about

"Awe is not a very comfortable standpoint for many people... Hence, all about us today, we see avoidance of awe by burying ourselves in materialist science, for example or in absolutist religious positions; or by locking ourselves into systems, whether corporate, familial, or consumerist; or by stupefying ourselves with drugs."
-Kirk Schneider, 2004, Rediscovery of Awe, p. xiii

I have light brown hair and blue eyes. My favourite colours are white and light blue. I like to eat Italian food: olives, vinegar, pasta, garlic and tomatoes. I love Italy and travelling. I listen to the radio.

okay so this is what my eyebrows look like..

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo178/laurencos22/untitled.jpg

i honestly hate them so much, i've tried to get that "arch" but i feel like i'm just overplucking them but i CANNOT stand when they grow in i just think it looks disgusting but i know of this girl, here is a picture of her..

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo178/laurencos22/maritzaaaa.jpg

and i absolutely love her eyebrows, how full they look and how they have that arch. i think my eyebrows just make me look mean, i don't know what to do with them! i pluck mine, waxing is not an option with me but i just don't know how to get that full eyebrow look with the arch. if anyone could help me i would really appreciate it without websites, i dont' learn from that!
thank you :)

The reason her her eyebrows look so full yet have the arch is because the arch follows her natural shape. You can't always achieve your dream eyebrow look, but you can create it in a way that flatters you perfectly.
With my vast amount of knowledge on eyebrow shapes, three ways that I can see from your picture to help you gain a full shape:
-Let the top grow in. You have some hairs that are growing in. Let them! Your face will show a more healthy expression. The tops of the brow should never be plucked. Only those hairs that no others in a few mm radius of them should be plucked, just to keep it clean.
-Let them grow in in between. The closer you can get your brows together without looking too scarce is the ideal. Doing this can actually improve the look of your skin by softening the look of this part of the face, which is the center of the face.
-Lengthen the ends, if you can. There is a rule of lining up your nose and eye with a pencil to find the outsides of your eyebrows. I don't follow this rule; on me, it looks horrible, and on my best friend as well. If someone's eyebrows actually do lineup according to this rule, it's usually a natural coincidence. Allow your eyebrows to be as long as they want, and you will appear healthier and happier.

As your eyebrows are growing in with the above tips, don't worry too much about the arch. Keep the underneath clean and plucked, to open the eye, but let the rest flow naturally, to give fullness. Looking at your picture, if you let your brows grow in, you actually will have a natural, beautiful, arch.

Whats a really good deodorant for sweaty armpits?
Please tell me if you've tried it before.

As someone has pointed out, Certain Dri is a great solution. Although I haven't used it, I've used Drysol, which is pretty much the same thing. You put it on at night (not after shaving! this will burn!) a few times a week for the first few weeks, then gradually use it less often. Basically, you shouldn't ever have sweaty armpits, at all or even need to use deoderant. (Haha, although I still do, and I have no clue why.) When the effects wear off, just apply again. Be sure to wash it off the next morning (it can damage clothing if you don't) and follow the instructions!
Hey, if this and nothing else works, there's always surgery! Haha, just kidding, but there is a surgery for this.

Which is better?

http://www.celebrity-hair-styles-magazine.com/images/keira-knightley-short-hair-photos-09.jpg

or

http://www.hairstylesplus.com/veryshorthairstyles/cute-pixie.htm

Ive got it down to these 2 and cant decide, can you guys help me out?

Ok, so they're very similar. The first one is more universally flattering, UNLESS you have a square or round face.

This is because square and round faces (round faces are virtually a circle shape) are always very short and wide. The second style is perfect for a square or round face because of the height on the top of the head for balance, and the assymetry. Imagine someone with a square face and a middle part: they're much better off with a side part for the assymmetry. Also, the pieces down the side of the model's face in the style help to lengthen the face and hide the square face's harsh angles of the jaw.
The first style would be better for a face leaning more towards the rectangle face shape, which is a very tall and thin face. This is because this hairstyle is flat on the top of the head, so as not to emphasize the height of the rectangle face, and the added texture, symmetry and width will create the fullness that a rectangle face sometimes lacks.

