How do we know the Bible is real? Because Jesus never wrote anything down Himself.
Please don't answer this by saying "Because it says so in the Bible." I am really groping for spiritual guidance and need concrete answers.
I definately believe in God and sort of believe Jesus was God but just have trouble believing the Bible.
Please help me! (link)

First of all, the Bible is the Word of God and must be approached with faith, but I will lay out some practical points to help you understand. The Bible was written over a 1600 year period, covering 60 generations, has over 40 writers that God used from many areas in the world, involves a variety of literary styles, and covers hundreds of controversial subjects. In spite of these factors, the Bible is a single , unified book with a single, unfolding theme concerning God's redemptive plan for mankind.
The Bible has stood the test of time and still remains the all-time best seller in human history. Billions of copies have landed in the hands of people for generations.
Not a single scientfic fact or discovery has ever disproven a biblical statement. For example, the Bible revealed that the earth was round 2,200 years before the 15th century explorers discovered the world wasn't flat. (Isaiah 40:22)
A big proof that the Bible is the authoritative Word of God is the fulfillment of the prophecy of Jesus Christ. There are 332 specific prophecies in the old testament which were literally fulfilled by Jesus. Some examples are: Born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2/Luke 2:4-7) Born of the tribe of Judah (Genisus 49:10/Luke 3:23,33) Born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14/Matthew 1:18,24,25).......and so on. The odds of just 48 of the 332 prophecies being fulfilled through one person are 1in 10 to the 157th power (which is a one with 157 zeros after it). Let me explain the magnitude of this. Imagine the state of Texas being covered with silver dollars that are 2 feet deep. One of the silver dollars is marked with a big red X. A blindfolded individual is sent to Texas and told to pull out the marked coin on the first try. The fact that Jesus fulfilled the 332 prophecies proves that God Himself established the issue of prophectic fulfillment as a legitimate test of the Bible as the Word of God. (Isaiah 41:21-23,26)
One of the most profound proofs that the Bible is the divine authorship of God is the life changing impact on lives of men and women, the course of history, and the destiny of nations. Personally speaking, Jesus has changed my life. His transforming power is phenominal. The Bible is the Word of God and Jesus is the Word of God in the flesh. (John 1:1-5)

Did you vote for Bush because he is an uber-Christian? Or was it mainly for abortion? Are you a one issue voter? (link)
|
Abortion is a big issue, and needs to be stopped, but it's not the only reason I voted for Mr. Bush. I voted for President Bush because he shares my
values. I don't vote for someone solely because they profess to be a Christian. Senator Kerry talked much about being an alter boy and attends Catholic mass, but his ultra-liberal stance (and voting record) on many issues undermine what he says he believes.

Why am I poor? (link)
|
"Poor" is relative. If you're speaking of
your finances- you obviously have a computer and
electricity; many people in the world would say that
makes you rich. Many people don't know where their
next meal is coming from, lacking clothing and
shelter. I know of many people who lack the things we deem as "needs" in this country and are much happier than most Americans.
|
Do you think the United States will become a theocracy is Bush and Co. are allowed to pass enough crazy legislation? (link)
|
No. The constitution provides protection against
that occurring. People came to this country to get
away from governmental religion. I don't want the
government to tell me how, where, or whom to worship
any more than you do. I can't imagine what sort of
"crazy legislation" would threaten that.
|
this is regarding the other person's question: i think everyone goes to heaven because Jesus died for the sins of ALL not only those who accept Him. (link)
|
What do you base your thinking on? Jesus died so all would have the opportunity for eternal life in heaven. The Bible clearly states that you must accept Him to obtain salvation. Mark 16:16 and John 3:16 are just a few of the many references.
|
Are you in favor of the death penalty? Because wouldn't it be a conflict of interest to be against abortion but in favor of the death penalty? (link)
|
Whether I am in favor of the death penalty or not has no bearing on abortion. Abortion is the murdering of innocent children - children who have no way of protecting themselves. These children are in a place of desperation and need a voice to stand up and say STOP. The Bible says in Proverbs 31:8, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." Throughout history, the death penalty has been used as punishment for criminals. Children in the womb are not criminals.

Did you vote for Bush or Kerry? (link)

I voted for Bush.

