about

I've been away for a while due to a serious illness and subsequent health issues.

Favourite quotes of the moment:

The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.

We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!

As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.

May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.

I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!

I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.

I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!

I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.

If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.

I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

advice

Do vegetarians drink milk?
eat eggs?
and eat fish or shrimp?

There are different categories of vegetarianism.

Lacto-ovo veggies eat eggs and drink milk.

Lacto veggies don't eat eggs.

Vegans don't consume anything that came from an animal.

Pesco veggies eat seafood.

Fruitarians will only raw fruit and seeds, nothing cooked.

Most vegetarians will not wear animal skins.

For the last couple days my back has been hurting really bad. It's in between my shoulder blades and doesnt really hurt until night. Like right now. I have tried stretching it but it isnt changing. I cant do anything to make it feel better and its really bugging me! Please Help!!! I will rate all your helpful advice! :D

Please don't get anyone inexperienced to 'pop your back'. They could do more damage, and possibly permanent, to it. You need to get checked out by a doctor or a chiropractor if it's that bad.

In the meantime try an ice pack on the affected area for 20 minutes at a time every two hours and pain killers. Don't put the ice pack directly onto your skin though. If it only hurts when you go to bed, (you didn't specify when at night it hurts), it could be your mattress. If it's still hurting in a few days, make an appointment and get it sorted out professionally.

This is really embarrasing, but does anyone have any products that work for people with clammy hands (and sweaty armpits)?? or just strategies, clothes to wear/avoid, ect.

As well as the advice given below this, where possible, avoid synthetic materials, wear fabrics like cotton as they allow your skin to breathe and helps to minimise sweat build up.

You could also try athletes foot powder under your arms and on your hands, sounds strange but it can help. If the sweating is a big problem, you may need to see your doctor. However, at your age it is likely to just be overactive glands from the sudden rush of hormones and should settle down in a couple of years.

Which side is the side you typically part your hair? (When doing a side part -- like left or right is all I need to know!)

We all have natural partings, it really doesn't matter which side it is. If you brush your hair back from the front it should fall naturally into a parting. However, it can get a little confusing if you have a double crown, as you could have two places where your hair would naturally part. All you can do is try it and see what's right for you. You are likely to have more problems controlling your hair if you try to part it in a way it doesn't want to go.

Alright, my class and I are doing this group project about 'First Intermediate, 7-11th Dynasties, Achievements and Pyramids' project.

It's due this Friday but I can't find no good sites having to do with Achievements and Pyramids.

My teacher said if one person doesn't have this done by Friday, the whole group would get a 0. And I don't want to be the reason.

So does anyone know where I can get GOOD sites for (Ancient) Egypt, 8, 9, 10, and 11th Dynasties on Pyramids and Achievements?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Try these.

im doin a project on pyramids and do you guys know any treasures that are in a pyramid and what are they
-i know theres jewlery but is the jewlery in a chest or just on the ground
-i need 3 treasure thingys so help me think of any treasures they put in the pyramid

The Egyptians made statues and plates of gold and encrusted them with precious stones. There were also the sarcophoguses, rather like luxurious coffins, that were made of gold and beautifully decorated.
They also left amulets to guard the deceased on their journey to the next world. These were also fabulous treasures in rich metals.

I've given you a link to the Global Egyptian Museum if you need more information.

The first piece of music that came to mind was Offenbachs Orpheus in the Underworld, more familiarly known as The CanCan. It has been used by circuses and music halls the world over. In case you don't know it I've included a link to it.

hey hows it going? I recently moved into an apartment with a buddy of mine from work. he has a one year old male cat by the name of domino. he and his cat have been living alone for about three years now and he says to the best of his knowledge his cat has never been around any animals since he has had him. now I also have a male cat who is around the same age named sweety boy who is one of the most friendliest cats you will ever meet. now here is the problem, me and my friend have been trying to think of a way to introduce the two cats to each other and get them used to being around each other. we have only put them together once but when we did both cats viciously attacked each other and became really agitated for quite sometime afterwards. we have kept them separated since the incident and they have both been acting really weird, his cat is always hanging out next to the door to my room where my cat is staying, and my cat wont go anywhere but my bathroom or under my bed, I think it is because they both know that there is another cat in the house and they can smell each other. my question is what is the best way to get them used to each other? and is there a way to get them used to each other without either one of them getting hurt?