If you are unsure, ask the stylist! (I hope he or she is a good one, too. :))

whats a good color for the inner corner of your eye [to brighten it up]

Well, how deep your skin tone is, what undertone you have to your skin, and how bright you want the eye shadow to be are all factors.

Of all on the list, Champagne seems to be the most neutral with a grey undertone as opposed to pink or yellow, so it will probably be the most universally flattering. It also seems to be the lightest which is importand as these colours don't appear to have any shimmer, so this colour should do.
However, if you have extremely pale skin I would go with Metal, as the Champagne might just blend in.

i get really oily skin, is there any home remedies that could make it better? I have bought som products but is there anything else i can do? Because once it gets oily, it is just attracted to dirt and i end up with pimples all over my nose

With oily skin, you really need to think of what the oiliness means. Perhaps it's dehydrated? Try a super hydrating moisturizer that's oil free, make sure your cleanser isn't too harsh, and that your toner doesn't contain alcohol. (Alcohol tightens your pores temporarily but leads to more oil.)
I began to nurture my skin rather than fight it, and I have noticed some changes. I always keep powder or blotting papers on hand, though.

Ok, i'm 13/f and i have a round face shape(or so i've been told ha ha). My hair is long and layered, and I like it, but it's kindof boring now. I like to change my hair a lot, and I get bored with it easily. I am NOT dying it, because I love my hair color and get a lot of compliments. Ok, here's a picture of me. I was thinking i'd get 3-4 inches cut off, maybe so it's right above or right on my shoulders, and getting it super layered, so it's extremely choppy all over. Oh, and I want to get it layered so there is shorter layers on the top, but i'm not sure how to do that. And i'm planning on getting some sort of side fringe... but it'll be layered too. Any thoughts? Suggestions? thanks a bunch! :]

me:
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff196/hitoast/jessicamyspacepic.jpg

oh and these are what my bangs normally look like (i have a horrid bump-nose so i wear my side bangs straightened in front of my face to cover it ha ha)

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff196/hitoast/jessicame.jpg

thanks a bunch! and pics are appreciated too!

Well... I don't think you have a round face. A round face is very close to being circle... it's short, wide, and doesn't have any angles along the jaw line. It's hard to visualize. From your picture I would guess you're near an oval but check around on the internet for a more exact description of different face shapes.

I actually really like your hair cut. If you don't want your face to look too wide (a common problem with round faces), keep some of the length as it weighs your face down, and keep your side part to make it asymmetrical.
I think to give your hair a change choppy layers would be a good idea but no layers above your jaw line, because that usually looks awkward and makes a face look wider.

i bought this dress over the summer and i've lost all of this weight to fit into my size 2 dress. it's the cutest dress ever. it's champagne color and baby pink with a big bow in the front. Of course, my mother doesn't like the dress, because her and I can never agree on something to wear. I'm 16 years old and I don't think I need her approval to wear this dress. it's the most descent dress in the world... it's not like slutty or anything. But, it was more than a dress for me. It's the first time that I'm going to come out of my shell since August. I've been very sad because a lot of people have done things to me, and i haven't been myself. But, I wanted to show myself to the world with this dress because it's who i am. It really represents my personality and it's really me. Yesturday, we went shopping for jewelry, and she ends up buying a whole new dress. I argued with her all of yesturday because I didn't like the jewelry she was picking for the original dress, so I really don't want to talk to her about this because it will instigate another argument and arguments with my mother get me very upset. i really want to try to avoid that. She event old me that when we got home, she didn't want me to tell her that I was wearing the other dress. The other dress was from the spring collection, but it looks kind of Christmassy because of the bow it has in the front. How can I tell her nicely? Because the dress she got me is really nice and everything, but it's not me. I don't want to go with smokey eyes and crazy hair. I want soft curls and light make-up. Why can't she just understand that and let me wear the dress that I want? Please help me..... and please just don't say "talk to her." I need to know what to tell her because she screams at every little thing I say because she's like int he middle of menopause... it's like EVERYTHING has to be her way, and this is MY formal. It's not hers. Please help me!!

