about

I'm a student studying Communications, Graphic Design, and possibly Music. I've worked quite a lot of jobs and I've worked with quite a lot of different people. I see sides of people that most don't really think about. Friends generally come to me for any sort of advice. My hobbies include playing music (bass guitar, guitar, sax, and singing), radio DJing, longboarding, art, and spending Sunday afternoon being lazy. Basically I offer some pretty solid relationship advice, life advice, or what to do life questions. I've also spent the last 3 years of my life being chronically ill so I can offer some advice on that level too. I've learned a lot of things and I look at life a little differently than most 18 year old women. If you just need some reassurance or comfort, I'm here. I'm pretty chill like that.

advice

I'm 18. I'm in high school. A high school for the GIFTED, actually, and yet half the kids in my school don't know the difference between "their" and "they're", "your"/"you're", "to"/"too", etc. And, well, neither does the rest of teenage America.

What the fuck? What HAPPENED. What the hell is wrong with this country that we can't learn grammatical laws that have been introduced to is in, what, second grade? Has having cell phones permanently put kids in "typin like dis lol" mode?

It's the public education system. We have all been dumbed down. Most teachers are complete idiots, thus students are not challenged at all in class. The system makes it so everyone is taught down to the lowest intelligence level in class instead of being challenged to exceed standards. Read "Against School" by John Gatto sometime.

I'm 16, female, weigh 150 lbs., and am 5'7 (67 in.). I am an all year round athlete in lacrosse and swimming. I eat fairly healthy, I run a 7:40 minute mile. I just got my physical to play lacrosse yesterday and my weight and height were 150 and 5'7. I was totally fine with this because I have a lot of muscle and saw it as being normal for an athlete. That night when my dad saw the form, and my weight, he freaked and told me I was really over weight and needed to get down to 130. My dad has been on me about my weight since I was 10, but I felt like at least this was unnecessary. I have a lot of insecurities about my weight and continue to struggle with a little bit of a bulimia problem.

just tell me if you think I'm wrong and need to lose weight or my dad is wrong.

thanks.

That is so completely wrong of your dad. Tell him he needs to figure out what sort of issues he has because he is being ridiculous. Your weight is just fine, you're healthy, you eat fine. Especially for an athlete, 150 lbs is just fine. Don't worry about it, kick some butt doing what you do, and tell your dad to start worrying about his own weight.

Do you know how to get rid of hickeys? I have a really big one on my neck, and I'm not sure what to do!? please hurry!

Hickeys are tough since they are pretty much bruises right under the skin. If it happened within the last half hour you can apply ice (wrapped in something) with pressure for a while. Then you can apply a wet heat to it (so something like a hot washcloth) with some pressure as well. This will help remove swelling. After that you can massage it and try to loosen it up as much as possible. That's about all you can do, though. I'm sorry. Once the damage is done your only options are make up (applying concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin colour) and wearing things to cover it up (scarves, hoodies). Hickeys just need time to heal and they can't exactly be gone in a matter of minutes. Good luck!

This is REALLY stupid but I'm SO curious about it! My boyfriend was talking about Dr. Seuss because he said he use to LOVE the books when he was little and then I asked him if he knew about the famous green eggs and ham book. He said that was his favorite book. The more we talked, the more curious we were about the actual GREEN eggs thing.

I guess you could put dye in the eggs to make them green but my boyfriend said he thinks there probably is something referred to as "green eggs" that goes along with ham. I'm not really sure.

I'd really like to give him a correct answer tomorrow when I see him so we will both know the truth behind it.

...so does anybody know if there really is something called green eggs?

Well actually sometimes eggs can be greenish in colour. The shell, that is. Not the actual edible egg part.

I'm going to graduate this year and so we have this senior prom coming up. Everybody is making a big fuss about buying expensive prom dresses and getting all dolled up with their boyfriends for this dance and I really am not interested in it. I'd rather just chill with my friends, watch some bad movies and eat some junk food, and make a long night of it at home.

