i need to learn how to do a cartwheel, and a backhandspring~ A)because i think it would be really fun to learn how to do it and B)- because its the requirements for cheerleading squad...i didnt make it this year but im trying out next year.. i dont really want to go to a gymanstics place so im trying to teach myself and i pritned out some instructions online but i really need some step by step instructions (remember:im a beginner an im really afriad of getting hurt) i REALLY appreciate your help!!!

Okay, well I'm a gymnastics coach, and I really hope you'll take my advice. For the cartwheel, it's fine to practice at home. But for the back handspring... you really should NOT try to learn that on your own. You could break a wrist, an arm, or even your neck! Besides that, you won't learn it correctly on your own... you need good instruction!

Please, find a gymnastics or cheer gym and take a tumbling class. All gyms have beginning tumbling classes, and they are FULL of middle school and high school girls who want to learn flip flops for cheer tryouts. You will not be the only one just learning! And trust me... no one is gonna make fun of you or think badly of you for being a beginner! Everyone in the gym is used to seeing girls who are just learning... that's what gyms are for!

Also, if you really want to get your back handspring for tryouts, start NOW! Even with the best instruction, it can take several months to learn. The sooner you get started, the better. I can't tell you how many times I've had girls come to me in a panic because they HAVE to learn a flip flop by "next week!" And I have to tell them, sorry, that just aint gonna happen!

So do yourself a favor... find a gym and take a class. You'll be soooooo glad you did!
