Q: How can i get the IP address of someone that has asked me a question... that is harassing me... the only info i have is the question itself...?

You need to fill out an abuse report, with a link to the "answer question" page for anything you've gotten that you're concerned about. We'll look up the IP and deal with it as necessary.

Q: I recently tried to submit an answer, and I never use chatspeak words. But it wouldn't let me submit the answer because of words like "apply" with "ppl" in red because apparently the detector thought I was using chatspeak.

oops, sorry! I've been beefing it up lately and missed that one. It's fixed now; let me know if there are any other normal words that it's catching.

Q: How do I become a Level 2 or 3 moderator? I've looked around alot for an answer, but cant seem to find one. Sorry if this is a repeat question!

Q: When you 'browse columnists' and you can see people that have the little gold star next to their name, what does that mean? how can you get that next to your name?

They're paid accounts. If you click on the gold star, it takes you to a page describing how you can get one and all the exciting features that open up to you when you do.

Q: Chatspeak detected. Type in English please. I type an anwser but this comes up then i don't get that answer added to my advice column! Please tell me a way to fix this.

Q: How do I know that the person whose question I answered, actually read my answer? I don't care about feeback, or ratings, I just would like to know that they read it.

Paid users can see if there are any unread answers to a question, but that's it. I'll keep this in the idea vault, so to speak, as a possible item to add later for everyone.

Q: Hello- Whenever I click "View Feedback" on my advice column, it only shows 5 of my ratings, but I've really been rated 18 times. How can I have it that it shows ALL of my ratings (even the ones without the comments)?

We don't think that the casual visitor cares to see your ratings without comments, because it's boring.

I did, however, add the "your feedback" link to the side column to address your (and other's) concern. It basically takes you to the feedback calculation page, which I edited to show all your ratings and breakdown which ones apply to your rating. Hope it helps!

Q: I think people should vote for what kind of questions are deleted.I think there should only be only 1000 questions and when there is a new question the 1000th question gets deleted.
Every one deserves help.You can't argue this is fairer than deleting people's questions because you have a very low openion of them

People do vote for what questions are deleted. It takes three moderators to delete most questions, unless they're spam.

Go make your own site and you can let everyone ask all the questions they want and never delete anything, and be more popular than yahoo, you'll show me I'm sure.

Q: I was just wondering, if someone was being abusive to a columnist who was a level two, would they need to submit an abuse report or could they deal with it themselves? I was just interested for future reference.

They can just deal with it... no reason so submit a report if you're sure it's an issue.

Q: i just got banned from spamming, but the thing was...i didn't know you weren't allowed to spam. like you may think that i'm joking but i'm really not, i saw these five girls' columns and all of them seemed really good at advice and had high ratings. so i asked each one of them the same question. then i got banned. i'm sorry but i don't really think that's fair because i didn't even know!!!

First, you should have read the FAQ.

Q: the way which rating is done people do not like to see those questions nor do they like answering those questions that get rated high because they are genrally boring.A lot of questions get deleted and a lot of people get upset.A lot of more people will get less upset get their probbloms solved and be happy!but that's not what you want is it?

If everyone was upset, I'd do something about it, but everyone's not upset. You're upset. Thousands of people come to this site every day and make suggestions and most people think we're quite fair about what we keep around and what we delete. They're not upset, they're fine, so I'm not going to change just for you.

Q: I changed my password, came back 30 minutes later and refreshed my screen and I no longer have any moderator status... not lvl 2 or even 1. Is this a clitch with the system? Or am I not needed anymore?

the password thing is a coincidence... it looks to me like you didn't update your column for 30 days, so your rating was erased, so your mod status was removed. I could reset it, but the script will just take it away again when it runs.

I don't think it'd be fair for the script to leave you out when we have this requirement on all the other moderators. Answer questions, get a real rating, and we'll re-promote you, but it'll take a while. sorry.

Q: how come the ratings we get without comments don't show up anymore?

It was a suggestion that I talked about in moderator forums and everyone there seemed to like it, so I just made the change. It's boring to just see a page of numbers, so this way it's more like a "guestbook".

They're everywhere BUT your inbox. Click "Give Advice" at the top, or "view questions" on the side, or you can search questions or browse them by topic.

i don't understand...were those private questions?

I only checked two of them, but the ones I checked were both private. Anything that shows up in your inbox is private.

Q: I think the questions which people like to read and answer ahould be rated high so that people like the site more.The idea of this site was great but this is why it pisses people off sometimes
1-Questions which are common should not be deleted because
many people ask them and therefore more people's questions get deleted.Columnists can answer those questions well.therefore more people get pissed off
2-interesting questions which other people will want to know the answer to should not know the answer to.eg:Why do peopl laugh when they are happy or see someone embarresed and why do tears come when people are sad?
3-short questions should not be deleted
4-gossippy questions should not ge deleted
eg:Witch/devil

and when questions are deleted it shouldn't be written in red because that makes people angry and they repeat their questions.This way a lot less people will get pissed of with this site a lot more people will like the site and a lot more people will have their probbloms solve and be happy too.Rating should not be done on the moderators openion of a person but a columnist's openion of the question

Can you show me a feedback rating that applies to a public question? I looked on your column and didn't find any. If the question went straight to your inbox, by the way, it's not a public question.

Q: I was looking at my feedback and someone gave me a 5. I forgot what question I asnswered so I clicked on the link and it showed me my question and an answer. But the answer wasnt mine! It was from this other girl but not me!!! What could've happened?

This should be fixed now, but I'd need the URL of the link you clicked to know for sure.

Q: Where would I insert CSS for my advice column? I see alot of columns with it so I know it can be done but I'm not sure where. They aren't paid accounts but they still have it on there. I tried putting it in the "About Me" section since it says HTML is allowed but that's not working. Please only answer if you know. I will rate 5's to people who tell me.

There's not really a good way to do it. You can change colors on the "column settings" page, and I thought about having a box where you could put in CSS, but I've always assumed most people on the site weren't smart enought to handle it. I'll put it on the suggestion list though.

This advice column is for suggestions, comments, or error reporting about advicenators. If you'd like to suggest a new category, ask me a question. If you'd like to whine, bitch, or complain about advicenators, you may whine, bitch, or complain to me.

Three rules though:
1) Do not ask me for life advice. We have several thousand other members that do that.

2) Do not ask for help, or ask how to do something, or ask about
how something on the site works, unless you've read every word of our help pages and you're sure it's not addressed there.

3) Do not ask me to ban someone or investigate abuse. We have an entire abuse system set up for that.

If you disobey one of these rules, I'll delete your question.

Some guidelines about suggestions:
If you offer a suggestion that I find interesting, I might just ignore your question so it stays in my inbox as a reminder of something to do. Don't be upset that I don't answer you, and don't delete your questions (because then I'll forget!)

If you have three suggestions, please ask three separate questions, that way I can address each one individually. It's a real pain when people ask one question with like twenty different topics in it; I can't keep them straight.