I feel lately that I am a fake Christian. I say I believe in Jesus, God, etc., but I just am not very knowledgable about Christianity on the whole. All I know is, when I'm talking to God, or the few times I go to church, I am very happy, because I do know that God and Jesus love me. And my family - they all believe and everything, we're just not the most religious people, I guess. But I realize that we need to truly accept Jesus into our hearts in order to enter Heaven, and I don't even feel truly like I've done that yet. I've never brought it up with my family, but I really want all of us to get to know God and Jesus so that I can expect to meet them in Heaven, because this is kind of a priority. But how do I do this without basically saying, "Okay, here we go, we are going to believe in this whether you like it or not"? I know that sometimes people get kind of offended because they think I force my ideas about religion upon them... Sorry for the long question - I rate! (link)
|
This question tells me it's the desire of your heart to know Jesus. Psalm 37:4 says, Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Knowing Jesus is not about being relgious. I used to be religous until I realized there is absolutely nothing I can do to be saved. The Bible says, It is by Grace alone and not by anything I do or don't do. Going to church won't save ya. Baptism, confirmation, first communion and any other religous acts won't save ya. Not even believing God exists can produce salvation. James 2:19 says Even the demons believe and shutter. Demons are not going to heaven. Knowing Jesus is having a relationship with Him. Being a child of God is accepting His Son Jesus as a gift. Then and only then can you please God and be called His child.
Now having said all that, seek Him, wrestle through it. This will take faith. Jesus will meet you where you are if you don't give up. He is seeking worshipers who will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. Read the Bible and pray for the Lord to speak to you through it. His Word will not return void. Once you receive the peace you seek, you will have the spiritual protection to confront your family.
On a side note, the Truth of God's Word offends people. The Bible says in Second Corinthians 2:15-16,"For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and perishing. To one we are the smell of death and to the other the fragrance of life." In other words, you will offend those who are not open to Christ. That's okay. Just don't accept it into your spirit as a personal attack. It's Jesus they hate. I'm sure there will be those who are offended by this advice. Let me know how you're doing.

my parents get mad at me whenever i say something about religion that doesnt agree with their views. they tell me im to young to have an opinion about that kind of stuff. and i do. and im not that good at communicating. so should i just tell them that i believe in god? even though i have doubts?
thanks. (link)
|
No you should not tell them you believe in God if you have doubts. I don't know how old you are, but questioning about God is apart of growing up. God the Father sent His Son Jesus to die for us so that we could have a personal relationship with Him. This is a gift that not everyone accepts. It takes faith and from what you're saying, it sounds like you are trying to find faith. I don't know what religion your parents are, but I'm going to assume they're Christian. There comes a point that a child brought up in a Christian home needs to come out from under his/her parents Christian faith and claim a faith of their own. Hopefully the seeds that the Christian parents have sown in their child will take root and grow. It's a true Christian parent's hope that their children will come to know Jesus. This may be where you're at. I challenge you to read the bible and pray, tell God about your doubts, then decide. Let me know if there's something I can do for you.

I am a 35 yr old Christian with Christian parents and wish to help my parents financially. My Mom has no job experience, other trying to be an Avon lady when I was a kid, got chased by a Doberman and quit. She's a mother that's all she knows how to do. My parents have raisied 6 children and 1 grandchild, he is a jr in high school. My Dad receives a very small disability check and now a little social security from a work related injury 10yrs ago and forced into early retirement (which is all gone now) He has had several back surgeries and still not in real good physical shape. He has to have cortizone shots all the time just to unstiffen. For extra income he mows lawns in his neighborhood, but it is just killing him. He's stubborn. But now that has slowed down due to the season change and honestly I'm not sure that next spring he will be able to do it anymore. My nephew, that my parents are raising, needed braces, has an upcoming school band trip in February..etc, etc, etc. For the first time, my Mom called us all and said no Christmas this year, we can't afford it! That's ok it's time we (my 4 sisters and 1 brother) take on the Christmas event. I am about to receive a $10,000 commisson check thru work (biggest yet-and rare)...how and how much should I give them? They will take it eventually (after refusing due to pride) but how do I go about presenting it to them without making them feel bad, or depressing my Dad for not being able to provide like he always has. My Dad can't get life insurance due to medical problems and I know they have not planned for the future (life insurance, death,etc.). Since there are so many of us kids, they were never able to set back $. Honestly, I am the only child that can afford to do this for them, I just want to do it right and find a way to make sure they are financially comfortable. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Wow! I believe it's no coinsidence that you suddenly have money to be able to do this. It's 100 percent biblical to take care of your parents. The question is how.
As I read your situation, the first thing that came to my mind is "be an angel". If pride is standing in their way, it will be difficult to just hand them the money. God will have to break that in them. But being an angel would take you out of the equation. If no one knows about it, you could be a servant that is laying up treasure in heaven. How awesome! Little things are the best. For instance, pay their utility bills ahead of time so when they get the bills, there's no balance. Or pay the dental bill in secret and by money order. Or leave groceries on the door step. The creativity is endless.
I'm sure they will mention the angelic miracles, you can then say, "The Lord is obviously providing."
What a mission you have been given. Take it very seriously and pray every step of the way. The Lord will lead you into how much should be given. You must have been faithful in many small things to have been given this responsibility. Continue to be faithful. What a wonderful ministry!