I've never been really girly so the whole $300 dress thing doesn't appeal to me. My boyfriend is cool with me not wanting to go to the prom and thought maybe I should even have my own home-party instead so that I could "do something special" too.

The problem is with my mom. Ever since I started high school my mom has been really excited about my prom day. She talked about going dress shopping and getting my hair and make-up done. She's really big into photography too so I'm certain she had photos in mind too.

Now, I thought about telling her that I'm not interested in going to the prom but if she wanted to help me have a little party with my friends instead it would be nice. She's helped me have parties before so it isn't that she would be against that--it would be that there wouldn't be a prom "thing" for me.

I know she's been waiting for this for awhile, especially to see me all dressed up, but it isn't something I want to do. What do I say without sounding like an evil cunt? I don't want to hurt her feelings with this.

Here's a solution for both of you: You have a party at home, but dress up anyway. This way your mom can get her dress shopping daughter-bonding time in, take photographs of you and your friends and boyfriend, and you can enjoy your senior year your way. This is what my friends and I did my senior year. We just had a dance/movie party in my basement whilst wearing our dresses, then we went out for a drive. It was a lot more fun than being in a large room filled with people we didn't really like all night. Our mothers were satisfied because they got to see us all dolled up in our dresses and we were satisfied as well to celebrate being who we were. I hope this helps and good luck.

I found a cute pair of knee high rainbow socks for Halloween on sale at http://www.sockdreams.com. The socks were shipped to me fast (maybe because I'm close to their base) but they have tons of cute socks and you can find some for as cheap as $6. I hope this helps.

Today (Monday), I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. I was fingered Saturday so could the urinary tract infection be a result of this?

It could be or it could also just be holding your pee too long or not washing well enough. UTI's are tricky like that. Be sure to drink lots of cranberry juice to get over it faster.

I woke up this morning with Violent Stomach Cramps, so bad i almost cried. Initially i thought i had to go to the bathroom, but I was unable to poo. (lol). 40 Minutes later my stomach ache had only gotten worse so i made myself throw up. It was the most painful experience ive been through since ive had surgery like 4 years ago.

My boyfriend and i never use condoms and i was just wondering if painful stomach cramping could be associated with being pregnant?

Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

It could be that you are just very constipated. The first portion of pregnancy doesn't usually include incredible stomach cramps, but I've had stomach cramps bad enough to make me cry and I was just constipated. Drink lots of liquids and start eating healthier and go see a doctor with your concerns. I hope this helps.

I have really bd skin.
Like in the winter it gets all dry and stuff.
Currently, I have three very dry, very cracked fingers.
I read someone there were some time of gloves you could wear at night that would sofen them up?

What are those gloves and where can I find them?

I have used socks instead of gloves because the elastic band of the gloves can leave a painful line around my wrist. Pick a soft pair of socks and load your hands up with lotion, put the socks over your hands, and sleep. This has prevented my hands from getting dried out so I can continue playing guitar without my fingers bleeding. I hope this helps.

So I'm in my second semester of my senior year of high school, and I've already been accepted to four colleges. I have straight a's and am not too worried about my grades.
Lately, I've been getting really annoyed with the people in school. Everyone is super overdramatic and acting like the world doesn't extend outside a 10 mile radius of school. I have even openly told people what I think; they agree with me, but still act all dramatic. I know it's pretty normal for people to act like this, but it's making school miserable. How can I ignore this crap and actually enjoy the rest of my senior year?

I was so the same way. Just grit your teeth and get through it. It's basically like the last little bit of hell and then you're free with your degree. The rest of the year will go by super fast, don't worry. Just try and enjoy yourself and don't depend on your peers to be awesomely cool. Once you get out of high school you'll have the opportunity to never deal with the strange drama again. So just hang in there, and good luck.

i am currently stuck between three majors i REALLY like.

i aws thinking of double-majoring in college.

it'd either be between mechanical engineering and architecture or mechanical engineering & graphic design.

is this a good idea? none of these majors are too connected (except engineering and architecture, they're VERY loosely connected because both use physics). i'm worried that if i do choose to do this, i'll be severely overworked. especially if i choose to attend an ivy league school.