Thanks

"Talk to her" Seems to be the only thing I can suggest you do. But, I can also help you do it.

Choose a time when she is alone and doesn't appear to be too busy. If she is, ask her to talk in a few minutes or when she's done whatever she's doing.
"Talk", don't whine, yell, or critisize what she did or the situation. Begin to tell her that you haven't been yourself lately, but now you're finally ready to break out, and that this dress means so much and that you're going to feel absolutely beautiful in it.

If she starts to get "annoying" or angry, don't get annoying and angry back, because this will start an argument. There is NO WAY you can get through this by arguing. Ask her gently why she doesn't want you wearing this other dress. Make the effort to understand her point of view and reassure her. Tell her that you want to FEEL beautiful, and the dress she's chosen for you doesn't have that kind of value to you.

If you think she's starting to understand, ask her if you can wear your dress.

I hope all goes smoothly for you and for your formal.

so many people have converses. has it become conformist to have a pair now?

It shouldn't matter. Don't worry about conforming and don't worry about not conforming.
Trying to be different to one crowd makes you a conformist to another crowd.
If you like converse, they're all yours.

does anyone have any make up tips for me? lol i dont wear make up. also does anyone have advice on how i should get my hair cut? bangs or no? i kinda have a big nose so i want to draw attention away from that as well. thanks for reading :]

Because of your green eyes, a deep or medium, metallic purple or plum would look great across the lid. If you're not willing to use a lot of mascara, an eye lash curler is cheap and makes your lashes look twice as long.
The key to beauty is balance. If you find you have a large nose, the key is balance in the hair. You want volume. A high ponytail or or all-over volume will make your nose appear to be in perfect proportion with your hair, making it appear smaller. Allow your hair to use it's natural curl, body and bounce. If you're planning on keeping your natural curl, ask your stylist to layer it so your natural curls are not weighed down. Ask about products suitable for you, too.
Try not to keep your hair too long, because your chin is smaller. I'd suggest you off one to two inches, so your hair is only a bit longer than your chin. Bangs could work for you, but you might want to keep your forehead open, so your nose doesn't appear to "stick out" from your hair.
Good luck!

I NEED HELP!
For camp, its superhero day soon and I want to make a superhero costume.
She doesnt have to be a real superhero,
but any ideas of who to be or how to make it?
Thanks!

WOO this is so fun. Pick your mission, or colour scheme. (carrot women? Anything that suits your personality will work, really.)

Depending on wacky you're willing to be, you'll want tights or leggings in a crazy colour or black. If you have any plain short shorts made of sweats material put these over top. If not, maybe a skirt, or other shorts. A plain tee or tank matching either the tights or shorts. If you have any, put leg warmers over the tights.

A cape! You need a cape. If anyone in your family can sew, this is real easy. Choose a plain, thin, jersey fabric that matches a part of your outfit. Perhaps one can be found at Value Village or a costume store, too.

If you can't get a cape, at least try to make yourself a mask. Here is a pattern: http://www.makingfriends.com/mask_pattern.htm
Use felt (easily found at craft stores/ fabric stores and often dollar stores.) and again, a colour that matches. Carefully cut this shape out of felt, making sure it is the right size first, and punch two holes on the sides. Attach elastic string and there you go.

Hairdo: two high side pony tails or high side buns, or a really high ponytail. Hair should be gelled back, very sleek. You're a super hero, you can't have any distractions.

To top it off, you can choose a red lipstick.

Contrasting colours work great together for your colour scheme.
-blue and orange, -red and green, -yellow and purple, -pink and green, -black and any bright colour, -black and white- yellow and blue, -red and yellow

ok well my hair right now is like right above my breasts and im getting it cut tomorrow and im looking for really good sites where u can look at styles....what i want is like sort of short like maybe to my shoulder a little past but lots of layers and stuff and i was wondering if any of you guys would have good ideas? oh yeah and u kind of know how some emo girls have there hair cut ( no offence to any one ) but how they have it short and layered i kind of want it like that but not exactly
Thanks!

