I've been under an unusual amount of stress in the past month, I had to move back from Utah to Texas due to me and my best friend having issues, we are no longer friends, I had to move away from my boyfriend, and now I'm back at home with my parents, and they're going through a tough divorce right now, and my mom has been very uncooperative. In the past week or two I started to get flickering lights in my peripheral vision, and it's usually triggered whenever I'm anxious. I'm not sure if it's just from all the stress or anxiety or if it might be drug related. I have done mushrooms once, lsd once (a low dose), ecstasy twice, and I used to smoke weed regularly.
Also, my dad has been giving me low doses of Lorazapam (Ativan) to help me with my anxiety, and it usually makes "the flickers" go away, also I've started running again and when I run for longer periods of time the symptoms usually don't come back for a while. I was also prescribed pheneregan (sp?) about 2 weeks ago, and I was supposed to be taking it every few hours for a few days, but it made me feel really sore and groggy and I would sleep for a pretty long time. I managed to only take half of what was given to me so sometimes I take it at night to help me sleep, because I've been having a really hard time sleeping.

I used to (and still do, occasionally) get something similar, but closer to sudden "flashes" instead of flickers.

I doubt it's drug-related, since my drug history is slightly less colorful and I still get them. It could be anxiety related, but diagnosing yourself is pretty dangerous stuff, and having people over the internet diagnose you isn't much better.

If it's not bothering you too much, I wouldn't bother going to the emergency room for it. Even if it is bugging you, see a doctor, but the emergency room is probably overdoing things.

(Rating: 5) Thanks, yeah flashes/flickers pretty much the same. I agree with you on the emergency room part, I actually went last week for a really bad panic attack, I thought I was dying. I'm pretty sure the stress and anxiety trigger it, I don't know why I'm flickering, my dad is an optometrist and suggested it may be an ocular migraine. I have an appointment with a therapist pretty soon so hopefully I'll get some advice from him, but thanks for reassuring me, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's experienced these.