It seems that you haven't even reached college yet. It's a good thing that you have an idea what you want to major in. When you get to college you might take a few classes of some of these majors and decide that you absolutely hate it. Before I went to college I had in mind the kinds of majors I wanted to major in (three or four), but I took a few classes in some of them and found out it was something I wouldn't enjoy. Most college students change their major at least twice. So don't worry about this too much now, it'll be figured out as you go along. Don't overwork yourself, it will slowly wear you down from semester to semester. I hope this helps.

I have been with my boyfriend for over 3 years now and i still have a hard time wanting to go spend time with his family. They are very nice people and very welcoming. but i just feel that a couple members of his family are really judgemental. I've noticed them sometimes look me up and down to see what im wearing. and they have money, so what they wear is really nice, classy, pretty, whatever. I'm not rich, i wear jeans and a tee shirt most of the time. I want to spend more time with his family but every time i do i just feel like they are judging me. Usually i dont ever worry about that but with his family i am extremely worried. How can i stop worrying about what they think? I want to be more comfortable with going over to his house without worrying about what im going to wear cuz his family will look at me and judge what i look like.

They might be judging you but you might also be nervous about making a good impression and are paranoid a bit. Humans do that. We think people are paying more attention than they actually are. Whether that is the case or not, just smile through it and be yourself. Don't worry whether they will be judging you or not. In the end, if your boyfriend loves you they will learn to love you too. Good luck!

My girlfriend and I both believe she has the symptoms of depression. Her sleeping schedule can never remain stable and she typically sleeps an average of 14 hours a day, more or less. She's home a lot since she's currently unemployed and has had no luck with jobs she's applied for. She doesn't really have any friends locally since she moved here a year ago. She basically just has me and my family. I've been trying my best to help her, but being the only one working, my time during the day is limited too.

What makes matters worse is, i'm making barely enough to make ends meet and neither of us have health insurance. I've looked up local clinics and plan on calling in the next couple of days to see if we can get any free services.

I guess what i'm posting to ask about is advice from other people who have gone through or have been very close to someone who is depressed. Should we turn immediately to prescription drugs? Personally, I've always been one who turns to medication as a last resort. I can't speak for her though, but if I can offer any input or ideas, i'd like to. I've considered things such as maybe taking short walks together in the morning before I go to work and in the afternoon when I get home, trying to help her out more in seeking work, and basically anything to keep her brain busy and prevent her from just mulling around all day. Like I said, these are all things i've considered and nothing i've executed yet since i'd like input.

Anything you can offer would be helpful. I'm just seeking out first hand knowledge or someone knowledgeable on the matter. Thanks in advance!

It is already a good thing that your girlfriend is aware of her symptoms. This means you won't be dealing with denial. Due to chronic illness I suffered depression symptoms for a few years. I don't have health insurance either. I highly suggest getting on a steady and healthy diet and taking vitamins, specifically a multivitamin, vitamin B-12, and vitamin D. This may not seem like it's doing a lot for a while, but you should start seeing some changes if you're patient. I also suggest that she find activities to do, hobbies to pick up, etc. This is where you might need to help out because she will probably not feel like it but she needs to be active. Laying around all day, as you said, mulling about not having a job isn't helping her out at all. It's a great thing to keep yourself busy. Learning new things is a great way to do that so encourage her to pick up a hobby, maybe learn how to play an instrument or something. If you decide nothing is working, a last resort is always prescription medicine. I was put on Prozac about a month and a half ago and it hasn't done much more than make me jittery and give me headaches, although that could possibly just be a personal reaction to it. They tell me that sometimes it takes patience finding the right medicine. I hope this is all helpful in some way and I hope that your girlfriend starts feeling better. Good luck!

im in love with my girlfriend but i dont know how to tell her what should i say? how should i say it? when should i say it?

