So i want to be a psychologist and i wanna study that in college. Im not sure yet what kind of psych i wanna be but i have been thinking about child psych for a while now.
I am wondering what the basic courses are that you would take in college? and is it really hard? or is it just a lot of memorization? Please be specific, thanks!! :)
Hello! I'm currently majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in psych. I'm only a freshman, but I have all the courses I need to take planned out and I've looked into all them, so I'll share with you the information I have.
Though it depends on the school, you should start out taking general education classes. Those being your basic math, english, biology and history classes. That's what I'm currently doing so I get all of that stuff done and out of the way and can focus on only the classes specified for my major as I continue on in school. For psych, you really don't need higher level math. If I wasn't majoring in Neuroscience, I could stop taking math after I finished the semester of trig I'm currently taking. Make sure to take english classes though, as those are definitely required for virtually any major.
To major in psych (because I also looked into a major, but decided on a minor after I found Neuroscience) you take a lot of psych classes (obviously!). I'd rather not list them, so here are the required classes for my school's Bachelor in Psychology program:

I've taken a few basic psych classes, and they are a lot of memorization. It's not hard for me because I'm completely interested and in love with this stuff, so I don't have a problem studying and reading a lot. Overall, I think you're choosing an excellent major and I wish you the best of luck! If you need any more help, feel free to send me an inbox :)
