all that insulin. Which will eventually lead to pancreas damage and possibly diabetes. That is the worst scenerio.

Vegetables and fruits are good for you yes, but it doesn't help to just eat them everyday. You will not have enough proteins and carbs in your body making you weak and tired. Also too much vitamins gets stored as fat if it is not used.

Q: hey yall im 16 yrs old im 5 foot 6 inches and im only 95 lbs and its all from a very high metabolism whixh is goood but i get a lot of coments about lookin a lil sick sometimes !! is there a safe way to gain weight ? but not get fatty lookin just decent?
Actually- to be frank with you- I think you have a REALLY big problem. It isn't just that you are skinny. But if you are 5'6, nevermind the age, and you are only 95. Something is incredibly wrong. I don't think it is just your metabolism. I advise you to go see the doctor because it is really bad to be 95 pounds at the height of 5'6. You are really underweight by a lot. Even if you are a 105 pounds at 5'6, that is a problem.

Consult with a doctor first and question him/her if you should try diets to gain weight because it is better to check with a doctor first before anything else.

Q: is there anyway of loosing weight fast? any tips of what? im 5'3 and like 133 and i kind of want to loose some weight for the summer. thanks!!
Actually you might not be totally overweight. It all depends on your frame. You can be small frame, medium frame, or large frame. It is different in each of those catergories.

At 5'3, if you are a small frame then you should be about 107-115. If you are a medium frame you should be 112-126. If you are a large frame, you should be 121-138. So you might not be really too overweight. Frames are the size of your bones not your body. I can't really explain it but it is just saying like 'big boned' you aren't fat, but your bones are just bigger compared to other people.

And I suggest not to lean so much towards 'crunches' because it makes your stomach bulge out. Erks. Because you are pushing your stomach muscles forward to lift yourself up, and it doesn't really help me much so I don't advise for you to do that.

I feel that it is a good site. Try it.

Q: what happens when you eat too many vitamin tablets in one day? i just ate 3 and i wanna eat another becuause they taste so good! lol its the childrens ones.. its kinda like the flinstones tablets but they are kinda bigger. it says to only eat 1 daily though.. what could the side effects be? idk..
Too much vitamins are bad for the body, same for protein. Too much vitamin would be stored as fat or in worst scenarios, you get sick.

Q: [ i am a girl ] okay. i have this one friend names katlyn who cheers with me, and she was literally my best friend. we were insepperatable..but then one day i was over at my other friend kelley's house..and i was talking to katlyn on AIM. kelley said she thought katlyn was hilarious..so she asked for her screen name..i gave it to her. a couple weeks later kelley said she wanted to meet katlyn..and i said sure..no big deal right? so all three of us plan a sleepover last august. after the sleepover, kelley and katlyn talked a lot, but katlyn always assured me she didnt like kelley..or so i thought. months later, me and katlyn went through some friendship problems. it was bad. and during it kelley and katlyn got extremely close..until they planned a sleepover..WITHOUT me. and ever since that day i look at them differently. they put me through a lot of pain.. and now, we finally got it all worked out and we planned an "all three of us" sleepover..but kelley and katlyn also planned something just with them..the night before. i dont know what to do..i guess the only reason i feel soo weird about all this is that if it wasnt for me, kelley and katlyn would have no connection.. how should i handle this? and how can i help forgive them? sorry this is long..but i need the advice..im desperate.
♥thank you for your time

It is true that Katyln is your friend and even a really close friend- but that doesn't mean she can't have other friends. In this world, it is better to know more than one person and maybe she just wants to get along better with other people. Also, they planning a sleepover without you- maybe they are just getting close and want to spend some more time together or they just thought you were to busy. Talk this over with Katyln but personally I would just go with the flow- make some other friends because if you do talk to Katyln about it- she'll feel like you are being over possessive about it and only want her to be your friends.

I had really close friends in elementary school but after the seperate in junior high, we lost contact. Even though I see them again, we don't greet each other and even if we do- it is just a simple 'hi'. It is not that we don't care anymore but it is just a cycle, you lose some you gain some. MAybe you'll realize there are other people that understand you better or you get along with them better. I don't have super close friends anymore because I know that it will change once you move to a different school, but it doesn't mean I don't have any friends. I still have a lot and it is just that if you want to befriend someone-it doesn't mean you have to devote your life to that person.

Q: I was sitting in the car after helping someone move and I noticed my finger hurt...

its my Ring finger on my left hand and at the Middle Knuckle the finger turns to the right and is a little Swollen!!!
Ils only a sharp pain when I touch the Knuckle.....I can abend it and theres A very Dull pain!

