Okay, so me and my friend want to make a band. Him and I are going to do guitar and vocals. We already started making guitar parts and writing lyrics. I've been playing for almost a year. I highly prefer to use notes and power chords. I don't know specific chords, and I do not like how most sound. But he knows them. He's okay with me not liking them, but other people constantly get on my case about not doing regular chords. It makes me want to learn them less. And why do people hate power chords so much? I've heard people say there's no talent in them. But c'mon, is a song good because it's "hard to play"? or because it sounds good? I know that guitar would probably be easier if I learned organised chords, but I don't want to, I have nothing to prove to them, I just want to make a good sound along with my friend and future members with other instruments. Do I really need to use regular chords if I want to be successful? We're doing like a hard-rock-punkish sound (NO SCREAMING lol) Maybe one or two, but majority will be singing like a human. But yeah, any advice? (link)
The fact of the matter is, that you're making music because you like it, and want to do it.

If powercords are your thing: stick to it! You're not making music for people to judge you, or to prove yourself. You are making music for the value of music in itself. If however, the sound of proper cords goes better with the type of music you want to play, then there may be some logic in learning them.

But if powercords are your thing, and you enjoy the sound, then carry on my dear.
