I am on the way to losing weight. I walk, I dance, and I do yoga. My problem is, my godmother put me on a diet, and she told me no carbs. WHAT, exactly, should I be eating in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle? (I know you're probably tired of answering this question, so I'm sorry!)
A healthy lifestyle means a healthy mix of nutrients. I know that the low/no carb thing is a craze but it is beginning to die out and most people eventually wind up failing on it anyway because it's not meant to be long term though people try and make it that way.
No carb diets are good for people who don't work out or those who don't exert themselves virtually at all when they exercise. People think they work wonders because you lose inches fast, but these inches are not fat it's just water weight because of a process with water in glycogen that I don't really wanna explain because its detailed lol. That is not my idea of balanced nutrition and exercise. Since you are pretty active- you need carbs; it's your body's main energy source. If you don't eat carbs then your body will begin to tap into muscle protein for energy- breaking down every muscular gain you have made. Some fat will be metabolized but not nearly as much as there will be when there is a balance of carbs and fat.
Two words are what is important with weight loss and it isn't "Low carb" or "No fat" its "Insulin Management". Learning how to eat is just as important as learning what to eat. Stick to lots of protein from fish, chicken, beef and eggs and slow digesting carbs early in the day (oatmeal, pasta) and fast digesting later in the day (Rice, fruit).
I promise you that there are no tricks or gimmicks. It's just hard work and good common sense eating.
(Rating: 5) thanks so much! My mom just got home from a trip, and she will put me on "portion control" so that i'm not eating a lot of what i'm not supposed to. Thanks a lot!
