My husband and I are very much in love. We also have a 3 year old daughter. Now, my question is, how can we still have sex without getting a surprise? My attention is always on her and she constantly wakes up during the night. A problem is that we live in NY, and not a single family member lives here, so we don't have any help. All advice is appreciated, thank you!
My daughter usually sleeps through the nights now, but before she did, we had a little game we played to insure some "personal" time.
I would tell her that if she could stay in bed for however long (half hour, hour), I'd come check on her. If she was still awake afterwards, we'd read a favorite book or rock in the chair. If she was asleep when I came to check on her, she would get an extra-special treat the next day (McDonald's breakfast, trip to the park).
Once that started working, she would only get a special little treat if she stayed in bed all night. Sometimes I'd let her stay up a little late for popcorn and a movie if she promised to stay in bed. But then if she got up, I'd put one of her bed-time toys in "time-out" all night. The toy didn't get out until she spent a whole night in bed.
I had an idea I was about to try but I never had to, since she started staying in bed. We would've kept a big jar. Everytime she slept a whole night, she'd get a white poker chip. Any time she got up only once she's get a red chip. If she got up more than once, she'd lose a chip evertime she got up. Then at the end of the week, she could cash in her poker chips. The more chips the bigger the reward, until she gets a jar with all white chips, when she would get a HUGE reward...like trip to the zoo.
