tommorow i am auditioning for into the woods at my middle school (13/f). I REALLY REALLY want to be little red riding hood and i guess my second choice is cinderella. I am about 5'5'' or 5'6'' and my friend said im too tall to play little red. is that true? and does anyone have any tips on auditions or the part itself (its only a reading audition this one)
thanks!
Red Riding Hood is a wonderful role. I don't know about your level of experience, but if you don't have a lot of singing experience, I would recommend that you audition for Red instead of Cinderella. Cinderella is an emotionally and vocally complex role to pull off……..and being too tall doesn’t matter. In middle school, nobody really cares what you look like for a school play. Heck, I've heard of a blonde girl playing Maria in West Side Story........
Here is my best advice on auditions:
*Make sure you look presentable. Wash your face (....in case you don't do this anyways?) and put your hair out of your eyes. The audience can't see your expression as well if they can't see your entire face. But don't over-dress, because that gives off a bad image as well. Just dress normally and look well groomed enough.
*Get a good night's sleep the night before. I know that this is a cliche and your mom tells you this all the time, but take it from me.......a good night's sleep is REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT!!!!! If you don't have full energy the next day, your chances of getting the role are very slim.
*Use LOTS of facial expression, even if you're just reading. It gives a good impression.
*Riding Hood is an annoying brat; imagine someone that you know who's like her, and act like the person.
*Really think about the line before you say it. Think like the character.
Have a nice audition! If you feel like it, tell me how it goes!
(Rating: 5) omgsh! the auditon went horrible! i felt like the director had alrede cast the show b4 we walked in, and we didn't even audition for the director! it pissed me off! thanks for the advice though