Just say it when it comes natural to you. Don't let it get to your head and be nervous about it because it may seem insincere. The best time is usually when you two are alone and just cuddling or something. That tends to be a natural time to say I love you. Worrying about it too much might make it a lot hard her so just tell her how you feel right from your heart! I hope this helps.

I sprained my wrist playing softball and it is swollen and VERY painful. How long does a sprained wrist take to heal usually? I am a girl and this is my first sport so I guess I am new to the whole sports injuries thing. I feel like such a jock! XD

It really depends. Sprains sometimes can actually take longer to heal than actual breaks can. Just try to rest it as much as possible, don't overuse it, and don't push it when going back to playing softball. Many people prolong their injuries by trying to get back on the field or court too fast. Be sure to use ibuprofen to help reduce swelling, drink plenty of water, get plenty of sleep, etc. The body has an amazing ability to fix itself so don't do anything to make it harder for it. Hope you heal soon!

I can't seem to find the perfect bra, or even a really good fitting one. I'm a 34D and I have spent so much money trying to find a bra that fits well. Obviously, I need a good supportive bra and something that has good coverage so I'm not spilling out all over the place. The bras that usually come in my size, are sort of.. old fashioned and like what my mother wears. I just can't find something that's youthful but with support and coverage. Are there any brands that anyone has tried and loved?

It is super hard finding a bra for people with bigger busts. I wear a 34DD and it seems pretty impossible to find anything good. I've resorted to waiting for Victoria's Semi-Annual sale. That way I can get their bras cheaper and try out a few at a time. As for trying to find something cute, it's hard. Push up bras aren't really made for us but you can usually get simple bras in cute colors. You might consider spicing up your bras yourself. Why not? I hope you find the right bras for you.

I need some advice:

I'm a 19 year old female, and I am dating a 16 year old boy. He will be 17 in July, as I will be 20 in October. We have been dating a few months now. I don't know if we should be doing this. I've received mixed opinions from those around me. Some have said to continue dating him, as we have feelings for each other, and that age is just a number. Where as others have said they don't believe it's right, or moral.

He doesn't think like a 16 year old boy. He doesn't even live with his parents, or even family for that matter. He works, lives on his own with roommates. Has his own car. Everything.

If you need more details, let me know, but I think this should be enough for you to help me.

As long as you are both happy, the age difference is no matter. It is only three years and the only thing that people have issues with is that he's still considered a minor, but three years will not matter when he's 18. Grit your teeth through all the negative things people say and do what makes you happy. Good luck!

http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/digitalcamera/coolpix/life/l110/index.htm

1) Has more megapixels, but requires batteries

http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/digitalcamera/coolpix/performance/p100/index.htm

2) more expensive, but has a way better zoom, has less megapixels though =(

HELP all of you camera people!

Megapixels is just a fancy word they use to try and hook people in. You should really be looking at the zoom and functionality of the camera. Determining on what you will be using it for and how much you want to spend will help you choose the right one. For example, the second one would be better if you were taking pictures of action scenes like in sports whereas the first one would be better if you were taking pictures of, say, people and flowers. Don't get too caught up on the megapixels, both of these cameras have the ability to produce quality high-resolution photographs.

what are symptoms of chronic tension headaches and where on the head does it hurt when you have a chronic tension headache?

Chronic tension headaches are common and are considered chronic if they happen consistently for more than 15 days in a row. If they happen for times less than 15 days in a row then they are determined to be episodic tension headaches. Tension headaches are usually around the forehead or at the back of the head or neck. If you think you have chronic tension headaches you can do things in your life to try and relieve them such as improving your posture, getting rid of bad habits such as smoking, eating right, and minimizing stress. I hope this helps.

As for the tooth grinding and too much computer time, I'd say that both could contribute greatly to headaches. Usually tooth grinding results in jaw pain as well. They make jaw protectors for that if you determine that's your issue. Try and have good posture when you're at the computer to reduce tension on your neck, especially if you are on the computer for large amounts of time.
