Can anyone recommend any books about the history of the mafia?
I've always been fascinated by the mafia and organized crime in general and I really want to read some biographies but first I'd really like to read about the history of it first.
The only books I can find tell about the start of the mafia in sicily and then seperate books which tell about the coming to America of the mafia. I'd like something that can tell me the start of the mafia and the coming to America of it in one book.
While we're at it, you can recommend some biographies or other books for me to read after I've read the history one, if you want.

If humans evolved from monkey's/apes, why are they still here?
That is a common misconception, Humans *did not* evolve from apes. Apes share the most genetic code with us, which means that they also evolved from the same thing we did, and turned out to be the most similar to us. Whatever we evolved from is no longer around, it evolved into different kinds of apes and us, and by the very nature of evolution, those that didn't evolve died.

Why is it called the People's Republic Of China when China's not a republic?
It is a republic. China does have elections(everyone is required to vote, actually), but there is only one party to vote for. Compare to the US, where there are two parties to vote for, both virtually identical.

when you are in court and they want you to swear on the bible, what if youre atheist or agnostic? or another religion
My understanding is that they only do that on TV. In real court they don't use a bible or say "so help you god" anymore.

every time I try to veiw this sheet music (in ZIP file) it says Invalid Menu Handle. I know it means that I need to update my windows thing and then I found another way and it's like when you go to the control panel and change the file from zip to a pdf, but then I tried to open it in pdf and it said it wouldn't open cause the file was corrupted. and I don't know how to run my windows updater so I don't know what to do?! help! thanks :)
You've asked this already:
http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=512136
Did you try what I suggested? That will probably fix it. Changing the file extension from zip to pdf does nothing. Windows update will probably not fix it, but you can update by going to start, then run; type this:
wupdmgr
and press enter. When you're given an option, you want "express update".

In laymen's terms can somebody tell me what HTTP/1.1 New Session Failed means? I'm getting it every time I go to a certain web site and then it's back to normal and then displays this again. It's driving me and the site owner nuts.
How do you fix it as I heard it had nothing to do with the page but something to do with the server on our end not the site's. Any info is much appreciated. Beleive me I Googled this and cannot understand what in the hell it means.
It's the server's fault, there's nothing you can do. IIS servers generate that error when they have too much load. It might be caused by a DoS attack(against the server, not you), but it's probably because too many people are using it at once.
If the site owner runs their own server, they need to get a better one(preferably with Apache instead of IIS). If they buy shared hosting, they need to get a host that doesn't overload their servers. They don't need to get more bandwidth or storage, it's purely a lack of RAM and CPU resources that causes this.
You can tell the site owner to contact me for more info.

When putting the PC on it opens automatically with “My Computer”. Under the control panel menu the start button is not responding. I have be adviced to retrive the desktop by ctrl+alt+delete
file
new task
explorer.exe
But every time I have to switch it on I have to follow the procedure time and again.
How can I permanatly restore the desktop back in action.
Follow my guide on application-based problems:

If that doesn't work, you can try making a new user account.

Hey- awhile back- I noticed that you allowed people to be able to use your layout. I was wondering why you no longer have the link to let people do this- because I actually really like your layout.
Thanks, I wish I could let you use it.
DangerNerd(the site administrator) decided that letting other people use personal layouts was dangerous, so he disabled it. There's nothing I can do about it. You can ask him to hurry up with making my layout global by emailing him here:

Ok everytime i go on my computer, the date and time changes and then i change it back. This has been the routine every day THIS MONTH and I am getting very annoyed at fixing it.
Is my computer broken? Is there any way to fix it?
Go to start, then run. Type this and press enter:
timedate.cpl
Go to the "time zone" tab and make sure you're in the correct one. If you are, go to the "internet time" tab and UNcheck "automatically synchronize with an internet time server". This will probably fix it.

hi. how much damage can a box of cigarettes do to your body? just a box? to be more specific, 10 sovereign. if i were to smoke them and never smoke another cigarette, how much damage? thanks
A single pack would do almost no damage to your body. You might experience temporary loss of breath for a few hours, but that's all. You could smoke a pack a month and not notice any real effects, but it's addictive and at that level it might put you at slightly higher risk of lung cancer.