I luve my boyfriend Jason and I know he is the one for me we have been together for 1 year and 2 months and we have been talking about having sex but my parents are very strict and I can't talk to them about it so I need some help pleaze help luve ya! (link)
|
I pondered your question for quite awhile. It hurts me to see someone in the situation you're describing because I've been there. Don't do it! If you truly love eachother, sex can wait. I didn't wait and I raised my son alone for most of his life. My boyfriend and I dated over a year too. I was convinced he loved me, but when I got pregnet, he wanted nothing to do with me or his son. Please don't do it! There are so many more risks out there these days than getting pregnet. Deadly risks! I pray wisdom for both of you.

Ok so here is the deal i wanna tell people about god. and i know that it is a good thing andi have planned to sing at this years talent show. like a gossple song i dunno what i am gunna sing but i do know i am gunna do it but what i don't know to do is
how to show people that i am a strong christian.
how do i approach people into asking god into there lives and stuff
thnx
(link)
|
Bless your heart! There are many beliefs in gods that are leading people straight to hell, but there is only one who saves and that is Jesus Christ. Since you say you are a strong Christian, I am going to assume you mean Jesus Christ when you say, "asking god into their lives".
First of all, singing is a wonderful idea! I suggest you seriously pray about which song to sing. The Lord will lay on your heart the one that will touch your audience. Sing to the Lord with all you got! (Jer. 20:13 Sing to the LORD! Give praise to the LORD! He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked.) Keep your focus on Him.
We as Christians have two weapons that the evil one can not stand up against - the Bible which is the Word of God and our personal testimony. Tell people what the Bible says and what the Lord has done in your life. (Isa. 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. ) That passage means whatever you say from God's Holy Word and what He has done in your life, will not return empty. You may never know how the Lord will use it. Perhaps it will play in the minds of those you witness to, to the point that they share what you said with someone else and that person is the one the that comes to know Jesus. Remember, people have to make the choice, so don't get discouraged. People may not accept it, but they will not have an excuse that they never heard it.
As far as the approaching part, always look for opportunity. When an opportunity arises, pray for the Lord's guidance and go for it. There are practical things like wearing Christian tee shirts, carrying your bible. Don’t be ashamed. (Jesus speaking: Mark 8:38 "If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.")
When someone states a religious belief, ask them what they base that on. (Most people have no bases for what they believe. It just sounds good to them so they believe it.) Don’t be afraid to be different than those who don't know Christ. You are different. Wonderfully different because you have a hope that you desire to pass to them. Make sure you have fellow Christians praying for you. I will be.

im really confused.im a catholic and bieleve in everything it teaches.iv been baptised and confermed too.but i also beilieve in abortion.i think women should have the right to choose if they want.is this a sin? does this mean im goin to hell? pleaz answer. (link)

Christianity means "follower of Christ". You say you are catholic, but are you a follower of Christ? If you are, you will be in heaven some day. If you are not, you won't. Hell will be the place for those who do not accept God's free gift of Grace through Jesus Christ. Salvation does not come from baptism. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward faith and that's all. Confirmation is an outward confession of an inward belief and that's all that is. If you are baptized and confirmed without inward faith in Jesus, those outward things mean absolutely nothing.
Having said all of that, let's address the abortion issue. Since you put this in the Spiritual catagory, I am going to answer this according to the Bible.
Psalm 139:13 says "For you created my inmost being: you knit me together in my mother's womb."
A baby is a baby from conception. A women's right to choose came before sex.
Proverbs 31:8 says "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." I can't think of more down and out soul that needs the help of those who can speak up than a baby that is facing death by abortion.
The Bible says in Deut. 5:17 "You shall not murder." Therefore murder by abortion is a sin.
I am going to leave you with this thought: What if your mother would have chosen to abort you?

So what do you all eat when you are fasting? I am having a difficult time cutting out meat and cheese. I can manage to do without the meat, but I didn't realize how much cheese and yogurt played into my life. Any tips? (link)
|
First, you need to understand what fasting is and the reason someone fasts. Fasting means to go without food so when the body is in a place of weakness the person's spirit can commune with God. It is an intimate, special, very important time with God. Something that is not to be taken lightly. As a Born Again Christian, I fast when I am seeking God in prayer about a direction I need to go or when I am praying for someone else that requires special attention. If it is in your heart to fast because you want to commune with God, then go for it. The Bible says to wash your face and comb your hair so that no one knows you are fasting. This is something between you and God, no one else. So, if you truly want to fast, forget the cheese and everything else and commune with God.
Just for a side note, the word breakfast comes from the concept "to break the fast". That's why we eat breakfast in the morning - to break the fast of not eating all night.