It's always difficult introducing another cat to the home of an established pet, particularly if they are the same sex and roughly the same age.

Have they both been neutured? If not, it may be a good idea to have this done as it will not only calm them down bit will avoid certain health issues in later life. The first cat will hang around as he can smell yours and is keeping an eye out to see why there is an invader on his territory. Your cat has been placed in a potentially dangerous position, (according to him) and is taking shelter until he can figure a way out of it.

This is likely to be a long process so you need to be prepared to have patience with them.

They need to stay separated for the time being as forced interaction could lead to some serious problems. When your cat is feeling more settled in your room, you start off by stroking the other cat with a soft piece of material and then stroking it on your cat, then vice versa. This will get them used to scent of each other without meeting. As they groom themselves they will 'taste' the other one's scent as it mingles with their own. They are still likely to be upset but should calm down after a few days of doing this repeatedly.

Next, you could feed them on each side of a connecting door. Start off with the bowls some distance away and over several days, gradually move them closer to the door. They should start to accept each other's scent and associate it with the very enjoyable occupation of eating. Eventually, you could prop the door open enough for them to see each other, (but not wide enough for them to get through), as they are eating. The first time you do this, it may be worth feeding them a special treat so that they are more interested in the food than each other.

When they seem happy with this, try switching the cats to the other's room. You have your flatmates cat in your room for a night. If they are ok with this and settle with each other's bedding, you're ready for the next step.

When you are happy they are ok with this, you can let them see and smell each other without being close enough to feel threatened. Whether this is in your respective arms or through a gate is your choice. However, they both need to feel safe at this time.

If they then accept this and you're sure they're happier with each other, you could let them meet up on neutral territory where you can intervene if things look like getting nasty. Maybe a bathroom or another room that the original cat does not regard as 'his'? Not your room though as it will smell of your cat and make the first one feel anxious. Don't worry if they have a small disagreement, they need to set their own boundaries and learn each others signals. If they decide to have a full-on fight, don't try to pick them up, you're likely to get damaged. Have a water squirter to hand and spray them. It doesn't hurt, they probably won't realise it came from you and may even associate it with fighting! Give them some time to calm down before trying again. Let them have their own bolt holes to go to.

If all this does not work and they are going to continue to fight, sadly you may need to look at rehoming one of them. They are both young and like all young males, are likely to feel they have something to prove. Guarding their territory and facing up to the 'enemy' is a classic trait of the young. If they were both several years, they probably wouldn't be so bothered about each other.

If this does work and they do decide to tolerate each other, ensure they have a litter tray each and they are kept clean. You also need to make sure that whichever one is going to be the dominant cat is not able to ambush the other one when they are in the litter tray. This is when cats are at their most vulnerable as they can't run away when they are toileting. They will also need separate feeding and water bowls, with you keeping an eye on them, to start with to check that the dominant one does not take the food of the other.

you could also look at having several toys as a distraction for them and a variety of sleeping places at different heights. They need opportunities to be able to escape from each other when they want to.

Lastly, keep in mind that cats are very territorial and this process could take weeks or even months. Even when you think they are settling in together, it may not wise to give them free range for several months when there is no one at home. Put them back in your rooms until one or both of you will be there to keep an eye on them.

You will need to put a lot of time and patience into this but if it works it will be worth it. You'll have a happy home with two cats that get on with each other.

I'm getting a dog. But my brother is allergic and my house is small. Does a Yorkie shed alot, does it need alot of running? I'd be able to make sure it gets excerise, and alot if it needs it. help?

Yorkies, like nearly every dog, needs exercise at least twice a day.