I can't help you out, but you can check out some sites that will help you decide what styles you would prefer and would look good on you.

http://andreau.blogster.com/best_hairstyles_body_type.html
http://www.visual-makeover.com/face.htm

You can keep what you learned in mind while deciding how your hair can be cut. Knowing how to suit my own face shape and body type, I've created my own hair style that no one has ever seen before and I get comments all the time. My hairstyle isn't weird or wacky, but just right for me, and you can't find it anywhere else. Creating a mixture of hair qualities from the above two sites and your own personal style, you can look your best.

hey i'm a guy hust wondering what kind of hair girls might like- long, short, spiky, whatever. Just say what you would like thanx!

Whatever looks good! I don't care. How often do you hear this: "He's sooo nice and funny... he makes me feel so happy... but I have to break up with him." "Why?!" "Because he has brown hair."

Not too often. (If it ever comes out a girl's mouth it's HER problem.)

Go for a style that you generally like and that you find suits you. If you have mega tight curls maybe you don't want the down to your chin because it's a bit too dramatic for ya, unless, yes, that's YOU. That's your style, go ahead! Who's to tell you not to?

If you're a cool dude, hair is hair. I'm not one to judge a guy based on the little strands sitting on the top of his head there to keep his brains toasty warm.

I went to the beach yesterday and you could see some of my pube hairs sticking out of my bathing suit bottoms. GROSS! I want that hair gone (not the whole thing) and I'm afraid if I shave my bikini line I'll get red bumps and it will hurt. I heard Nair is worse. And waxing hurts!!! So what's the best way to get rid of the hair on my bikini line, shaving, Nair, or something else? (NOT WAXING IT.)

If you're planning on shaving, here are some tips to prevent irritations and red bumps. I have really sensitive skin, and so far I haven't had to many problems!
-There is shaving cream out there for sensitive skin and some for bikini lines. Both should work well.
-You can try trimming the hair you are planning to shave, so less hair gets caught up in the razor causing irritations.
-Safely use a little conditioner on some of the hair to soften it up a bit first. Then wash it off.
-Shave slowly in the direction the hair is growing.
-Use a fresh razor your first time shaving down there.
-If you want, you can use a mirror to make sure you get all the areas you want, and to be safer, too.
-Wear lose underwear afterwards or underwear that doesn't rub or is too tight on your bikini line, to let the skin calm down a bit.

Good luck and have some fun in the sun!

So, I got my period yesterday (it's not my first one) and my periods last like 2 weeks and here's the problem. I'm leaving tomorrow to go to my neighbor's lake house for 6 days and 6 nights. My period will probably be going through the WHOLE time I'm there. The house is a little cottage and the only fun things to do are wakeboard & tube in the water. I haven't been able to wakeboard in 3 weeks because I've been busy and I was so excited and now I probably can't go. I'm thinking about wearing a pad on my bathing suit shorts and some crappy shorts from old navy over them & I'll wakeboard like that. I don't wear tampons, I'm not ready. Is there anything I can eat/do to make my period stop or go by quicker?! If not, what do I wear in the water while I'm tubing besides a tampon?? Ugh, this is such a lousy situation. Please help me. =]

I know exactly how you feel, sometimes things like this get in the way at the wrong time! But you can't really make your period go by quicker. (Although you can drink plenty of water, eat veggies and exercise to make it more comfortable.)
Tampons really would be the best bet (like it's not there!), but if you aren't ready for that, there are other options that are OK, too.
Pads come in all different shapes and sizes and thicknesses. Because pads tend to swell up in the water, pick up some ultra thins in the 'super' or 'long' size tonight. You'll be protected well enough because of the size, but the swelling up with water will be at least kept to a minimum because of the thin-ness.
Over top, get some cute, short board shorts, in either a dark color or black (in case of leaks!). You might even feel more comfortable in them!

I definitely hope you decide to go, because it sounds like you're going to have an awesome time!

i have a darkish blonde hair... liek its blonde on top with brown natural highlights... underneath... would it look good if i get a lightish red hair color highlights?