So, My really good friend just commited suicide and I really wanna read up on reancarnation. Does anyone know any really good books about that? (link)
|
I am sooo sorry to hear about your friend. But I absolutely agree with blu. Reincarnation is bogus. The Bible IS the answer. Explore it. Ever since I discovered the Truth from the Bible, nothing has been able to stand against it. It's like the people who stop counterfeiters from making fake money. They don't study every counterfeiting possiblity, they study the real thing so when a counterfeit dollar shows up they know it. The Bible is the real thing, reincarnation is a counterfeit. I encourage you to find the comfort you seek by opening the Word of God.
I'll be praying for you.

Amanda,
Since you mentioned Joyce Meyers, I am going to assume the possiblity that you're a Christian. If that is so, the best place to learn alot about writing and to meet authors is joining Fellowship of Christian Writers. They have a free email yahoo group that has wonderful people of all writing levels. I have been a member for nearly 2 years now and have learned more than I could say. That is only one of many ways to get plugged in. As far as grammar, write;write;and write some more. Courses can help in learning the rules, but applying is what will make you a better writer.
God Bless!

I am a 14-year old gurl and I applied for a $250 scholarship to a writing camp this summer and I won it! I am attending a one-week writing camp in Michigan...which is over 6 hours away. I am wondering if you can give me some hints/tips on writing(all different techniques such as poetry..short stories, etc...)...and also some topics! (I write a lot of poetry and am well-known for it too) Thanks! (link)
|
Ahhh....writing. I do it every day. That's the key. Get into the habit and you will learn what you're good at and what you like.
Topics come from anything. Stare at a spider spinning a web. Watch people and how they interact in a public place. Write about your past, your relationships, your dog. Topics are endless. The hard part sometimes is choosing which one.
I started by taking a writing course. Going to camp is going to be a good place for you to learn and discover. There are yahoo groups for writers. I belong to a few. It's a good place to ask questions and get writing opportunities. I got a two year contract to write a fiction column for a newspaper through a yahoo group. I know there are teen groups.
If you want to view some of my sample writing or just want to talk writing, check out my website.

Barb,
Since you've talked to your mom & grandma and they didn't understand what you're feeling, I have one suggestion. Try praying. Jesus wants to hear all about your hurt and He wants to dry thoses tears. He loves you very much and He will never leave you alone. He can also change your mom's heart and dad's heart and show them you are more important than their work. Trust Him, Barbara, Jesus wants to be your best friend. Be sure to write me and tell me all about what Jesus did. 'k?

Hi there. I'm 16/f and my boyfriend and I have been dating for almost two years. We started dating about 4 months into my freshman year (he's a year older than me) and I am going to be a junior this fall. While I like him a lot I don't feel that people our age should spend their entire highschool career with one person for the simple reason that highschool is a time when you're supposed to experience things. (To a certain extent mind you). I have vaguely talked to him about this issue and he agreed with me and also said that he would completely understand a "break" as long as we were on good terms (which we would be...he is my best friend), and we both believe in the whole "If you really love something let it go..." thing. However, when I think of breaking up with him I feel overwhelmingly guilty because he has been so good to me. (He's the first boyfriend I've had that has lasted this long, and also the first who hasn't "screwed me over", so to speak). I guess what I'm asking is why do I feel guilty? and would it be completely insensitive of me to break up with him? and what would be the best way to do it (on the phone in person...etc)? (link)
|
It sounds like the guilt is stemming from the fact that you know hurt is inevitable no matter what you decide.
I don't know your complete situation obviously, but from what you have written, it seems you have a good head on your shoulders. It also appears you have somewhat of an understanding of how serious it is to have a relationship with someone.
However, when you say that you believe people your age shouldn't spend their high school careers with one person, I hope you don't mean that it's better to shop around - to go from relationship to relationship. (Especially since you have personally felt the hurt of break ups) First you've been hurt and now you're faced with the decision to possibly hurt someone else. Having said that, I want to ask you, is it worth it? Is that the pattern you want to establish? Things don't have to be that way. Take a stand from what is considered "normal" today and let love wait.
He has already indicated he would understand if a break up took place. If that is what you decide, do it face to face. Over the phone is cowardly and would cause more harm to him than anything.