They don't have an undercoat so shed less than a lot of dogs. There are some breeds of dog that little or no hair. I've included a website with pictures for you to look at. I've also included a website of light shedders with pictures and information about each breed. Good luck with your dog.

okay its all runny && has a fishy smell .
how do i get rid of it ?

It's possible you have Bacterial Vaginosis. If this is the case, you need to see you doctor for antibiotics to clear it up. It's usually caused by an inbalance of good to bad bacteria in that area and has a 'fishy' smell. It's not sexually transmitted and is easily cured.

I've given you a web link with more information so that you can check all the symptoms.

Who sings the song, that goes like:

thanks in advance.

Lesley Gore sang the original in 1963. It was covered in 1981 by Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin.

I am 26 and my husband is 28years old. I want to have a baby. My husband and I are trying since five months still I am not becoming pregnant. Now it is two months still dint get my periods. I did a test. It shows negative. I am very disappointed. So what can we do?

It can take up to a year to conceive, if after this time nothing has happened you should see your doctor. They can give you advice, check you both to ensure you are able to have children and if necessary prescribe courses of treatment. They will also be able to take you through all the other options should this fail.

More and more couples these days are having problems conceiving so you're not alone. Make sure you have a healthy, balanced diet, don't smoke or drink alcohol, take folic acid tablets, get enough sleep and try not to stress about this.

I'm not sure if you meant you have not had your period for two months or if you have. If you haven't, you need to see your doctor sooner, as there may be a medical reason for your problem. It could be as simple as a hormone inbalance that just needs medication to put right but it does need to be checked out.

Try not to get too worried at this stage as stress can affect your chances of conceiving. Sometimes it just takes a long time and then it happens when you don't think it's going to. You're both young enough to give it this time and children are worth that wait, so good luck.

I've seen this cat around my yard. I can garentee that it's not owned because I live in a small neighborhood, and everyone in it has atleast 2 dogs. The cat lives in a trash pile basicly that me and my family has colected over the year, and it's gotten bigger. Well I want to save this cat before winter comes, it will freze to death! My dogs, one I got was from a family that was broken up and the little dog had no where to go and my family took her in and we now call her Keylii. The other one is a lot bigger then Keylii who is a Tea-cup Pamerian, and his names Bear. Well they've bothc ome from familys that has had cats in the house so my dogs will get along with the cat, but how am I going to get it to come to me? I wana feed it, it's been getting into out garbadge and that can't be filling, But ive never had a cat before. I was thinking about louring it out by like canned tuna, I also have babyfood.. if cats eat that and dog food for little dogs if cats eat that too. But i need to think of the good of the animal. I dont wanna call Animal Services so don't give me that option because what if they put it down??? Then there'd be no point in saving it.. but what if it has a deseice and it bites me? I know im up-dated in my shots so Im not worried about that but if it bites me, and my Mom finds out she wont let if around the baby. I wanna save this cat. I know its homeless and letting it live where it is isnt an option. Neither is calling animal services. Im willing to take the chance of being biten out scratched, I just need some help on how to get the cat out of the pile of nothing.. please anyting is helpful and im sorry for giving u resrtictions but im not going to happy knowing its out there, or that its in the hands of other people who might hurt it.
Anything will be helpful tho.

As the others have said, time and patience is what is needed here. Tinned tuna fish is fine occasionally, cat food is better. Don't give a cat dog or baby food as they have the wrong nutrients. Also, it's best not to give it chicken bones particularly cooked ones as they can splinter easily and get lodged in the cat's throat.

Put the food down and just walk away for the first few days. Try to do this at the same time every day and you'll find she'll start to look out for you. When she becomes used to you appearing with the food and then leaving, put the food down and walk a few paces away so that she doesn't feel threatened by you but gets used to you being there. Over time you'll find that you can get closer to her. Eventually she should just come out when she sees you and eat the food right by you.