If you have blue eyes and pale to medium skin I would definitely say no. You've got a cool skin tone, and red wouldn't look too flattering.
Even if you DO have a warm skin tone, I would still be careful because red and blonde don't always complement each other and you might come out looking like it was accident.
I'd suggest you talk to a stylist, about which colours of highlights you could pull off. Cool tones, warm tones, dramatic colours, or naturals... so many choices and you might want the help of a professional when deciding.

My face is ALWAYS red. My dermatalogist said I don't have rosatia. And it's not the sun either. What can I do to get rid of the redness?! :[

I'd suggest checking to see if you have Keratosis Pilaris Rubra Faceii.
http://www.helpforkp.com/keratosis_pilaris_rubra_faceii.html

I have this, although you can't tell in my picture as I was wearing makeup, but it's affected me my whole life. If this is the case, I can't tell you exactly how to fix this, but be gentle to your skin! Try a gentle cleanser such as Aveeno's soothing cleansers with feverfew. They have many products with the soothing and calming feverfew.

I'm a bit "out there" and wacky, and I like doing weird stuff to my hair.
Its about halfway down my boobs, brown, and straight to sometimes wavy.
I want to do more things to it...
can you give me ideas?
I already do spiky side buns, Princess Leia buns, pigtails, side braids, hair up with chopsticks and of course just parting it differently.
Any other ideas?

If you want to add some colour to your hairstyles try spiker colorzĀ® by Joico. It's like gel that you can put on the tips of your hair to add super vibrant colour. It washes it out with shampoo and comes in so many colours including Metallic.
They're easy to find at a lot of hair salons and they don't cost too much.
I used to have super long hair and always had fun figuring out what to do with it.

For some other hairstyles (I've included links)
Try:
-fishtail braids:http://www.seventeen.com/hair-skin-makeup/hair-ideas/fishtail-braid-hi-0407
-a big flower:http://www.seventeen.com/hair-skin-makeup/hair-ideas/fishtail-braid-hi-0407

How do I become more fashionable.. I'm a guy, and no... I'm not gay. But I wanna be more fashionable, but not like preppy fashionable.. just like being able to have a good sense of style.. I like all colors except like baby blue pink and pastelish colors... And my favorite kind of shoes are Vans Slip-ons.. and I have a pair to match all of my clothes so far.. but I just need some clothes that will look good on me, and will match... Could you suggest any stores that aren't preppy i.e. American Eagle, Abercrombie, etc.

This isn't a full answer but I would suggest you check out American Apparel. If you haven't already they have millions of styles of plain T-shirts in millions of colours.

Whats the best way to get rid of blackheads?

thanks

See a dermatologist, or get a mini facial. They can help you out with what products are actually safe and effective for your skin.
Blackhead nose strips can damage your skin, and strip it of natural oils, creating more oil. Not to mention they can only take out 2-3 blackheads.
Extractors, if used incorrectly (and they most often are!) can do real damage to your skin creating red marks, and scars. Although, these are very effective when used properly.
Too much scrubbing will not fix blackheads either.

See a dermatologist, or get a mini facial. She will probably do some extracting (safely). And you can ask about how exactly to use an extractor and which are some good products to use. These products probably won't get rid of your blackheads, but can keep your skin clean and healthy.

[view]

Do black head strips realyl work? Do they damage your skin? Are they really expensive?

are pore strips the exact same thing?

if you use pore strips can they get rid of black heads too?

I've been warned by many dermatologists not to use these black head strips. You might occasionally get two small blackheads out, and that's it. Blackhead strips do more damage to your skin than you think. They peel off a lot of dead skin, perhaps skin that your body is not fully ready to get rid of yet. They can also strip your skin of it's natural oils, maybe causing it to produce more oils, which can lead to cause more blackheads.
I'd suggest you set up an appointment to get a mini facial and ask her what kind of routine/products she would recommend to keep your skin under control and HEALTHY. (After a quality facial, which doesn't mean at a hair salon, your skin should look and feel great.)