How do you put up a direct Youtube link on a site like Liberty Forum?
Minimum system requirements?
Tatarewicz Canada
You can't, the site needs to have HTML enabled, and most forums don't.

me and my mom are about to get a new computer, and my friend told me that everyone computer made by dell automaticlly comes with windows movie maker. i wuld really like to have that feature without downloading it. so so all dell computer no matter what version or kind come with the movie maker?
Dell is not an operating system, it is a manufacturer. If you tell a technical person that you "use a dell", they will laugh at you. Dell installs your choice of Windows XP, Windows Vista, DOS, Ubuntu Linux, or nothing. 2 out of 5 of them come with Windows Movie Maker. So, to quote Multivac, "INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER".

Hey Theymos!
I have a website through freewebs.com [http://www.freewebs.com/cuxmibecknow7/index.htm]. Its a homework help site and I want it to be like here- where you can submit a question and everyone has the ability to answer it. My first question is- how can I do this?
I also want my website to be able to have people log in and access an account through my website. Is this possible? And if so- how can I do this?
Thank you! And by the way- I read the link from your forum about HTML- it was very useful.
**Edited August 20, 2008, since CuxMiBeckNow7 linked here.**
Log-ins, forums, and message posting all require server-side scripting, typically PHP and MySQL. You'll also need a host that supports PHP and MySQL. Very few free hosts do; freewebs and geocities don't. PHP is more complex than HTML. It will take much longer to create.
You should, at a minimum, know HTML before starting to learn PHP:
http://w3schools.com/html/default.asp
It will also help a lot to know Javascript, since it is similar to PHP:
http://w3schools.com/js/default.asp
You can then use these tutorials to learn the basics of PHP and MySQL:
http://www.tizag.com/phpT/
http://www.tizag.com/mysqlTutorial/
This free and ad-free host supports PHP and MySQL:
http://byethost.com/
It's be perfect for learning. If your site gets too popular, though, you'll need to move to something else.
I also recommend you complete these tutorials, which will help you with good web design:
http://w3schools.com/css/default.asp
http://www.csslicingguide.com/
And consider reading the HTML specification:
http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/
If you don't want to go through all of that work, there are a number of pre-made PHP scripts available. Byethost (linked above) offers an extensive library of such scripts.

i think i need to say where that definition came from. do you have the exact title of the dictionary you found it in? thanks so much!
It's from the Online Plain Text English Dictionary, which is based on The Project Gutenberg Etext of Webster's Unabridged Dictionary, which is based on the 1913 US Webster's Unabridged Dictionary. You can cite it like this:
Porter, Noah. "History." Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary. 1913 ed. 1913. Retrieved 2 September 2007 .
You need to underline the words "Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary" and remove the space between http: and // in the citation.
The definition of "history" hasn't changed, so don't worry about the dictionary being 94 years old.

hey i was wondering if there was a way to block websites on mozilla firefox. if so how can i do this?
Go to start, then run. Type:
notepad "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"
Notepad will open. At the *very bottom, on a new line* of the file that is shown type the website you want to block on the right, and 127.0.0.1 on the left. So if you want to block google, type this:
127.0.0.1 google.com
This will prevent every program on the computer from accessing the site. Don't include http: or www. before the domain you want to block, and make sure you *save* the notepad file when you're done. Then, for this to start working, go to start>run and type:
ipconfig /flushdns
It will now block the sites.
Note that changing the HOSTS file could make your internet stop working, if you make an entry like:
127.0.0.1 com
since everything with a .com won't work anymore. Also, if you remove the:
127.0.0.1 localhost
entry that is there when you open it, some applications might not work.
If the person you're trying to block uses a limited user account, they won't be able to access the HOSTS file. Even if they have an administrator account, most people don't know anything about the HOSTS file.
If you don't like the HOSTS file method, you can use Best Free Keylogger to block websites:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bfk/
BFK is almost completely undetectable, and it's hard to disable.