When you've got this far, and it could be a slow process as you need to go at the cats rate, talk to her and then try to very gently stroke her. She's likely to back off the first couple of times but should come back quite quickly. Once she has accepted contact from you you can start looking at getting her inside. If you have a cat basket, place some food inside and wait for her to go in to it, then close the door behind her. She will need to be checked out by a vet as soon as possible to ensure she is healthy and the vet should also be able to give you advice on care and introducing her to your dogs.

Remember that although you dogs may used to cats, she will quite possibly object to them initially. Any contact between them needs to be handled very carefully or you will have some very unhappy animals on your hands.

As long as you approach this situation with care and patience, there should be little chance of her biting or scratching you. This is only likely to happen if you try to rush her.

I think it's great that you want to help this cat, if there were more people like you around there wouldn't be any strays. Just remember to take your time and don't rush her and you'll be fine.

does anyone know why people cant fall asleep if they have a concusion?

It was always thought that there was the possiblity that if someone went to sleep following a concussion they may fall into a coma.

Following recent research into this, it looks as though this may not be the case after all. However, anyone losing consciousness after a blow to the head should still seek medical attention immediately and follow the advice given by the doctor.

Hi.im a 14 m and everytime i go to the bathroom (#2) it hurts bad.like for some reason every time i need to go it wont fit out it.i kinda need to push hard and it stretches and it actually bleeds sometimes.I was just wondering how to prevent this and if its normal???
thanks =/

It sounds as though you may have constipation. If this is the case, you need to drink lots of water, eat plenty of fruit and veg, include fibre like wholegrains and seeds and avoid 'junk' food.

There are also products that you can try from a pharmacy or health shop but it's best to look at your diet first. Taking something to help you is not going to be as effective long term as amending dietary issues.

Other causes of constipation can be stress, holding it in when you should go, lack of exercise, medication, depression and health problems. If your diet is fine and you exercise often, you should see your doctor as soon as you can. If you have an unbalanced diet or don't exercise, try changing your diet/life style for a couple of weeks and see if this makes a difference. If it doesn't, again, you need to see your doctor. If anyone has any health concerns it is always best to get checked out by a doctor.

I need something to help a stinky feet problem i developed this year. I accidently got my shoes wet, then it smelled, I was busy and had no time to take it off and when i did my feet stunk really bad, my feet and shoes just always stink now.

Any tips?

What can i use to wash my shoes with to get rid of that smell?

Many poeple got that problem and i was so glad i wasn't one of them but now..=/ its too embarrassing to take off ym shoes anywhere at all, even for one minute!

You could try bicarbonate of soda in your shoes as this absorbs smells. Leave a good dusting of it in them for at least 24 hours and then wash them.

Try athlete's foot powder on your feet. It's very effective at deoderising them. If there is a chance you have a fungal infection causing the smell, (which is likely if it developed after the wet shoes incident), it should get rid of that as well.

I have absolutely horrid allergies. Everytime the seasons change I'm out of commission for a few days, or else struggling to make it through the day.

I'm currently using Flonase, twice a day like you're supposed to. It works for mild things, like year-long triggers (cats, dogs, oak, etc) but doesn't do much when the pollen count is really high, like now.

Problem is, I can't go on anything else. I tried to take Zyrtec a few years back and had a not so fun allergic reaction in the form of puking my guts out constantly (Yeah, not fun) so I refuse to go on anything else of the sort.

So I was hoping someone can help me out! Any natural remedies, foods, or even herbal supplements? Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance, and I will rate! =]

If possible try to find a personally recommended acupuncturist as they can stop your body from over reacting to the allergens. Other things you can try if you don't like needles is reflexology, chinese herbs, a naturopath and a dietician. All of them need to be recommended, never go to someone you've found in a book unless they are very well known with an excellent track record.

Any of these people should be able to help you. You will probably have a consultation first to find out the exact details of your problem followed by treatment. I like reflexology, it's very relaxing as well being effective. The only problem is that none of these options are cheap. However, the advantage is, you're not filling your body with chemicals which appear to be giving you adverse reactions.

If finance is an issue, go to your local health food shop and talk to them. They should be able to recommend products that could help.