No Bruising!

What is wrong?!?!?!?!

Thanks
It could be many things. A fracture in your bone, sprain or a dislocation (bone comes out of its socket) and any of those can be pretty bad if it is untreated. Go to the doctor and get a xray and I don't think there is any other possible solution except going to the doctor. Also if it is any sort of fracture or dislocation of the bone and the doctor places your finger between two metal pieces or something along that line (I have no idea what it is called) be sure to bend your fingers from time to time- if you let it be stiff during that period- your bones will not be able to bend anymore or it will end up in an awkward position. I mean, your finger bone will be able to bend forward but probably not backwards. However, just ask your doctor if that is possible- just in case she/he advises you not to in certain conditions.

Q: my "best friend" is going after a guy I like. I introduced them and I told her I liked him before she even met him, but now she's going after him behind my back and aparently he likes her.. am i the one being messed up or is she?
Well, that is pretty rude. I don't mean to offend you or your friend, you guys probably been through a lot and are really close but doing that to you when she already knows that you like that guy is pretty selfish. If she is your best friend, that is even worst- doesn't she understand that friends are more important than guys? However, it can't be helped that people can fall for the same person. If she had told you before about her liking the same guy- it could be understandable but if she didn't and just went behind you and is now going after him- that is pretty rude. If you really treasure your relationship with her or want to keep your relationship, talk with her. Tell her how you feel and question her. It is best to solve things, guys don't stay forever, it isn't worth it to lost a best friend for something that isn't permante.

Q: I've struggled with finding the answer to this, and I dont know if any of you can help, but maybe give me hope?

I'm only 15/f .. I've never had a boyfriend.
Now I know I'm young, compared to all you who are like 20+ but, you remember when you were in highschool.

I guess I admit I am lonely, I know I dont need a boy to make me happy. I can make myself happy. It would just be nice to have one.

I have guy friends, but none more than that.
There is a guy I like, and I'm pretty sure he likes me, everyone says so. But I dont know what to say to him, and I'm afraid if I told him I liked him, he would be like "uh okay..." and try to be cool or something.

So I dont know.
I argee with you- teenagers at this age don't need a boyfriend. We can survive on our own. You don't need to stress and become worried about having a boyfriend, girls/guys at 14-17 (even) don't require a relationship.
I want to say- you should be positive he likes you before you do anything because you can't just base it on the rumors people say. I mean, if you do go up and bluntly ask him- you might ruin the relationship you have with him right now. Unless you want to do that, don't question until you are certain and until you are positive that you want to be in a relationship. A lot of things will get in the way once you start.

Q: Hi, i'm about 5'6 105. I know that i'm i guess.. "considered" thin, but i don't really believe it myself sometimes. I often feel fat and i always want to lose weigh. I come up with different diets, like eating just salad (lettuce with fat free dressing.) I do like food sometimes, so i'll want to eat something and feel kinda bad about it. I feel like i'm never thin enough.
You are pretty much underweight by like 15 to 20 pounds. At your height you should be between 115-125. Being underweight is not that great because it means that your body does not have enough fat and when it needs to use fat as energy- you will not have it, making you feel tired easily. Also, you don't have fat to act as a insulator.

I think you may have a problem. You are already 105 and you still feel that you are not thin enough? Uh ...maybe that is a flashing warning sign. If you want to eat- eat the foods you want. It isn't bad to eat junk food but you should eat it moderatly. Staying healthy doesn't mean that you give up all the foods that you like. At your weight, I think you should eat more- don't feel bad about it. It is your life, I mean, no one can estimate how long they can live, so why don't you just enjoy what you have right now?

Q: If you stop eating meat in general, it can help weight loss?
Meat does contain a lot of fat but it also contains the whole set of amino acids which are building blocks of protein. And you need protein in your body for growth and repair of lost cells or damaged cells.
If you stop eating meat in general, it probably will help lose weight but you lose energy and proteins in general. If you want to gain back those proteins you will have to combine different vegetables to eat and have the complete set of amino acids. Foods that are high in protein are beans and corns.

Hihi everyone. Call me Kit and I live in New York. If you ever want to talk, just leave me a message!

I'm a sophomore in High School. Of course, I am not a superb advice giver but I can have my voice heard in topics. However, like everyone else, I have my own problems. But I feel that if everyone can just express their true feelings to one another, problems can be solved easily. So if you ever have a question or a remark to make, simply say it. I don't mind at all. I'm sure even if you make insults at me, you probably have a reason to and I'll just approach it the same way I approach things in life.

Whether your question is simple or profound, I'll do my best to help. ^^. Laters!

Kit.
